Limiting Magic

are you going to actually implement such a system in rife? would be interesting so see how it turns out. i wonder what sephis opinion on this matter is.
 
if this is possible you could even divide between arcane mana and divine magic, making the first pool be replenished by mana nodes and the second one gets reinforced by religious buildings.
 
Moving dispel to Metamagic III sounds like a very good idea. With dispel as it is now, defensive buffs (of which there are quite a few) are basically useless for the AI vs the player, and if the AI learned to use dispel, would be useless for the player as well. Part of the problem might be that IIRC it cannot be resisted. Move it to Metamagic III and give units a decent chance of resisting it (taking into account it would be casted by an archmage with metamagic III...) would be my suggestion.

About nerfing mages, how about blocking access to mobility promotions and limiting the effect of the haste spells to non-arcane units? This would make mage stacks much harder to defend against their natural counters. Also, it never made sense to me with mages running around everywhere...

QFT - good points.

I also like the idea of making Metamagic quite a bit harder to get at all. But (ATM at least) I don't have an idea that doesn't then make it too rare, or simply expensive.

Probably too involved, but it could be that magi *need* their labs. So they'd be limited outside them: -1 tier, only cast every other turn, something like that.
