Light In The East: Civs Of The Orient(And Beyond)

Uhm Regalman, why redact it? That UA was already posted here before :p

Shh, short memory spans child. Just like I never knew I posted it before :p

Will try tomorrow with a different one, but still want critique!

Haven't you posted this before?

That was one hell of a ninja. Should post stuff before I go to shower rather than after.

That's just rubbing it in GPuzzle.

Here's a new one:

When a foreign City to which you are sending a Trade Route produces a Great Person, you have a chance to steal that Great Person (they count as having produced a Great Person, but do not lose their Great Person points). All Defensive buildings extend Trade Routes by 10%

I really like it... But it needs more substance. Quite like lastsword's Qin, it is a Great War UA, but it doesn't have enough meat to it... It needs something like an extra bonus based upon the civ. For example: if that was the Umayyad UA (completely random civ) they could have an extra flat bonus relating to deserts or faith.

i must confess i find anime-focused japan civ highly silly! i dunno just something about it is like, eh

it's not too dissimilar from like, Bill Clinton's America having a video game arcade for a UB (and then as soon as I say this it is deemed a wonderful idea)

BRB, coding a Bill Clinton civ with an Arcade unique.

It's not anime-focused. They have a lot more going on. But part of that is Tourism, which represents cultural export. There's no doubt that anime/manga is the most prominent post-war cultural export of Japan. The technological exports - which are even more prominent - are in the UB. Meanwhile I've forgotten what the UA is.

Gotta agree with niao here. That, however, is dependent on the chance.

(@About Scott's design: does the bonus work in desert cities without a naval garrison?)

Dunno why everyone's complaining about a Japan with a Anime Mangaka Great Person, can anyone really discuss that's the most prominent export for Japanese culture in the west?

Nevermind the fact that people started complaining just now.

The true solution is to post while you're showering.

Vidya? I mean SEGA, Sony and Nintendo are Japanese, and last time I checked everyone here has at the very least played Mario.

Hmm. Good point. I would argue that it doesn't feel like that because Kojima is Kojima and Kojima does what Kojima wants (including but not limited to: making a joke about how his eggs look like a pair of tits, writing down "A HIDEO KOJIMA GAME" on a piece of paper and sticking it to one of those removable walls that was advertising The Phantom Pain and whenever it was taken he would just stick it again, writing down "A HIDEO KOJIMA GAME" with a sharpie on everything that was related to TPP he could find), but Resident Evil/Biohazard is Japanese and most people don't even notice.

But yeah, I don't think there's a bigger cultural export that Japan has. Kung-Fu movies are Hong Kong-based, last time I checked.

And the things that make Japanese games unique, stylistically, come from.... Manga!

2. It is not anime it is manga.

Honestly speaking here the difference between Manga and Anime isnt all that big... After all in most cases Manga is essentially reading an anime with a usually much more developed characters, stories, and settings dependent on the Artist or Writer, but ehhh i cant probably cant talk about that considering I've pretty much given up the fandom after the rise of Shonen and all those ridiculously long stories I mean seriously what happened to reading a good 15-10 Volumes?

Depends on where you're shooting, though. And also what exactly are you reading. There's good, short shonen out there - and of the three "big ones" of Shonen (Bleach, Naruto, One Piece), only One Piece has stuff to go. So stuff's thinning down.

Has this turned into CivFanatics Discusses Manga? We probably would like a bunch of no-topic threads or two, though.

One thing is a comic book printed on paper, one is an animated show watched on a screen. There is quite a big difference.

Obviously, but I was more talking about story-wise, like I said a manga is essentially "reading a better anime".

What about Light Novels or Visual Novels?
