Hi everyone,

Sorry if this has been asked before, i couldn't see anything about it.

Does leo's workshop upgrade units you aquire from other nations? I bribed a city with a diplomat, got the city and there was a warrier inside it, will this warrier get upgraded (he hasn't yet and a few turns have passed), will he wait til i get the next upgrade tech or would i do best to dispand him and build a new defender?

Cheers,

Rachel

Yes

He will wait until the next tech you discover, no matter what it is.

Upgrades from Leo's only happen when a tech is discovered and will only happen one 'step' at a time. A warrior will not go directly to a Riflemen, but will go through all the other 'upgrades' along the way, so it will take a couple tech advances to get a Warrior to upgrade to a Riflemen, not just one.

I understand that...but why? What's the point? Is it so Leo's Workshop does not get too powerful.?

It's because the lazy-ass civ2 programmers happened to do it that way. In other words, don't think too much of it. I doubt there's any ulterior motive behind it.

My guess is that they never even thought of anything beyond units getting upgraded to the next newest when the new tech was discovered. So, they came up with the following:
- check for availability of upgrade tech upon workshop construction/new discoveries
- upgrade unit accordingly

That's simple enough, and it results in the one-step-at-a-time upgrading for newly acquired old units.

Thank-you, I wondered if it was something like that, he got there eventually.

Its a big bonus when you are bribing other cities isn't it!

In the Strategy forum there's a thread called "Tips & Tricks". #54 lists all the upgrades that Leo's will perform.
