I know I said I'd play, but I locked myself out last night and had to stay with a friend. After 24 hours or so playing "survivor', I'm not in any mood to play. If someone wants to take it before tomorrow (18 hrs or so), do so.

Whipped the theatre in Evora

246
Cathy's stack is still wandering around near the Russian/German border. :scared:

247
It seems she is bypassing the fort, and to make bad news worse, Zara chimes in with this.
Civ4ScreenShot0030-1.jpg

The GG is attached to a chariot and given medic 3.

248
The stacks continue to move in. Cathy splits hers so as to... who knows why? I bribe Izzy into war with Zara, as well as pull the axes out of the fort and back to Lakamha.

249
Machinery > HR for jumbos

250
Zara starts bombarding Lakamha. Cathy is dithering around with her stack.

251
HR > paper. I'm still kind of in the dark wrt techs. Where are we headed? In any case I set to 0% for axe -> mace upgrades. Lakamha is fully under siege now.
Civ4ScreenShot0031-1.jpg

252
Joao attacks... again: 2 knights, 3 cats, and support. Izzy sends an outdated stack west - goood one, chick.
Civ4ScreenShot0032-2.jpg

253
A lifeline? The AP vote is to stop the war with Cathy. Yes please! In the north, our lb kills a knight.

254
Cathy beats on Lakamha, but we come out on top, with 3 lbs left and the healer. With holkan arriving next turn, we should be ok against Zara's forces, because Cathy is sent packing by the AP vote. I get the feeling she'll be back. Evora, however, falls to Joao's knights. With such a long border, it's hard to know where to reinforce.

255
Zara attacks - pretty ineffectually. His surviving troops are finished off, so the blood bath is over, for now. We need to restock the city, as Cathy's monster stack is still eyeing us off from the border. Izzy's little stack is still alive, but won't be for long. At least it bought us some time. There are one or 2 axes left, but perhaps it's time to turn science back on. Zara and Joao are threats with guilds, eng, and CS, but with less production than the biggest threat: Cathy.
Civ4ScreenShot0033-1.jpg

I'll take a look at the game tonight, but it still sounds ugly. I do agree the borders are to long and narrow. At some point we will need to take out Portugal to greatly shorten the borders.

New Updates
These wars are getting tiresome. We have no choice at this time but to continue in war mode. I suspect Cathy will be back soon enough.

We still need 62 turns for our prophet, and Angkor Wat is still 11 turns away. These wars are killing us.

Looking at the game more I am convinced we need to hit Zara, rather then Joao. If we can grab the 3 cities below our borders barely change, but Zara will become a non-player. Our number one goal needs to be shorter borders, or we could still lose this one. Cathy is still a very serious threat.

:bump:

Approaching 48 hours for Kodii.

Sorry for the delay. I've been ridiculously busy. I think I'm actually going to have to request a swap, sorry. The soonest I can get to it is Saturday.

I have it for Friday - to tired to play tonight.

1100 AD
I hate having science turned off, but it will continue to stay off until every axe is upgraded. I expect more war problems, and need every unit optimal.

I would like horses, but I have nothing to offer Izzy. I hope that eventually Corinth will steal horses from Portugal, or Sparta from Spain.

I change research to pikes, as we need to continue to improve the military.

1110 AD
We need to work worker paths. Workers that were on go to pass in range of Evora, and we can't afford to lose anymore.

1120 AD
:wallbash: Izzy just completed Angkor Wat. :wallbash:
All the frelling wars just delayed our prophet big time.

1140 AD
The only good thing from losing Angkor is we got enough cash to finish the axe upgrade cycle. I turn the slider back up.

1150 AD
Zara will talk peace, the question is when is the time right.

1170 AD
(IT) Frederick saves us 6 turns on pikes, for philosophy.

1180 AD
We gain another GG that will be merged into Chichen.
I don't want to deal with Zara's attack, so I take his map and $100 to end the war.

1200 AD
We have recovered Evora.

1210 AD
(IT) UGG - we get a vote to stop the war with Joao. Of course, I vote no.

1220 AD
(IT) This almost feels abusive, but I take Joao's $310 for peace. I just heard the war horns, and can see have of a peace message.
I was right the war horns were the AP vote to end the war.

1240 AD
(IT) Cathy demands incense, and gets it to have 10 turns of peace.

New Updates
I've changed my mind on first targets, and want to take out Portugal's holding on the continent. I didn't think about the fact that it gets us even more happy points (Norte Dame), a little more trade (Great Lighthouse), and the Hindu shrine (#1 religion in the world).
I am building up troops for another push at Joao in around 30 turns.

Lakamha intentionally has citizens, as I don't want that city to grow and hire specialists.

Despite all peace for the moment, IMHO we still need to stay in military mode. I have no question another war is on the way.

Please get Hindu to our capitol, and build a third temple. I want to hire another priest.

IBT - Zara founds Islam

T2 1260AD - We get the pesky slave revolt event

T3 1265AD - Guilds is in and Knight production is begun; I select Gunpowder, considering we're going militarily now

IBT - Izzy and Zara make peace

T13 1315AD - Gunpowder is in; I select Chemistry next, but we can reconsider

Joao has Gunpowder, and I don't think we need to delay another turnset to declare war on him.

Here is our stack:

New Updates
I was wondering how Kodii made the comment about building knights, when I had no horses during my turn. I can't believe we already stole the Spanish horse tile. :)

20 turns for our Taoist prophet isn't bad. What is crazy is we can use two prophets, as we also have the Confucian holy city. Do we want a 4th temple in Mutal to speed up another prophet? Maybe our economy can finally get above 50%.

Kodii must have spread the word of god well, as we now have just 1 city missing Taoism.
We only need one more city Hindu, to have better influence on the AP voting. :)
The only religion issue is we are Buddhist to please Izzy, but multiple cities lack it.

In case you didn't catch the comments for win type, I see this as a domination win.
Based on this, I am not worried about the tech cap. I am worried about optimal troops. Therefore, I would give Frederick gunpowder to gain theology and banking.
With this I would have Uxmal build all three income multiplier buildings in anticipation of a shrine.

I agree with a war against Portugal with 2 conditions:
1) We start improving the number of troops at Lakamha. Cathy *will* be back, and our defense isn't that strong for what Cathy stack was.
2) At least one of our top 6 shield heavy cities works on non-military. For the moment Sparta qualifies as that city, but it is building the last needed Hindu missionary. I am thinking additional monasteries, and grocers in the high income cities.

The game is starting to feel better, but we still have a lot of work ahead of us. The first step is Portugal with all those yummy wonders and shrine.

Let's talk civics - I want theology for the civic to have all units with 2 promotions to start. Do we want merc? We don't have a lot of trading partners, and as we get larger it helps our enemies more then us.

You DO realize that we have horses beside Lakamha? :)

You DO realize that we have horses beside Lakamha? :)

Yes, but they were pillaged to death and no way to safely reconnect with Cathy and Zara coming our way.
