Kind of, yeah. But if I say something that is actually really foul in a language I don't speak, I am not swearing. If I consider "bull feathers" to be profanity, and go around saying it, I am swearing.

Cursing is like colloquial language. If you over use it, you sound like an idiot. If you use it in moderation for specific situations, it usually gets your point across.

Though in some cliques, you'd better not use it all.

So then we're back on the intent, right? It's not the actual word that is the curse, it's the intent. When they're saying "Mother fracker" in Battlestar Galactica, they might not be saying the real deal, but since their intent is the exact same, it is as bad as the real deal.

I swear often. The amount of swearing I do almost always picks up during football season. If your not gonna swear, then you can pretty much give up on being taken seriously, at least where I'm from.

Something is only offensive if it's meant as offensive. If someone told me to F off, I wouldn't be bothered much because there's no real meaning behind it. If someone falls over and says "Sh!t", I'm not going to be bothered because it means nothing. They might as well say "dishwasher" instead. If they called me a worthless ****** who looks like a regurgitated pile of donkey crap, then I'd probably be pretty pissed off. It's about the meanings, not the words themselves.

They are words that, like any other words, can and should be used when you feel it is appropriate.

Being afraid of words - and I mean the n-word as much as any profanity - has never done civilization any good.

But you are disrespecting physics in your sig then! Isaac Newton wants to spank your behind.

But my intent in saying "fetch" versus its better known cousin isn't the same - I am making an effort not to say a word that is widely considered a swear word, which is what makes the difference.

But isn't a swear word considered a swear word only because it's used with a specific intent?

In other words, if everybody started using "fetch" instead of its cousin, wouldn't then fetch become a swear word?

Not necessarily bad at all. It's the intention behind words that's really offensive, not the words themselves, you can say the most vile things in the world without ever cursing.

BG is doing the same thing as some here has done before. They are trying way to get around the filter. They know they can't get by as easily using the real word so they use one as close as possible to it. So yeah, I don't like BG cheap trick. It's as if it is their religion to use profanity.

Well, they could at least be original about it as in Judge Dredd/2000AD.

Drokk!
Grud on a green!
etc.

cussing is bad... it makes me cry
