LK22 - Always War - Iroqoius

Gotag

That is an understatement!

My turn is almost done, and ZERO leaders.
I actually started SunTzu manually as a fall back -
I know enough from LK21 that it is a CRITICAL wonder for allways war.

Well, while I try to get WinBlow XP installed on my desktop computer....

(0) 1160 AD - Stress growth in Cattaragus.
Switch nf to settler - we
(I) I see we need a leader badly - SunTzu, a critical wonder for always war is available.

(1) 1170 AD - Did I waste all of my luck? Two catapults in a row hit.
Our troops do well by Nimrud - kill 3, lose 0, then retreat out of range.
(I) England does a very good job of committing suicide at St. Regis.
Our troops did drop to 1 and 2 hp.

(2) 1180 AD - We get $25 for destroying a barb camp next to gloucester.
Hopeing the Babylon SoD moves the right direction so that we can destroy it.
(I) Well, I am very glad St. Regis has a barracks...
Several Indian / England troops again commit suicide there.

(3) 1190 AD - The bab reform Ellipi before my settler can even reach the area :(
We attack Gloucester, but the city autorazes. It was a good spot to capture.
(I) Question: How many units does it take to kill 1 unit in St. Regis
Answer: Who knows, it hasn't happened yet.

(4) 1200 AD - We kill a Persian marine by Oil Springs.
We continue to dance with the Babylon SoD - come on guys - get 1 away from my stack of mw :satan:
(I) Persia wants peace - they have Theology - but them won't gives us all of there cities...
Oh well Xeres, to bad you are insulted by the deal.
Still don't know the answer for St. Regis.

(5) 1210 AD - Babylon shouldn't ignore our mw SoD.
We raze Zamua, capture 1 worker, +3 as the city razing bonus.
(I) Babylon would be insulated since we want 16 cities from them.
The war continues.
It is getting boring talking about AI suicide at St. Regis.

(6) 1220 AD - Well our units are worn out (many at 1 hp), but the Babylon Sod by Nimrud lost 3 bowman, 3 swordsman.
We gained another elite, lost 1 mw.
Would a leader be to much to ask for?

(7) 1230 AD - Our northern mw SoD continues to be ignored.
Sippar is razed - gain 3 workers, 1 catapult.
Moving near Zariqum resulted in an immediate retreat - several swordsman showed up near our mw.
All of the Babylon units are down south?
The remains of the Babylon SoD are wiped out.
Would a leader be to much to ask for? - we have plenty of competition for that wonder.
(I) We get something different this time - the biggie is Persia committing suicide at Steve's

(8) 1240 AD - Again an elite attacks an NO leader.
Ellipi is a mere size 1, we decide to capture it :)
Akwesasne is formed - same exact spot that the English city was destroyed.
Another small SoD by Nimrud, I really think all of the troops are down south,
so let's keep destroying the north.
With our leader drought I start SunTzu in Salamanca - this wonder is to critical to lose.

(9) 1250 AD - We generate some new elite troops - can we get a leader sometime soon?
(I) Babylon starts Sistine - THANK YOU, waste a city on useless production.

(10) 1255 AD - What the??? The lone Aztec city is the CAPITAL!
Contact with Aztec may be a good thing!
We RAZE Nimrud - I know there is a nearby SoD.
Still, it is another destroyed Babylon city.
What do you know, Izibia is close to Ellipi.
Keeping would be suicide, but scratch another Babylon City.
We get 2 catapults, 2 workers from it.
WE KNOW WHERE THE CAPITAL IS!
Just watch attacking, river around the city.
[dance]There was a settler by Babylon - 2 more workers

Leader Goal - SunTzu, free barracks are CRITICAL in an always war game.

Summary - We have several captured workers and Catapults near Babylon
GET THEM HOME!
Retreat from Babylon for now, The troops need some healing time.
I kill a but on strays, but don't lose our troops

I wonder if Babylon burned themselve out when the took Eridu?
They have been a joke for me.

Continue the push to kill Babylon. This is our only path to victory.

All of the new MW need to head toward Grand River area
The AI have changed direction

Keep Science at ZERO. I don't want to speed up the appearance of War Elephants.

Despite all the damage I did, Babylon still has 12 cities.
Compared to Babylon we have a strong military :) :) :) :)

You asked for a great Leader, we got it! We now have Sun Tzus.
Now to kill some more Babs...

:)

(0) 1255 AD Everything looks good. Will move the MW's toward Grand Rapids.

