LK101, Diety, World Map, Civ=TBD

India has only 4 defenders in their capitol. I sense much hurtage coming on if they womehow got into a war with Persia. I have no idea how that could happen. :p

India only had 25 cities in 850AD.. I dont think they would not last long if China decided they wanted their lands..

The embassy established with Babylon in 950 AD.

Something I notice in these world map games is that it seems several AIs prefer communism over fascism... Do they know they are better off in communism because they have so many cities? Usually the AIs seems to go for fascism for the higher unit support.

900 AD
I get the first wave in the open next to Campinas. I was hoping for more then 2 archers, 2 spears and 1 swordsman. I am trying to set that city up as a kill zone. The only way we can move forward is to at least thin out the AI stacks. I killed that stack along with a few other strays. The only loss on our side was a veteran horseman to a 1 hp spearman.

Now that we have a decent world map I disband the curragh exploring in Europe.

I would like to have some idea whom the big boys are fighting. I established an embassy with India for $176. The cash is from the fact we are now picking up stray money in map trading.
(IT) Even though we may lose a few GPT I have my limits. I tell Australia to shove their demand for Invention. They back down on there absurd demands.

910 AD
The second SoD consists of 4 spears, 3 swords, and 1 archer. I lost a named archer. I lost an elite sword to an injured spearman. I also killed 2 stray horsemen. I don't know if I will have enough healthy units left next turn to kill the next SoD.
(IT) India offers an MPP straight up?

We get a free embassy from Egypt. :D

920 AD
The next SoD to kill is 3 archers, 4 spearmen, 1 sword and 1 warrior. At least the army ZoC got a lot and the catapults hit well. I manage to kill the stack, but I redlined one of our armies to do so. I am very glad another SoD won't arrive next turn.

I have to kill yet another landing of 2 units by San Goncalo. At least this time it is worth it:
LAK-834.jpg

This will become a knight army even if it will take a bit to fill it.
(IT) Brazil and Egypt ally vs. Persia. :crazyeye:
Do you really think Brazil's effort will mean anything? OTOH if they got enough gold for it I may have to sell them a tech. ;)
Songhai and India sign a peace treaty.
The Mongols and India ally vs. Zululand.
Egypt and India sign a peace treaty.
Egypt and Brazil ally vs. the Songhai. This causes Egypt to declare war on the Songhai! Egypt must have a death wish.
Songhai and Aztecs sign a peace treaty.

930 AD
I get a break with just 3 units to worry about. What I can't figure out is when we will run out of SoD. I still see two more heading our way.

(IT) I decline the Iroquois offer of an alliance against Egypt.
China is building Universal Suffrage.

940 AD
This turn is just 5 units. The monster stack arrives next turn. I lost an obsolete horse on the stack. I let the armies kill 3 units in the big stack on the way. The knight army goes yellow on a single spear. :(

LAK-835.jpg

It is yet another army. We really need some buildings worth rushing. I hate making every leader an army. The leader streak proves that building the Pentagon by hand was wasteful. The trouble is building rushing works best after rails and we are a long way away from those.
(IT) The Iroquois and Egypt sign a peace treaty.
Germany declares war on the Aztecs.

950 AD
Our economy is one again totally trashed. I renegotiate peace with America and get Banking for iron and $103/turn. I give Egypt Banking and get Gunpowder, $3 and $3/turn. Astronomy was out of reach. We have 2 sources of Saltpeter. Well this just bites. The only civ that needs saltpeter that we can ship to is America and I just did the peace trick. Egypt needs it, but we still lack a valid trade route.

WTH? We are suddenly at war with Germany. My only guess is the trade route busted again ending the peace deal. There goes a trading partner for now. :(

Thanks mostly to money from map trading I get an embassy with Babylon.

The final stack to kill consists of 2 archers, 4 spearmen and 8 swordsmen. I only see a few straggler troops behind this. I lost an elite MDI against this stack. I also redlined 2 armies.

==========================

Summary:
Please keep Avellaneda on defensive military. We need more defenders in the north, and we still need to replace the junk in the south. I can't believe how many cities are still defended by spears.

Don't bother with embassies with the junk civs like France and Australia. At this point we need China, Babylon and the other big boys.

The Pentagon will complete the first IT. Make sure to add a fourth unit to every army.

The economy has been very frustrating this game. We just can't get any decent amount of GPT free.

I really hope Gyathaar can make real progress against Venezuela and that my ten turns of stagnation and headache had some value.

