Legendary Earth Mod (LEM)

I noticed there are no map changes mentioned in the updates. Will the map stay as is? (Because it could use some improvement - not referring to resources.)

I like the map overall but a few things. Germany and Paris starting on the coast?:rolleyes:Germany needs to be on the river a couple squares SE of where it's currently located. Same with the French, and this could help crowding with England. This could be a bit picky, but if we want a little realism....

Is it possible to get a version with Raging Barbarians and No Ruins? Takes out early-game randomness, and makes Ottomans/Songhai/German UAs more viable.

EDIT: Doh, nevermind. Found the SDK and figured out how to do this. Great job on the map, I like the resource allocation!

Great map man, I love the realism. Just got done playing a game as England, I settled a couple of cities in western africa and south africa as well as indonesia in the beginning of the game and kept up good relations with songhai so they wouldn't steamroll me. Siam, Greece, and China ended up being the biggest three empires. I think California could do with some improvement, seems like there's too many mountains and not enough central valley. Unfortunately, my computer really feels the strain of the huge AI armies around turns 100-200 and I ended up with 2-3 minute turn times. :( Great mod though, after playing it I just couldn't bring myself back to play the default world map that came with the game, it's such a mess.

Excellent Mod .. Just wondered why Irelands split in two which just looks weird but otherwise excellent.. Just had a fantatsic 6 hour session as England but then the darn thing wouldnt save(Is this a problem with mods).. I did wonder if it would help/or be another option if Dublin was added to Ireland..
EDIT.. Sorted..its just odd how the save system doesn't seem to show your saves in the save screen initially..

Feedback.. There does seem to be a point as you advance where everyone simply declares war..Probably the game bug

Other than that you rtweaks seem very balanced, I actually found the AI on Prince and Epic to be quite good once I had passed that "LEts all declare war stage".. Had a lot of fun with Amsterdam and Oslo

One problem is that most European capitals aren't coastal (I actually can't think of any that are) but it's kind of important to have coastal cities, especially if you want to colonize the old world. So if you are, say, France, there isn't really room for Antwerp or Le Havre, so you either have to skip Madrid and settle Barcelona (or something) or conquer e.g. for a seaport, which is a little silly considering that coastline is not exactly something Europe lacks, generally.

Sorry, I've been away from my computer and busy this past weekend.

Paris and Berlin are coastal because I noticed that the AI would rarely choose to build their second city on the coast, and usually Germany would never gain a coastal city (if France got a third city it would usually be coastal). Without either civ having any ability to exert naval power, Britain can pretty much trounce either one without meeting any naval resistance. As such, this is a point where gameplay has to be balanced with realism.

With the impending release of Mongolia (10/25) I will be releasing another version of the map that will include them as a playable civilization and remove Karakorum as a city-state. At the moment, I am unsure if I will be supporting two separate versions of the map or if LEM will have Mongolia in it de facto (after all, it is free for Civfanatics users :)).

Hello everyone, I just started playing Civilization V and I've recently found this awesome map. I was kind of disappointed by original Earth map, I just didn't have the feeling I was playing Earth with all the scattered civs and city states.

I've chosen France on King and I love the pressure from others Civilization you get from the start. My main social policy is Liberty as I decided to grab as much of Europe as I can early on. With early Settlers I've secured area of would be Switzerland, rewarded by not so friendly notes from Germany, Romans and Greeks.

About the time I've found and befriended Oslo with money from Wine sold to those bohemian Greeks, my engineers finished Stonehenge boosting my culture even more. Take that England!

My cities began to flourish with excess of food and I decided to expand even more, this time in Spain and because I had a feeling that Romans have similar intentions I rushed settlers from Paris and captured Spain about 3 turns before Caesar got there. To my surprise no one was complaining this time.

Now when I'm finally happy with number of my cities, I'm starting to prepare for war. Horseman and Archers should be sufficient to deal with Germany and/or Romans. After this quick episode I am planning on colonizing New World as first, hopefully England won't be trouble.

To sum up, thanks for awesome map!

I really enjoy playing this map atm, so thanks for making it. I havent read the whole topic, so it is likely that these suggestions were already made, but here are my 2 cents anyways:

The island north of ireland, i guess is supposed to be iceland, looks wired. Should be further north-west.

As the map is so huge, ocean travel really takes a loooong time. I like the way this is solved in civ4:RFC, where movement points on ocean fields are 1/2.

With Shiggs Huge earth map France usually founds its 2nd city on the coast (don´t know about Germany). Anyway, shouldn´t it be up to the AI if they want coastal cities founded or a navy? The problem seems to be more that the AI is just terrible at naval warfare - that is England and Japan never become naval powers in the first place nor found any overseas empire to speak of.

Cool!

Excellent work....I really enjoyed my game. The anticipation of finding the new world was present along with the natives (barbs) curiously wandering near the shore to gawk at the sight of our ships. Well Done!...Now if we could just add tobbacco as a luxury.....:)

Looks great! :)

I have'nt played it yet, just saw it in the worldbuilder, and I'm wondering why turkey is placed without connection to Europe. I also agree with Platin:

The island north of ireland, i guess is supposed to be iceland, looks wired. Should be further north-west.

Anyway, nice map :D
Must have taken sooo long to make!

Yes, for the bazillionith time, that island that "splits Ireland in half" is actually Iceland, and it's there so that AI Elizabeth will either settle it or work the tiles. The next version might move it to a more accurate position and have it include Reykjavik as a city-state.

As to the other question that has been answered several times as well, the Mediterranean and Black Sea are connected by a coastal tile so that civs like Russia, Persia or the Ottomans can have naval influence in the Mediterranean.

If the Ottoman Empire follows real life they don't need the Bosporus to be a Sea tile

Nor Persia

Russia has historically accessed the rest of the world via the Baltic not Bosporus

Gameplay trumps realism in this case; the AI will not found an empire that follows history. As such, Russia will not necessarily have a city on the Baltic while Persia and the Ottomans may expand eastward instead of westward. In addition, with embarkation having the Bosporous as a sea tile has made for some interesting wars between Greece and nations in the Middle East.

All of my playtesting with LEM has shown that this is a positive feature and I have no intention of removing it.

I for one love this map! I would like to see Babylon and Mongolia added, but beyond this, I have no issue with it. Russia and the River Warlords do seem to build up right now, but this could only be stopped with the Vikings, Mongols, Zulus, Ethiopians, and Carthage being added in as real civs.

So, it's not really the fault of the map, just the fault of the lack of real civs at the moment.

Well the hope is that Mongolia will counteract Russian expansion eastward. I've added them to the map but I am yet to test it...I've been a little busy this week and I've been playing a few too many random maps instead.

I promise an update next week!

Sweet yeah, the only problem atm im finding is no one is colonising but ive only played one game... So ^_^

Thanks for this great map - way better than the default one!

I just installed it and am playing Nobunaga on marathon-emperor. It's currently around 1600 BC and I have 4 cities on the Japanese mainland and am expanding into China. One of my triremes made it to all the way to Spain and I got a good look at what the other civs have been up to.

It's still early but the AI scores are very even and the starts seemed well balanced. No sign of Russia yet and China happened to expand west, but they are no doubt headed towards me. The mongols should fit right in...now if they'd just make the AI worth a sh*t this could be the perfect scenario :)
