[GS] Livestreamer Previews Discussion Thread

yes, selling all your strategics and luxuries let's you run a gold-based economy from the very early game. It's one of the reasons I've found that cutting out chopping didn't slow down my empire's development by much. It means districts are slower to get up, but districts are almost the only thing I hard build any more. Okay, that last point is an exaggeration, as a purely gold-based economy doesn't happen until mid-game, but the point is that buying immediately gets you what you want where you want, and the quicker you get to that point and away from producing anything except projects, the better. The new tradeable diplomatic favours should make it even faster to get to that point.

Diplo favor didn't look like the largest offender here as that currency looks rather valuable when the WC comes knocking.

Piecemealing out the strategics appears to be the issue here as Marbozir (in his Maori video) liberally dispensed his for large gold and diplo favor gains. I think he got 70 gold for 20 horses and 11 Diplo + some gold for 20 horses.

It just appears the AI is very very generous with their currency for strategics and sometimes diplo. favor.

Is it just me.. Everyone is going for Inca, Hungary, and Maori and nobody is covering Mali?

My google-fu is not great, but if there is a Mali streamer preview I'm interested.

Its linked to earlier in the thread but I couldn't find it so heres Many a True Nerd's Mali playthrough:
Looks like all the other English playthroughs were Maori, Canada or Inca

Did anyone noticed if there's turtles in any lets play? I'm not seeing turtles in the ones I'm watching and its been a while since I last saw turtles in my R&F games. I think turtles spawn is glitched and it still not fixed in the build they are playing.

I have seen some, but I could not tell you where as I have watched a lot of lets plays at this moment

Took the words right out of my mouth. Well, off my fingertips actually :-) I believe I saw turtles in Marbozir's Kupe play, but unsure of which one

Turtles @ 25:50 just above the barb camp.

Of course that assumes you choose to sell Diplomatic Favor as opposed to wanting to trade FOR it

You trade for it later, once you've got your engine going and the WC resolutions become more important and directly linked to victory.

Ideally, the AI will be coded to value favours very little in the early game and very highly in the late game. We'll have to see.

I just watched the FXS stream featuring Phoenicia... are we back to an AI with catapults running around in the modern era? Because that is what I saw.

I'm actually playing a new R&F game despite telling myself I was done until GS. There are turtles dotting the coastline of my continent.

Literally right after responding, I think I've found the source for the Chocolate Hills quote:

It's part of a story called The Three Brothers ("Narrated by Gregorio Frondoso, a Bicol from Tigaon, Camarines. The narrator says, 'This story was told to me by an old man who happened to stay at our house one night. He was a traveller. I was then a little boy.”') as part of a larger collection of Filipino Popular Tales compiled by Dean S. Fansler.

Never actually heard of that version of the legend. Hmmm....

Is there any Play showing the combat AI...?
Yes just watched Marbozir as the Ottomans take AI Dido’s Capital with almost zero resistance at all on Immortal. Was extremely disappointing. AI had 3 spearman running around like idiots attacking his scout and the two catapults they had never attacked just kept moving around each turn until they died.

Disappointing but unfortunately not unexpected. I fear that having an AI that actually plays the game and not just run around aimlessly is just not going to happen. :(

Another AI related thing I'm kinda worried about after watching some of the videos... the amount of trade offers. Now, I don't know if it just feels like there's more coming because I don't normally watch livestreams but it just seems like there's a lot of trade offers. I really don't want *more* popups than in vanilla/R&F.

Okay, I have updated the Features Thread with every last Geographical Feature I could find in every livestream, if I have missed any please let me know

I'm watching it as well, and it's pretty disappointing. The only new feature he's interacted with at all is the world congress (because he has no other choice). He's avoided taking advantage of natural disasters. Out of character for him, he's building wonders...but not new ones. He listens to all the tech quotes, but he skips the leader dialogue. And he's playing as Canada. :( I'm only still watching because quill18 is the only streamer I've found whose voice does not cause me physical pain. :p

I just watched him build the St Basil in a city with 0 tundra tiles, while at the same time sending settlers to the tundra in order to build ice hockey rinks. In the same city there were some rainforest tiles, and the Chichen was still available. It almost feels like he's clicking buttons at random.
