If you didn't luck out with so much iron, what would you have done instead? I usually have a dearth of iron near my start and never really know how to proceed except teching to rifles or changing my strategy and going for a more peaceful victory.

Rome usually starts on a spot with at least a small node (2 iron) nearby, although I did play games with Rome without iron. It sucks. There is more than one way to get iron though. It is quite common for city states (especially those in tundra or desert) to have iron, and you can always try to buy iron from a friendly AI. The cost is 200per 5 I think, which is reasonable. You could also trade away a luxury resource and the AI might even throw in something extra.
Forgive my ignorance... but what is the time difference between CET and GMT?
Hey B, I noticed in your first post, you said the world would be 5 billion years old, but on the video you set it at 4 billion years.
Oops, but he can't start over now. It is a good game so far.
I finished watching part II, very interesting so far. You make it look so easy, even in the face of what would otherwise appear to be reasonably difficult opposition. I guess some of what happened highlights the ineptitude of the AI (like virtually gifting you its three catapults).