Remember 10 turns per round - STRICT 24 hours got it, total 48 hours to at complete.
5 to 10 turns starting with the industrial age. Once the game starts dragging 48 hours to at least report a status update.

Got it.
Wow.. india is making massive cash.. they are at 40689 gold now.. 19157 gold in 850AD.. that is more than 2000gpt and they were running 100% sci..

I wouldn't call another 2 armies nothing LK. You snagged some techs, got us some more military and we just ate through all their loose troops.
The next player should make some headway and then we will start munching up cities quickly.

My comment was purely from a military standpoint. I hate 10 turns of gaining ZERO ground. Yes, I killed a lot of troops. However, I captured / razed no cities. I hate fighting a war where I make no forward progress. All I could do is setup Gyathaar to get somewhere. For me that is an extremely frustrating turn. The bigger problem is that I never should have been in this war in the first place. We simply weren't ready.

From a development point the turn was decent with a few more techs, a pretty good world map, 2 embassies with powerhouse civs and a few more completed buildings. Any completed building is good as our infrastructure is really suffering from all these wars. We really need churches to get to size 12 and get a decent culture rating. As of right now crippled Brazil is better then us for culture.

I started by checking what civs that has astronomy that cant trade maps yet:
America,Greece,Egypt all have astronomy, but no navigation yet

Who can trade maps, but not in IA yet?:
Persia,Mongols,Russia,Songhai

Looks like plenty of trade opportunities to get into IA.

Australia,Brazil, venezuela, France and Germany (I assume) are all behind us in techs...

In other words just 6 Civs are in Industrial ages yet (and they might be running away)

I know America isn't in that good of shape. At the beginning of my turn the only option from America was gunpowder. That is why my token research was on gunpowder to reduce that price.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

LAK-837.jpg

Yeah, I know.. if only we could afford to buy or steal democracy right now... :)
We could most likely get astronomy, gunpowder, metallurgy, economy and perhaps physics and MT for it

I would pull a deal with Australia Immeadiately for gold and Music theory.
We are not too hurting. I am very confident on this game now.

Australia will only give Music theory (worthless), 33gold and 5gpt..
IMO it is better to wait and see if they will research astronomy. in that case we can give them both banking and gunpowder for it.

I have a few more thoughts on the game.

We really want to keep Germany alive. As long as he enemies we have an easier time trading. The wars against them was how we got a good world map mostly from iron. We will probably get more deals during the game if we keep them alive. I would like to propose that we give the 2 northern cities to Germany once peace is signed. We can achieve domination between mainland America and mainland Asia. We don't need those junk islands for domination.

I don't want to get a bunch of junk cities from Venezuela in a peace treaty.

While I am ok with most of the captures from Venezuela there are 2 razes I want. The first raze is the silks city near Brazil. I want it replaced with a city on the other side of the silks. The luxuries are just to value for sale, and I don't want to risk them in the flip. The second raze is the city by the Aztec border. I want our city on the iron hill. Get a temple rushes ASAP, and then walls. We need a solid choke point city to deal with the Aztecs.

Venezuela has 10 cities up in alaska/canada/greenland .. I think I would prefer to just raze all the venezuelan cities in south america (unless we can get them in peace deal) to have no flip risks at all.. plus it will give us more slave workers.. we are pretty low on workers and slaves (23 workers and 37 slaves I think it was) and there is a lot of jungle to clear (and rails in not too distant future)

Now that is something I agree with. The core isn't to bad, but is still not optimal. Some of our cities are purely mined when they need irrigation to use the hills / mountains at size 12. We have a lot of cities to get up to size 6 / 12 and create specialist cities from. What comes from Venezuela will all be those type of cities. There are still a lot of spots where the road net has gaps that would make movement easy. I even started shipping a lot of workers north at the end, as there is no road net to connect into Venezuelan territory.

I am ok with this as long as we are not donating land to the Aztecs. I would like to own the land up to the choke. It would mean possibly holding back an attack until a a settler can get there.

I agree with this to. We have 4 nearby settlers, but more will be needed. More Aztecs cities will be a real pain. We still have flip risk just from the peace offer city.

I agree with this..
Thinking back it might have been wise to ally aztecs vs brazil right after giving them that city for peace.. brazil most likely would have taken out that undefended city then before it developed too far.. and aztecs would have killed off the brazilian north american cities..
on the bright side aztecs will clear some jungle and lay rails for us there.
