Light In The East: Civs Of The Orient(And Beyond)

Sounds great! I like the sound of the Lapattu; I've used Gurush and Sar Quassi as unique units in my version, but I think the Lapattu's effects seem very fitting. I'm not so sure about the onager wagon though.

The UA is brilliant and I would love to see that in action. Jan's art is, of course, superb.

It's nice... But the UA is somewhat useless...
(Would be nice if GGs had an additional function)

More like assimilating conquered cities...

UA: (Epic of the Battle): Workers generate Great General points by completing Improvements.

Would this include repairing pillaged improvements? That would give a little symmetry to the pillage-heal/repair offensive maneuver.

For a tiny additional Great General function, I'd recommend slapping the Hakkapeliitta's "Transfer Movement to Great General" ability on the Chariot replacement.

If we were to hypothetically do Akkad as a civ, what would you guys think of this plan:

I feel this should be more war-orientated, given that Akkad was the first empire.

So what do you guys think could be changed?

Are you hyped about Jan's art?!

That's a reused Gilgamesh, isn't it. Jan did say he didn't want any artwork to go to waste, but I was kind of hoping it would have gone towards RJ's Elam, as he is planning that too. I wanted to suggest it to him, but I'm not complaining. :)

It was, like, my suggestion and subsequent decision where I want to see this art. And no one making Elam approached me and asked.

...and too fast for me too. Shame we'll have to wait to use the icon, but looking forward to the release at the same time.

Does anyone have any ideas for Akkadian UU?

HanNorwood had a "Hunting Bowman" and LordRJ has a "Sar Quassi" (both of which are Composite Bow replacements), but it looks like you already have a mounted unit icon.

EDIT: Wow, I can't keep all these mod threads straight. I forgot you already had plans for an Onager Cart and Lapattu.

Amazing icon :D Especially loved how well-defined the cart itself is, just like Firaxis' stuff.

It's a fantastic icon. There's some basic information that I've found in Osprey's "Bronze Age War Chariots" that seems to suggest that they were simply known as Battlewagons and had four horses due to being so bulky. Talking of Sumerian (rather than specifically Akkadian chariots), they say that it was armed with a quiver holding short spears and a sickle sword, which had been invented in that area at the time. It's main function was to charge and panic the enemy whilst the on-board warrior engaged them with spears - but there were no bows.

Whilst I don't speak Akkadian, but the translation for war chariot is narkabat tahazi. There's two names for charioteers: assaru and sa-narkabti. The art of chariot fighting is mar damqutu. Perhaps one of those would be useful for the name?
