"Know thyself"
- The Archmagi
The Magi had limited contact with The King over the previous years. The Magi were a hierarchical organisation; their leader the Archmagi [1], organised their efforts; their purpose was simple, contain and snuff out religious rebellion. A lesson learnt from the White Rose Wars. Multi-religious nations always bore a risk of rebellion.
The Magi themselves undertook to learn all major theological thoughts, of all religions of significance. Although nominally Aegyption [2], they could argue a point of faith from any angle. It is said that the Great Writer, Said [3], who wrote an initial comparison of world religions, was the seed to the idea. The major point of divergance here is that whilst Said interpeted all religions through his own, Anduesan, interpetation. The Magi sought to undertake a more detached view point.
Wether they were succesfull in their intial aims remains to be seen, as only the passage of time will show.
*****
"Truth is a weapon, people will lie, cheat and steal for the truth, some will even kill. Those who use it will control the dynamic of their world. My wife is to be feared for this reason alone,"
-The Knight; Memoirs
The Archmagi spent an inordinate time with the Kings son; Sileus, or so the Knight thought. The Archmagi was technically their to teach the Sileus on matters of theology, but The Knights gut told him somebody was trying to pull the wool over his eyes.
The King had sent them north, to take care of the rebels; The Archmagi was here for the same reason. Their discussion of tactics was frustrating; The Archmagi was smart, of that he was sure, they came to similar opinions about the state of the conflict, but suggested doing things almost completly contray to his well honed military instinct, no thats not right. The Ideas were different, acheiving aims in a different manner. They argued constantly on which ideas to use.
Sileus spoke once; "Distraction,"
He had picked up an irritating habit ot thinking through the intermediate steps, and simply stating his final conclusion; A brief explanation followed after the puzzled silence of his tutors [4].
The Archmagi laughed afterwards. "It looks like I am the one who completes The Great Knight"
"Ithaeur would have seen this from the start, he would have gone straight to the heart of the matter,"
"Ironic that you say that, The Void was a broken man, and as much as you pretend to be broken too, wallowing in your self-pity, you were never whole to begin with [5],"
The room was silent, and then the Knight strode out.
"I think you have him," Smiled Sileus "I presume you know the appropriate actions to take here?"
"As always,"
[1] changed "The Magi" (leader of said group from previous story) to Archmagi, to reduce confusion.
[2] I could take this down a totally different angle in the future; either having an Illuminati type organisation (for fun!) or simply using a radiclisation of the policy to turn it into something much different.
[3] Anyone remember this guy?
[4] I was going to write, Puzzeled expression, I remembered however that both have their faces concealed at all times.
[5] A point of note on the culture, look at my stories of religion for Andues, and hot the two complete the interepations etc.
