List of AI Stupidities

This happened to me once as well. The first time I figured it was because my sub was not a vet (it was not damaged).

I also had an ironcald sink a battleship - The battleship had suffered one hit point, but that was crazy.

I will never get used to the crazy things that happen with the AI. In my current game there has been a russian banging back and forth between two squares for the entire game.

That one seems to apply to just about every unit the AI builds. I've seen them using Caravels when they should have traded them in for Transports long ago.
I think that I once had a warrior attack my musketeer. And I'm not sure, but I think it won!

But verry usefull for you. If you come across a civ with antiquated defenders don't destroy them untill you are redy to take over. If you do, they will replace with more modern units that are more dificult to destroy.

I just had a spanish transport pull up and upload two chariots right next to one of my tanks. And the first chariot had the gall to actually attack the tank. needless to say, it lost and the tank overran the second one in short order. The ai just never upgrades its units. It is really neat to find that little civ out in the boondocks with your tanks and howies and discover it is still defending with phlanax.

Of course, in Civ3 the civ needs resources as well as techs to build certain units, so in a strange kind of way it's actually more understandable, since they might have built the Longbowmen in a different city that wasn't linked to the capital (though why they didn't send them to the nearest capital-linked Barracks city for an upgrade is also beyond me).

Back on topic here... Ever noticed how the AI often pushes for all-out modern techs at the expense of those ancient ones they neglected? It's very funny to see that the AI has Flight, but not Writing, for example. I'd be surprised to see that they got the planes in the air without being able to read the instruction manuals.

Jade: Maybe. But it's still kinda funny.

It's also kinda humorous to see in the Foreign Advisor report that a civ has Steel, but not Iron Working. They must rely heavily on imports.

Has anyone noticed that fanatics are suppose to fight for their side with everything they got, but they're easier to bribe than anything else except warriors?

If you think of them as brain-washed people, and think of spies as pretty good at psycology, then maybe it's more realistic... (The real reason is the cost of the unit...)

Exactly. 20 shields of absolute loyalty, worth 8 cents.

A Sub to a Caravel??? That's pretty sad... I guess they could have dropped rocks on you

Hmmm... It might actually be possible. Diesel Submarines spent most of their time on the surface anyway. So if the caravel snuck up on it while surfaced, it might have been able to hit it with cannonballs on a critical spot.

I lost a tank to two spearmen. I guess their spears had exploding points or something?

That hasn't happened to me yet, though I haven't played Civ III enough. I'm guessing that most likely the tank was already weak.

It is unrealistic for spearmen to beat a healthy tank. This never happened to me in Civ II with the firepower/hitpoint system. BUT you can still look at it as the spearmen catching the tank out of gas or something, or coming up with clever traps or molotov cocktails.

I also lost an ironclad once to a frigate. I think the frigate was a vet and the ironclad came from a city without a harbor. But, it still seems really strange that it could happen like that.