(1) 1260 AD Several English swordsman impale themselves on St Regis pikeman. No leader yet. Bab Swords pick off a couple of our injured MW's before I could move them. I'll pay themback for that! Move MWs back into the cities to heal.

(2) 1265 AD Take Bab swordsman with Mw we win. Attack Bab bowman with MW near Mauch Chunk, we win again. More Imortals impale themselves on Grand River Pikeman. Sending two healed stacks of MW's north we'll cross the river and then attack Zariqum. Moved injured MW's into cities to heal. Fortify Grand River with another pikeman.

(3) 1270 AD Take out Indian swordsman stack near Salmanaca. Move MWs into position to attack Bab city of Requirm. English swordsman attack ST Regis, Shandoah emerges! I send him to Sal to rush Sun Tzu's. It will be completed next turn.

(4) 1275 AD Ten Bab swordsman come out of now where and kill three MWs near Requirm. One swordsman dies. Our Cats can't seem to hit anything this turn, 4 shots 4 misses. Our MWs take out 3 stacks of Bab swordsman and bowman we lose 2. Two stacks of Babs near Mauch Chunck are destoryed we loose one MW.

(5) 1280 AD Bab swordsman killed near Mauch Chunck no losses. We lose another Mw to Bab swordsmem At Requirm, I am going to pull back and rethink war plans there, everytime I get close stacks of swordsman appear. I think I need to add some pikemen to our stacks. Groups of Immortals and English swordsman are pouring in to southern territory. Bypassing Grand River. May need to bolster defenses in our interior cities. We are still looking all right we killed a lot of Babs this turn, they should soon be out of gas.

Sorry only had time for 5 turns tonight still took 1.5 hrs. Good luck to the next leader.

Garsonga

@Garsonga
I will warn you, this turn will be getting longer.
Why are we MINING plains?
We are nowhere close to rails, so you are crippling our city growth.

@Jersey Joe -
Please cancel all of this plains mining, we don't need it anytime soon
Wake the Pikeman by Steve's and put him in the town. We have 7 immortals vs. just 2 pikeman

We need MW heading toward the Persia / England / India troop stacks. We can't afford to start having our improvements pillaged.

It is research time - start researching Chivalry, we can't afford to wait any longer. Mw vs. Pikeman isn't fun

@ALL - We now have a ROMAN city on our landmass - this continues to get nasty.

Sorry I missed your post Lee. I did get the Pikeman into Steve's.

I did not stop the plains mining, but they all finsihed quickly.

Wish I had known about researching, I had a tax collector in Salamanca, could just as well have been a scientist.

I did not see the Babs using any pikemen.

We now have a strong military compared to the Babs and the Persians and are average compared to India and England.

1280AD preturn -- Drop Lux to zero, Put a taxman in Salamanca to keep them from rioting, :crazyeye: getting 15 shields/turn so can build either Pike or MW in 2 turns.
I capture a brit catepult, Wonder how it got there?

(I) 9 Immortals prove they are not on the walls of Steve's.

1285AD I notice that Rome has built a city next to the Aztec. We have not met them yet, just a heads-up.

The English are nice enough to send a spear/settler team next to Steve's, the result ... 2 English workers added to labor pool.

(I) The English and Persians continue to impale themselves on the walls of St. R, GR and Steve's.

1290AD In a skirmish by Zarigan the GL Cornplanter appears.
Once again the English have founded Glouchester and once again we over run it :)

(I) More English, Persians and Indians die on our walls.

1295AD Lee's favorite GL, Cornpone :D build's the Sistine chapel at Oil Springs.

(I) More English, Persians and Indians die on our walls.

1300AD We capture Zariqum and raze it ... 3 Bab workers added to labor pool.
The fine Iroquois Town of East Shore is founded.

(I) Watch more English, Persians and Indians die on our walls.

1305AD Regrouping troops after Zariqum. moving toward Kish. Killing enemy troops where I will not leave a MW exposed to counter attack.

(I) Watch more English, Persians and Indians die on our walls.

1310AD A victory at GR gives us the GL Tecumseh, he goes to St. Regis and rushes a harbor there.

(I) We wonder if the walls of St R, GR, and Steve's are painted red or just bloodstained as more English, Persians and Indians die on the walls.
Babs moving bowmen and swordsmen through woods near Ellipi.

1315AD We lose 2 MW's capturing Kish. Kish is razed ... 6 more Bab workers in the labor pool.

Fighting at Steve's gives us Red Cloud, he builds a courthouse at Steve's.
Another victory at Steve's and another GL ... Sitting Bull moves to River Bend.

