Legacy of Civilization

EQandCivfanatic: I completely forgot that I needed to help my brother move to a different appartment over the weekend. I didn't get back till late last night, which is why the update did no occur. I will however begin the update in approximately 11 hours, when I get home from work, so those who may still be missing orders get them in. Also, for you who are awaiting a response by Private Message, I assure you, I will reply as soon as possible.

Did I miss something? :)

yup sorry should have made that a bit clearer.

How did he tell you to post it?

psychic link... nah he told me over aim while he was at work i think

Aye, at work I only have access to AIM Express.

Starting work on the update now. Will still accept any outstanding orders.

Because of a gross misunderstanding of the religion and culture on my behalf of Surmum, I'm revising the war portion of the previous update. This has not changed the outcome of events, but certainly the process in which they occurred. For those who see this, do not think I'll do it for you, as this is the first time I've EVER done this in all the time I've moderated. I just want to make that clear.

Also, several sets of notable orders remain missing. Hoping that ya'll make an appearance.

Sorry but I won't be able to send any orders until after school is over. My free time is all used up as I have finals pretty much every day from now until the 26th. If Ruhin still persists I will gladly take back over them.

I think/hope i sent orders.. if not, again try an expand to get those resources, and get a lot more people in the fields working so big food surplus

Well, I've been hijacked from working on this update far too many times this week, and I apologize for the delay in things. Starting out with summer courses has proved to give me more work than I initially anticipated, and this week has one of adjustment. No worries though, progress has proceeded well upon the update, and it is nearly complete.

I cannot wait. This NES is whats hooking me back into NESing :D

Ishanna pondered as she waited in the room by the queen's bed.

After the death of the old king of Noptro, his son by his first wife had inherited the throne, while the aging queen-goddess remained in power in her own temple.
The cohabitation between the secular king and the sacred queen had not been an easy one. The king was the victor of a war he had fought in as a prince, while the queen was the goddess. Both had enormous support among the Eannumites, and much less among the other people. Kurabites resented the new kingship, and the heir of the godhood, Unu'enlil, had been imprisoned by the queen and detained in his own temple, acting as a puppet for the queen. She probably regretted her decision, as the king wasn't a man easily manipulated, but who ever knew what Nan'eballa thought? She had had the final voice in all religious matters, but more practical decisions had escaped her.

The situation had remained stable if tense for a few years, but today the queen was dying, and all the priestesses were acting like some strange spirits had turned them mad.
Had the old succession rules been followed, Nin'elanna should have become the new Nan. But she had been the wife of the previous Unu, and the mother of the new one, and the new king had clearly stated that she was not to be the goddess's new vessel.
Priests from Noptro had all agreed about that. Despite the appearances, they said, Nin'elanna was too old to become the new goddess.
Therefore, a new vessel for the goddess was to be designated. Normally, priests and priestesses would study the succession rules and find out who was to be the new queen from the nobles. But times changed, and the rules of Surmum were no more. Both the king and the priesthood agreed that the people would follow the new goddess appointed by the clergy, they just had to find who was the best candidate.

Nin'shari was the next in line according to the old laws, but she lacked charisma and her beauty didn't fit the goddess.
Nin'lullu was the sister of the king, and a popular princess, with lots of support from her brother party and Noptro.
Then there was Nin'Illa. She was certainly the most handsome, a young priestess daughter of a Noptro noblewoman and a Ludallab priest. She could cement the nation more than any other according to her supporters.
And then there was Ishanna herself. Nin'ishanna. Daughter of the old queen. Godhood wasn't passed directly from mother to daughter, it was more complex than that. The new Nan' was often the daughter of the old Unu', but it depended on the dates of birth and death of the previous gods, and whether Unu or Nan died first. It was far too complex. Noptro kings had a simple system: The new king was the old king's son. Ishanna could push the godhood to be inherited this way too. She might even be able to convince the king that it was in his interest to have queenship and kingship respect the same rules. If only she received her messenger's answer...

In her death-bed, the old queen stirred, and her daughter shivered at her side.
"Not now, mother. Please. I'm not yet ready..."

I have reflected upon things over the weekend and I believe that real life has taken on new import for me. Due to this, I'll be mostly leaving NESing. The only exception will be the continuation of ABNW 3 updates once in a blue moon for whenever I need an NESing fix. I will probably return one day, as I still have several ideas which need to see the light of day.
