New Updates
Once Debre Berhan completes GT lets go whip happy with every other turn if possible, and set the governor on to pure food. I want to keep pushing Japan, and be in a position to hammer Mehmed soon.
While the GA is going on I would like to propose we go to HR and nationhood. I don't see use dropping religion this game, so I would also like to swap to theocracy if possible.
Looking at how pathetic Nagoya's defenses are, I see no reason to stop the war with Japan.

Remember 15 peace / 10 war turns per round. STRICT 24 hours got it, total 48 hours to complete.
Now that I have that off my chest, all went as expected, except for the attack on Nagasaki. It was ultimately successful, but used up most of the catapult stack and I had not had time since the purchase of Engineering to build more useful trebuchets.
I wouldn't be so hard on yourself with the catapult losses. It sounds like with the advent of trebs, the cats should be toned down, if not phased out anyway. With the right civics and +vs city upgrades your new trebs will be far more effective in future offensives while requiring less maintenance. Soon you should be able to relegate the cats to defensive/kamakazi purposes.
Thanks for sharing your game commentary with us all, it is great to hear how others like to get things done.
My game keeps crashing and I suspect it has something to do with logs, since it crashed every time I opened it. Nevertheless, I have run out of spare time today and will be busy until tomorrow evening. I'll have to ask for a swap, if that's okay.
Once I arrived at Nagoya the defences had been beefed up quite a lot, but I spent our siege units and am about to take Nagoya. Should we keep it? It would be a good place to rest our troops before marching onto Tokyo, but the land is bad, Japanese culture pressure strong, and our WW is increasing.
I think it would be better to raze Nagoya, take a cease-fire, and restart the war in about 10 turns with an attack on Tokyo from Gondar once the troops have healed and we built new siege units. I will give you some time to comment before proceeding.
I have selected Chemistry for future cannons and grenadiers. Everyone happy with that?

IIRC we would take major hits Diplo hits as a lot of civs like Japan. Once we stop the war I don't think it will be viable to start up again. The real target needs to be the Ottomans with the AP.
Burn the city and pull back inside our borders until the seige capability is rebuilt. "Rinse and repeat" is not a tactic that works very well in Civ4 because the war weariness seems to escalate and the diplomatic hits are high.
Thanks for your advice. I razed Nagoya and moved our troops into our area to heal, while building more siege units. I also changed civics to HR, Theocracy and nationalism. I got a GG which I settled in Debre Berhan to improve the quality of our drafted troops, and the first batch is moving towards Japan.
There was a vote on a trade embargo against Isabella. I voted no, but on second thought I should probably have voted yes
In the last turn 4 Japanese knights turned up and attack my stack, killing one elephant, and what's worse, giving flank damage to most units. The knights were killed without further loss, but it will take another turn before the troops are healed again. The knights are the biggest problem, and we need pikes. They can be whipped or upgraded in the next turn. After that you should be able to attack again. Good luck!
My game is still crashing, so I'll just have to remember to avoid opening the log.
On the first turn, there were a bunch of announcements that came and were displaced and I was unable to check what they were because opening the log crashes the game. Anyways, I know that Lalibela's water supply was tampered with and that Toku has a nasty stack beside Nagasaki. In response, I upgrade the spearman and whip the grocer in Lalibela. Also, the vote to cancel deals with Isabella is passed.
We are very close to losing Nagasaki, with an injured maceman left, but our two Oromo Warriors arrive that turn and Toku retreats. Shaka asks us to join in the war against Izzy, but I refuse as we have enough on our hands. A few turns later, Shaka captures Salamanca.
It took a long time to bombard Tokyo, but I captured it with minimal losses on turn 8. However, Toku took advantage of the flanking ability to deliver severe damage upon our attack stack, which now requires some time to heal.
On the last turn, Chemistry came in and gave us a nice workshop boost. (+1 hammer). I set research to Military Science for the obvious reasons, but we can discuss something different.
Our troops are healing in Tokyo with all sorts of reinforcements on the way. Keep whipping Debre Berhan, and restock the trebs lost in the battle for Tokyo.
Sorry for the lack of pictures and shabby report. I didn't want to discover another way to crash the game, so I tried not to press too many buttons

