LINESII- Into the Darkness- Part III

The rebellion was collapsing. In order to sustain the revolution, new revolutions must be had. At first the villages and tribes had been unified in vision of beaking free from Kalmar, but with those men gone, the Hugions had begun to rebell against themselves. Those leaders who still worked together, worried about losing everything they had paid for in blood, met in a modest house in a equally small village to discuss their plans.

The people who lived in the region were mostly farmers, herders, and simple folk. While the old king to the south denegrated them as country fold, there were advantages. Most significant, the Hugions were pragmatic. They weren't concerned with high minded affairs or the latest trends, just how to live a good, simple life. Not all members of the Hugion movement were actually natives of the region. The most famous leader was Baron Faldon, a lesser noble who had been given land by the old Kalmar King. In Kalmar, Faldon was one of the lowest, poorest nobles in the kingdom. It was said that his family had been disgraced, and he had been sent here as punishment for his father's transgressions.

Nevertheless, when the revolution exploded, it was Faldon who organized and trained a simple army of farmers, and providing assistance to the rebels to defeat his fellow Kalmarians. The current problem was that there were at least a half-dozen other splinter rebel groups out there, threatening each other and their neighboring lands. This was why the leaders were meeting in the house. It was agreed that the various groups must be united and put to good use, lest anarchy reign, but the question was how.

Faldon in the end made a convincing argument. Peasants, he said, were good folk, honest folk, but they weren't leaders. Some of these peasants had gained power in the rebellion, and like tying to handle a hot coal from a forge, they didn't know what to do. Now, some had been corrupted by power, and were a danger to the society. As a matter of expediency, Faldon argued, there must be a leader who is a ruler, to guide and develop a class of rulers of Hugion.

The rebel leaders didn't trust Faldon completely. He was, after all, a Kalmarian nobleman. However, he had assisted in the rebellion, and by all accounts he had shown himself honest and trustworty to them. They were willing to give him a chance, without Kalmar Faldon's power base was he himself alone; it would be easy to depose of him. Thus Baron Faldar (with no name or title change) was simply appointed leader of Hugion, and tasked with united the country and saving it from itself.

Over the next few months, Faldon sent his militia to combat the rebel lords. Some of the rebel leaders assented to his authority, and joined his ranks. For those that refused, fighting was simple, and always victorious for Fladon. His troops' slight training gave them just enough edge over the untrained peasants of the other minor leaders.

OOC: Yup, I'm taking over the Hugions.

LI: Orders Sent.

Naturally! I was laughing so much I nearly fell off my chair myself. Still, I guess it cannot be helped. With orders sent and all, Massive Attack is in for himself on himself.

I should really try to get through part II of this so I know whats going on in the world around me since many of these things you guys refer to are completely foreign.

You might want to look for your next pick, so to speak. Although I don't want to dash all of your hopes...

Orders sent;

@Massive Attack; yes, sorry. I can offer you Kalmer as my vassal (I merely ask that you consult me before you do anything major diplomatically, and I of course ensure your protection). On the Flip side if what JD says is true, you could take the Citidal nation their, (I would offer you vassilisation again, due to the weakness's now of the Citidals position). Although Kalmer might be better, as it allows you to partake in more military operations.

But seriously, why did you pick a spot in the most powerfull nations Vassal to rebel? I encourage you to partake but...:/

My understanding, mistaken as it may be, was they had already achieved, to an extent, an independance and territoriality. I didn't have any control over the rebellion; I took them after the last update, etc.

I harbor no illusions about the chance of success of surviving, though my hope was that if I made it through 1 update, they would be considerably better. But if I don't, well, that was just minimal emotional investment.

"Know thyself"
- The Archmagi

The Magi had limited contact with The King over the previous years. The Magi were a hierarchical organisation; their leader the Archmagi [1], organised their efforts; their purpose was simple, contain and snuff out religious rebellion. A lesson learnt from the White Rose Wars. Multi-religious nations always bore a risk of rebellion.

The Magi themselves undertook to learn all major theological thoughts, of all religions of significance. Although nominally Aegyption [2], they could argue a point of faith from any angle. It is said that the Great Writer, Said [3], who wrote an initial comparison of world religions, was the seed to the idea. The major point of divergance here is that whilst Said interpeted all religions through his own, Anduesan, interpetation. The Magi sought to undertake a more detached view point.

Wether they were succesfull in their intial aims remains to be seen, as only the passage of time will show.

"Truth is a weapon, people will lie, cheat and steal for the truth, some will even kill. Those who use it will control the dynamic of their world. My wife is to be feared for this reason alone,"

-The Knight; Memoirs

The Archmagi spent an inordinate time with the Kings son; Sileus, or so the Knight thought. The Archmagi was technically their to teach the Sileus on matters of theology, but The Knights gut told him somebody was trying to pull the wool over his eyes.

The King had sent them north, to take care of the rebels; The Archmagi was here for the same reason. Their discussion of tactics was frustrating; The Archmagi was smart, of that he was sure, they came to similar opinions about the state of the conflict, but suggested doing things almost completly contray to his well honed military instinct, no thats not right. The Ideas were different, acheiving aims in a different manner. They argued constantly on which ideas to use.

Sileus spoke once; "Distraction,"

He had picked up an irritating habit ot thinking through the intermediate steps, and simply stating his final conclusion; A brief explanation followed after the puzzled silence of his tutors [4].

The Archmagi laughed afterwards. "It looks like I am the one who completes The Great Knight"

"Ithaeur would have seen this from the start, he would have gone straight to the heart of the matter,"

"Ironic that you say that, The Void was a broken man, and as much as you pretend to be broken too, wallowing in your self-pity, you were never whole to begin with [5],"

The room was silent, and then the Knight strode out.

"I think you have him," Smiled Sileus "I presume you know the appropriate actions to take here?"

"As always,"

[1] changed "The Magi" (leader of said group from previous story) to Archmagi, to reduce confusion.
[2] I could take this down a totally different angle in the future; either having an Illuminati type organisation (for fun!) or simply using a radiclisation of the policy to turn it into something much different.
[3] Anyone remember this guy?
[4] I was going to write, Puzzeled expression, I remembered however that both have their faces concealed at all times.
[5] A point of note on the culture, look at my stories of religion for Andues, and hot the two complete the interepations etc.

Wasn't Said the one who started the whole Khemrian "assimilation theology"?

EDIT: Sorry, he founded Khemrian Monotheism. I remember now.

If you want to make up an arangement wherein I move my "rebels" to "former" citadel territory, I'm amenable. (With citadel approval presumably)

Yeah, moving your movement into the Citadel (possibly retaining Hugion homelands) would probably be your best bet.
