Ave!

It's time for the next in the series of video let's plays.

This time I'm going to focus on expansion and warfare, aiming for either a domination or diplomatic victory. Along with some classical and early-medieval wars, I plan to conduct at least one intercontinental invasion, probably in late renaissance or industrial era.

I accepted some suggestions posted in this thread so I decided on the following settings:
- Rome (Augustus)
- Small continents
- Low sealevel
- +2 AIs (for a total of 7)
- 5 mio. years old world (less choke points to make combat for AIs easier)
- Emperor difficulty (up from King)
- City ruins off
- Quick combat on

The first segment of the first part will be uploaded in roughly 4 hours, around 5.30 CET (that would be around, umm, 23.30 EST?).

Hey Bibor just wanted to say thanks for all the help you have given me with Civ V. I watched your previous videos and it helped me alot.

The only suggestion i have is to maybe bump up the size to having a few more civs. I mainly play with more i find it more difficult and thought it would be good to see how you play on it. Thanks and look forward to seeing it

I like the idea. I was going to suggest a standard map just to add a few more civs and diversity. I concur with ArtOfBetrayal. Either way it should be a good game.

Naval invasion sounds pretty cool, haven't seen many people do that
it would be funny if you can take cities with 1 melee unit and rest with Navy

regardless, love your Hiawatha videos :goodjob:

i say you should get the achievement for alexander with this as well, Conquer the world by 350BC.

wait, nvm srry. u doing Augustus. i need more sleep.

I enjoyed your other videos, I wish I had enough time to watch all of them!!

I think you should switch it up to small continents / low sea level. Add more civs to make up for the additional land area. It would make for a good naval invasion game.

I have a couple of suggestions to make regarding how you run this. Feel free to discard them if you disagree. I would think it would be better if you only did maybe one video per day? It's very hard to keep up with hours of play every day; 15 minutes at a time is much easier for viewing, and would allow for more interaction from the audience.

Should be worth watching. I would be interested to see how you handle the happiness issue when expanding to a higher number of cities than you had in the last game. My preference would be for you to aim for a Domination victory. I think this would be more instructive than chasing a cheesy Dilplomatic win.

Agreed. That's exactly what I did.

Agree as well. However, I wanted to play this game "by myself" so people can see what kinds of overall or ad hoc decisions the player needs to do. Future games will be made in a 50-turn format and I'll have "saving up policies" enabled so people can discuss and vote about what to do next.

I'll probably (and unfortunatly) have to go with Piety to manage my happiness, since I plan to found and capture a lot of cities. I really wanted to go Rationalism this game, but my starting continent is resource-poor (except for all the iron :)), even sheep and cattle is scarce.

This is actually great, looking forward to hear how you plan happy cap management in your commentary.
Maybe even weight in the decision to raze vs puppet vs annex!
Strategic war planning should also be interesting (ie. which city to attack first, manipulating AI for war ally...etc)
as there are currently not much info on the strategy forum yet.
With 7 AI civs, RA planning are also very interesting.
So exciting!

Just watched part 1 and I'm in suspense! Loving this series by the way, thank you very
much for taking your time to do this. :)

Just watched the part I of II video, really love your commentary.
Can't wait to watch more

2nd segment of Part One is being uploaded as I type this. I already finished recording of the second part (I won't spoil anything, but lets just say things didn't go as expected).

Can't wait, I just finished watching the first one! If you didn't luck out with so much iron, what would you have done instead? I usually have a dearth of iron near my start and never really know how to proceed except teching to rifles or changing my strategy and going for a more peaceful victory.