We have to many cities in unhappy people. I up the happy rate to 10%.
I reset Gondar (HE city) to maximum shields.
1485 AD
I give Sury Liberalism and Gunpowder for the expensive constitution and compass as a throw in. I am not sure if compass was worth burning part of the WFYABTA annoyance.
1490 AD
I give Brennus liberalism to gain music and optics.
1495 AD
(IT) The Japanese knights are really getting on my nerves. We can't get a clear path to reinforce Tokyo.
1500 AD
Spies are also a pain. Our HE city just went useless due to poisoned water.
1510 AD
Extra cash is always good, so I sell Shaka drama for wm and $320.
1545 AD
We have a decent size empire. I am in no rush to kill the Great Library with SciMeth, so I trip a GA.
1550 AD
The assault of Tokyo begins. The city holds this turn simply because I ran out of attack units.
We got a GG that let us form a medic 3 spear.
1555 AD
I finally move forward again, and Tokyo falls.

New Updates
What slowed me down was the inability to get troops to Tokyo. I got a more northern road that isn't harassed by knights at long as you don't stop on the banana tile by Tokyo.
I would like to swing south next and take Osaka to hopefully put Toku out of the knight business. From there I really want the spice city to gain a new unique resource.

Remember 15 peace / 10 war turns per round. STRICT 24 hours got it, total 48 hours to complete.
In future wars we could try to use spies more efficiently to deny our enemies critical resources. This war would have been so much easier if Japan didn't have access to horses to build those $%#$#! knights.
So, we are at war with Tokugawa. Let's see what I can achieve...
Battle Stats: Units victorious while attacking : 10 Units victorious while defending : 3 Units defeated while attacking : 3 Units defeated while defending : 2
Units killed: 13
Units lost: 5
Kill Ratio: 2.6:1
Not too bad
I played 9 turns to bring us to a round number again.
First Hatty came knocking with a ridiculous demand. Sure, sweety...
By the way I'm glad to be back at my new PC. Blue Marble graphics and that stuff sure is nice to have...
With the discovery of Military Science we hit the Industrial era in 1560 AD.
Mehmed then completes the Colossus, and Izzy capitulates to Shaka. We also lose a Spy in Japanese lands on the way to the horse pasture.
The AP votings. We abstain, here are the results:
Our knight finally takes out the horse pasture that gives Toku the ability to build those annoying knights. The siege of Osaka begins.
We capture Kagoshima. As it is a nice site I decide to keep it. It has some developed Cottages already and lots of food. Only disadvantage is some overlap. Never mind.
WTH ???????? Toku is still building Knights despite having no own source of horses anymore. Further research shows that he gets horses from Shaka as the Zuluman has 2 sources. He doesn't want to stop trading however.
Suryavarman II comes with a trade offer, I show him the door.
Popped another one™ !
The next player has the pleasant task of raiding Osaka.
After all we're doing well !
After the war is over our GNP will get better again by far, we are now in the drain because of high WW and beginning Emancipation demands. We should get Democracy at some point. I researched Banking while we had our GA and then chose Replaceable Parts, heading towards Rifling.

The one thing that concerns me is the AP voting. Mehmed's Christianity now appears everywhere but Spain, and at least one town will be converted soon I should think now that she is a vassal of the Zulu.
Just viewed the map and the diplomatic screen and checked in with Toku. He will capitulate. As his relations with the rest of the world are pretty decent and he shares a state religion with all but Isabella and Mehmed, he may well become a vassal of either Brennus or Suritheman. As I believe Brennus is the Buddhist Holy City the odds are he will become Brennus' vassal.
Osaka looks badly placed for us to keep the city after its capture. So the best choice I think I have is to raze it and then take Toku as a vassal on the first turn.
Yeah, that is the way to go. We are already almost twice as powerful as Mehmed, so the war should go quick. WW is a real drain to our economy, so ending the war with Toku sooner than later is a good thing to do. And we surely don't want him vassalizing to Brennus as the Celts are more powerful than us and we don't want a war with him (but maybe we could invite him to smack Mehmed...?) And after that we'll the Ottomans ! I think the Venerable Bede (and his War Horse Academy) is the right player for that !
