[NFP] Kublai Khan Discussion Thread

I will continue my theory:

Kublai Khan also receives +0.3 science and culture per turn for each unit killed.

He has 5.4 sciences and 2.4 cultures per turn
Suppose Ulaanbaatar has grown to 2 citizens, then:
5 (citizens) * 0.5 (science per each citizen) + 2 (geothermal fissure) + 3 (killed barb) * 0.3 = 5.4
5 (citizens) * 0.3 (cultures per each citizen) + 3 (killedbarb) * 0.3 = 2.4
Perhaps a similar modifier works the same for gold.

Would that not be busted? You invade some backwater nobody, beat him up, run away with the science game.

Actually, it would be busted. All the more reason to believe it's an NFP ability.

what if Kublai had a unique Governor like Suleman?
The devs confirmed that he can still lead China if you don't have any expansion. So that means no governor or loyalty mechanics.

Or maybe... He has different abilities depending on the Expansion you're using. ;)

In game. Is China capitol city under Kublai Khan called Beijing or Khanbaliq and not Xi An?
We don't know yet.
So far we've only seen his Mongolian capital Xanadu. It's possible that could be his capital for both civs.

Does Xi'an even make sense as Kublai's Capital? Wasn't the Tang Dynasty the last time it was a capital city? Surely it'd be either Shangdu/Xanadu or Beijing for Kublai?

Xi'an doesn't even make sense as Qin's capital, which was actually Xianyang, across the Wei River from Xi'an.

I guess China Kublai's capital will be Khanbaliq/Dayidu Qota, the city that he built as the "Chinese capital" which later developed into modern Beijing.

I think Kublai's capital will just be Beijing? Otherwise, he'll be able to rule from Khanbaliq/Dadu, while Beijing is still foundable. That would be like the Ottomans having "Konstantiyye" in their city list while their capital remains Istanbul.

I mean, Aleppo is on Arabia's city list twice, and there are several other cases of that as well so Kublai ruling from Khanbaliq and then founding Beijing seems like Civ as usual. :p

ugh do NOT remind me. I don't have OCD, but there are times that make me wonder whether I do. Haleppogate is one of them.

Rename them a second time. Problem solved.

Really? I'll have to try that next time I feel the need to correct Firaxis' naming problems.

Yeah, it requires you do some trick or something (can you tell i haven't played in months? i wonder), I believe it's deleting every letter in the box EXCEPT for the first one, then retyping them.

Something silly like that, but it works.

After Babylon, nothing will probably surprise me.
Mongol has no districts. Even campus to +4 from geothermal fissures! Although it’s time to 28 turn.
Maybe Kublai Khan from Mongolia can't build specialty districts and this is a penalty for bonuses from killing units?
And thus he is forced to conquer at least one neighbor. Like the real Kublai Khan. And build districts in captured cities. Or just buildings in existing. Some eureka and inspiration require specialty districts and the bonus from trading posts doesn't seem so weak anymore.

And Kublai Khan from China may have a different ability. Besides eureka and inspiration from trading posts.

Sounds crazy, but this is NFP, baby! :smoke:

What do you mean all caps? My renaming works just fine. Quite the opposite, original names are all caps to me, though that is only visible in tooltips.

Interesting.
They've never done different abilities for the same leader before until now with the different personas. I guess it could be possible that Mongolia Kublai could have a different ability than China Kublai.
