[GS] Livestreamer Previews Discussion Thread

It's sort of funny that we who have been pouring over these details for weeks know the mistakes the livestreamers are making despite them having more hands on experience with the new mechanics than us.

Just showing some tile yield porn. Younger viewers may want to shield their eyes.

A wonder I never build, but with the Maori, yes I will be building it.

Now imagine if any of those tiles were next to a natural wonder that gave an extra bonus?
and he got rid of two other jungle tiles early for the aqueduct and theatre square even tho he has useless desert in the third ring. Would also be okay if he was squeamish about buying tiles but hes spent roughly a trillion gold on buying tiles this game just not there for some mysterious reason... oh well lol

EDIT: also in his never-ending tile buying he never once even considered adding the 20% tile purchase discount ugh. I like potato but he was driving me wild all game.

The Mali and Incas are my first plays in GS and both are rather unconventional in that housing/amenities will be their bottleneck. I would've liked press release streamers to put a bit of thought into play and "show off" GS like 2K wanted. Instead we're treated to streamers, " :wallbash: " far too often.

Quill18 bought a Naturalist... As Canada. Why, Crab God, why have you forsaken us? Why do you allow such madness??

He was even trying to hold back on Era Score too, to save it for the next Age. He could've gotten Mountie AND first National Park at the same time!

In his defense though; he was playing in the middle of the night. I don't play my best at those god forsaken hours either.

So if they are going to allow cheese tactics like this to win diplomatic victory, they need to raise the threshold to win to at least 20 instead of 10. You can see here where the wonky voting mechanics allow cheesing way to diplomatic victory. Pay attention to what Cyus is doing, and realize that even when everyone else (mostly) is voting for themselves, it in a way counts as a vote for Canada.

Nope, never once have they for me. I'm talking allies here, not friendships or less.

Sorry to pull something up from yesterday, but I'm not following how Cyrus's vote counted as a vote for Canada? My understanding is that Cyrus's entire vote gets rejected. The target went to Canada because Canada put so many votes in.

UI bug that shows you strategic resources in advance of you being able to see those strategic resources. Hopefully something fixed in the final build.

He did put that in later, but by video #6 it was gone again.

I'd have to go back to check the picture again, but if I remember correctly, Cyrus would have been better off voting for option A, but voting for himself. I believe he had more diplomatic favor he spent on that vote, and that would have caused Cyrus to get 2 diplomatic victory points and Quill to get 0. Instead, he voted for option B. My main concern was that all the other civilizations votes for A (which they voted for themselves) was in essence, a vote for Quill18. That's more of a concern than how Cyrus was voting. But I'm less concerned about this now after watching his recent videos when EVERYONE voted against Quill18, taking away a diplomatic victory point. So at least he won't cruise into victory, the AI is starting to fight back a little bit.

From what I'm seeing;

- The vote sees if the resolution passes or fails first (22-12). Obviously this passed thus Cyrus gets his diplo favor back

- Since the vote passed, the person whom gets the victory point is determined by most votes for a particular party. Canada wins here with 9 votes.

- IF someone tied Canada, The party whom put in the most % of their total diplo. favor wins the tie.

All of that being said, Cyrus could've gotten the victory point if they voted for them self.

What can confuse players here is Cyrus Votes on Part B thus trying to take away diplo victory points away from Canada.

This is my current understanding of the screen cap; If anyone has a differing opinion I'd like to see it.

That is all correct.

However, if Cyrus had been employing the Rabblerousing policy (Information Warfare civic) then he would eventually get 50% of his expended Favor back when the AI civs completed the successful DV point removal vote instead of losing all of it.

Yeah, that was painful to watch. "Let's go buy a bunch of tiles to get a 2f/1p tile." "Oh no, we've grown so much that we have housing and amenities issues". I assume a lot of that was force of habit.

*Although scanning through, it definitely feels like it's applying the -30% twice. Given that right at the start, he's making 3.1 production per turn, and the scout is listed as 20 turns. Definitely feels like it's a lot closer to the -51% penalty that happens when that -30% is applied twice. Hopefully they can fix that before release.

So that bug actually came true? Lily was right for once...

The dude really is on autopilot.
That's why I stopped watching. I usually enjoy Quill's games, but he's really paying no attention at all and it's driving me crazy. :crazyeye: Also thank you to the people who recommended Potato McWhiskey; I'm enjoying his game better.

A lot of these people are immensely rusty. Marbozir's Netherlands game (the one after his restart) was filled with frustrations ("oh I can go for religions because I'm generating faith" duuuuude you need PROPHET POINTS!!!! BUILD THE DAMN SHRINE!!!! AAAAAARGH!!!") He still owned that game because, you know, it's Marbs, but my atheist ass needed freaking JESUS after watching that fumble. (Having said that, his let's plays are the BEST because he really cuts down the stupid crap and actively tries to showcase the strengths of every Civ, which is brilliant. Maori and Ottomans are clearly strong Civs, and he confirmed my suspicions that Mali is pretty rubbish. I defo want him to do ALL of the leaders before the release.)

Quill and Potato have little excuse to play the way they are but bear with me that they normally play Civ on a higher difficulty level (Quill on Immortal, Potato on Deity). Because the NDA forces them to play on Emperor, I think they're being nonchalant on purpose. They can beat the game on Immortal; why play hyper-effectively on Emperor? Let them have their fun. Hyper-effective play is super boring anyway.

I do wish the streamers had picked better Civs though. Canada is a massive snore and so are the Ottoman like, give us SWEDEN AND PHOENICIA dammit.

To be fair, the streamers playing Canada, from what I've seen, are from Canada so I give them a pass.
