Yes, but Firaxis is a US company. And the California wildfires - rightly or wrongly - have generated a lot of publicity. Firaxis have to be sensitive to that.

I don't think we're going to get a firestorm, not with that amount of rain. We should get some visible destruction, though, and some flooding.

So if a tornado hit Florida right now, Firaxis had to cancel the expansion? Seems a bit silly...

Yes, it would seem a bit silly.

But there's a difference between "cancelling the expansion" and "using a wildfire in an expansion teaser video when there are other ways to demonstrate climate change/weather effects".

Well it's not exactly tornado season. So that's the good thing. From now until Feb 14th the only deadly weather we could experience is winter storms or earthquakes (which aren't weather exactly)
 
When kids will discuss Civ10 in 20 years or so there will be those scattered old people posting "remember the days when we watched clouds for 24 hours to get an announcement for the CiVI expansion? Legendary!". :D
