In light on the overall on pro-copernican sentiment's in national wonder vote2 ,and knowing that our glutton enemy's are trying to outsmart us i feel the need to urge for the organization of a spy mission on one of our beloted enemy's ,one that has masterted the fine art's of lenses craftmanship and basic sky staring. (astronomy)

Since we are et war anyway ,why not take advantage of the situation?

We have a diplo don't we ,the one that bribe'd Mpondo?

And we are still at war with the roman's ,near neighbour's of our land's and informed about the proper advance that is our goal.

If you bribe a city, the diplomat is erased.

But I have been saying for a while now to do espionage in Rome... noone listened. But good job on making a thread about it, now people will listen.

Let us train some men skilled in the art of literacy to convert Roman high-command and infiltrate their Library System!

When did you say that?

Anyway, Duck and Ohwell, good suggestion. I´m right behind you! Rome is nearby and tempting. :)

So what? We're approaching the stage of the game where it doesn't matter that much any more how badly the AI holds us in esteem. We are at peace with Mongolia, and whatever adamsj keeps burbling on about, we should not look to be at war with three of our closest neighbours all at once. Sure, once we wipe one of them out then we can take on another enemy, but we don't need to worry about our reputation really. The AI civs will all be either envious of our techs or angry at us quite soon, so we might as well not let that affect our tactics. Mongolia won't care if we bribe a Roman city anyway so we may as well.

I've been advocating going after the Romans for a while, now. I understand that bribing looks nice, but we DO have some crusaders hanging about and really could look into taking out a city with military as well.

This could save us some money to rush-build some things as well later on. I know that we could steal tech by itself, but that will then erase the diplomat. I'd rather use dips to get entire cities or bribe some units so we get more bang for the buck.

If we could get an extra pikeman or two to go along, we should have little trouble holding the city - and it'd be a nice foothold on their continent.

Anyone who runs around bragging about techs that they've discovered should feel our wrath. :goodjob:

I voted for taking on the English, but the fact that the Romans have that much needed Astronomy suddenly makes them a much more tempting target. Taking one city should not be that hard.

Take a city as Kev suggests, or send a diplo to steal Astronomy. I believe we are researching it currently, though. How soon will we have it? It may be that with caravans held in reserve we can research it and rush build it and still beat them all to it. It would be good to have Sun Tzu's started so we have a chance to finish it if we want it, or the AI will switch to it and beat us to it. If we will have the tech soon anyway it would make getting it from the Romans by either method less urgent.

Agreed with the Roman target portion, but keep in mind that the English have the Great Wall and could cause some problems because of it. Perhaps we can go after them once we have meatllurgy.

Leowind: The last I saw, it was over 20 turns to study techs, though it may have lowered since then.

Still, I would rather rush it now. If we wait, the other civs may be able to switch wonders to something else. While the Romans and Zulus may have feudalism and be able to switch to Sun Tzu's, they may not and would therefore have to abandon their projects altogether. Even so, we have several caravans in production and could likely get that one as well. I think it will be a while before we have to compete for Bach's, which is why I hope we put that one on hold until we complete the two immediate concerns.

If I recall correctly, if we steal or trade for Astronomy while studying it, we can then change the tech we are researching "on the fly" and not have to start from scratch (as is in Civ3).

Have we all decided on what we should study next should we get Astronomy in the next few turns?

Kev, my remembrance is as yours; we can switch "on the fly" to a new tech and not lose any beakers. You make a good point about trying to catch our rivals with nothing to switch to. I like that idea a lot :flamedevi
