Little questions & answers thread

how do you change government? I picked despotism in antiquity as i wanted some early units but i want to switch now

How do you plunder trade routes or kill or capture merchants/traders - trade route. I tried moving a Jaguar onto a hex with a merchant of an enemy.
I've done if with naval units only. When you move you're unit on top of the travelling merchant, there's an icon that appears allowing you to plunder. I imagine it's the same thing for land units

I just encountered a strange bug. Played as Asoka with Maurya until the end of the antiquity age. For the next age I picked Chola, clicked continue, but instead of continuing the game, my last savefile from my previous game with Amina was loaded. As all autosaves from the Asoka game were gone, I couldn't resume my game. (Which was sad because I was doing quite fine in the antiquity age.)
Did anyone also have this bug?

I would understand from the tooltip, that if placed on rough terrain Motte would give +4 base and +4 from rough terrain = +8 happiness at least. But as you can see, rough or flat terrain, it only shows +4 base happiness, only bonus accounted for is from the Wonder. Does it mean that something is bugged here? The Motte itself, the tooltip or the estimated yields?

you can always save, place it, & find out (I'm curious about the answer, since normans are coming up in my game)

All your previous game auto-saves should have been wiped when you started as Asoka. Anytime you start a new game or transition an age, all auto-saves are cleaned out. I'm curious: did you load an Amina save file at some point while working on your Asoka game?

Unless you have since started a new game, your previous Asoka auto-saves should still be available in the folder:
\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization VII\Saves\Single\auto\prev

Just copy the most recent save into your Saves folder, load it, and continue your Asoka game.

I believe that the Jaguar Slayer is a unique scout, and those are considered as civilian units in this game. Thus, their combat strength is for defense only: they cannot attack.

Is there anywhere it tells you how many trade routes (merchants) you can have/build? Or do I just keep building merchants until I can't anymore?

The Jaguar Slayer specifically states that it can attack, despite being a Scout.
Thank you for the note! In that case, I’m stumped…

The culprit is the estimated yield. Mine said +6 (2 adjacent Wonders) and it got +10 once bought (for a quicker test).

It's strange what the estimation does and doesn't seem to include. When placing a building in a district with specialists it appears to include the yield from specialists in the on-tile preview, from what I've seen.

I think his "the good doctor" events are extra additions, right? The ones that've got him on the special pedestal?
Oh, when I saw that in the reveal video I thought that's a new (later game version build) way leader NE are portrayed with them standing on pedestal.

Are there any other buildings that gain yields when on a specific terrain? I wonder if the display is bugged for all of them, or just the Motte.

2 questions-

Germany (i know prussia is ingame but i am from bavaria so i dont really care About that) and Britain is seriously missing at the start of the game or? So they can charge us extra in the future for dlc Content that should have been present at the launch of the game?!

I still dont have the freedom to choose 1 civ, like in the previous games, and just play the whole game with it? I really dont like to ne forced to choose era suiting civs instead of just playing the civ i want from the start. Really liked playing civs like Babylon and lead it to the future, now it would be a complete mess and forced to follow some historical civs in thatberas

Thanks for the advice. I didn't know that this folder "prev" existed. I found my Asoka autosave and can continue playing.

So what are some more ways to get relics? I don't have enough city states to get 12 relics for cultural victory in exploration age (I chose the religion reliquary to give a relic upon city state conversion).

edit: so I am blind. I just noticed there is a third civics tree to research. Here I am looking for theology in the main tree.
A bit late to answer this but: house of wisdom grants 3 relics, and is a huge help for the legacy path.

Prussia is really Germany in all but name (including some uniques). It's not really pre-1871 only, the Stuka is from the 1930s. I very much doubt we'll see Germany - at least as long as we don't get civ personas or an additional age.