(I) Same old same old. Babs still in woods west of Ellipi and on mountains, looks like Mauch Chunk is thier destination.

1320AD Sitting Bull builds a market at River Bend. Troops pulled back from site of Kish to heal.
Some MW's dispatched to Mauch Chunk.

(I) Normal death around the southern towns. 4 Bab swordmen leave the woods and mountains and stand around on the grassland close to Mauch Chunk

1325AD MW's at Mauch Chunk :hammer: Bab swordsmen. Also some fighting around Ellipi.

(I) Liz wants peace but she refuses to surrender her 18 cities and become our slave so the war goes on.

1330AD Troops healing etc. Some fighting in the south. A couple of Persians look like they may by pass our southern cities and ravage our lands. I position a couple of MW's to attack them if they leave the mountains.

A settler is on his way north from Tonawanda to found a new town. I figure right where I have all the MW's standing healing at the river would be good.

The Bab workers I captured up there are working to improve the wheat just north of the River.

Added after reading Lee's post:
You might want to change the tax collector in Salamanca to a Scientist and start researching Chivalry. If it would help cut down on the time, you can make a citizen of St. Regis into a scientist. St. Regis is not a real productive city so a specialist is not going to hurt.

I was running zero luxury, zero science, so we could go pretty high if you want to get Chivalry fast.

I would almost say that Engineering might be more important.
A few times I was not careful about where the rivers where and lost a turn moving MW's in and out of GR, Steve's, and Salamanca.

Here it is: Always War

Leader Frenzy!
If I read correctly from leaders:
Sistine
Harbor
Courthouse
Marketplace
This is a key part of always war - lots of free shields from leaders.

I noticed another round of free labor from Babylon:)
I enjoyed that on my 10 rounds also.

Garsonga's suggetion of traveling with pikemen helped a great deal. I tried always to have pike nearby to cover MW's that attacked. I only lost 2 MW's after attack's because they were left unsupported.

Also, maybe the 2 catapults in Salamanca should be moved into GR. I saw many Persians/English retreat after getting hurt by cats.

At some point we will want more armies.
I don't see our next army until Knights.
The ultimate leader goal is to build the Military academy, and keep 100% of the leaders for buildings / wonders.
An army could get built when the leader only nearby cities is NOT is a good position for building rushing. We could have an empty army waiting for the arrival of knights.

Actually, buildings are a very good use of leaders.
One of the problems with always war is that you can't afford to tie up many cities on infastructure. Build an instant building, and you can get right back on military.
I love rushing an instant factory like happened a lot in LK21

Preturn:
Science at 60%, still making 41gpt. Chivalry in 11 turns. 2415 gold in the treasury.

Tonawanda is building a courthouse. I'm not sure its necessary but I leave it. Eridu has 18

turns to get a marketplace. Do we want to be building this in a front line city? Veto, I

change to Pikeman.

(I)No AI attacks, just shuffling of units.

(1)1335:
Troop movement. Killed a Persian sword in the mountains. Not much to report.

(I) Large troop movements towards Steves. A St Regis Pike dies, taking 2 Indian swords with

it.

(2)1340:
Attack Babylon with a stack of MW. No losses, heavy injury but killed 1 defending Bow and

injured 2 others. Tyendenaga founded.

(I)All quiet.

(3)1345:
Some success in battles. A couple of Persian so-called Immortals dead.

(I)One attack on St Regis. Wimps.. A Persian SoD moves next to Steves.

(4)1350:
Lagash is razed! 3 new slaves.

(I)A SoD melts against Steves walls. 2 unprotected MW lost.

(5)1355:
Sippar razed! Attack on Uruk results in heavy injury but defender down to 1 hp. (Missed it

by 'that' much)

(I) GL Shenandoah from an attack in Bab territory. Problem is, how to get him out..
A Persian spear takes 2 workers. didnt see it..

(6)1360:
A MW gets revenge on the Pike but cant recover the workers. Shen rushes a Marketplace in

Ellipi. We capture a settler to make up for the lost workers.

(I)A sword actually manages to kill a St Regis Pike. a Bab SoD is building in the east near

EastCoast.

(7)1365:
We capture English slaves!

(8)1370:
Quiet turn. Chivalry in 2 turns. A gift for my successor.

(9)1375:
Settler built in Alleghany.

(10)1380: We get Knights! A few MW upgraded. taxes set to 6.4.

You guys seem to be doing well after a very tough start. :goodjob: But I'm afraid that you will have the same scenario as in LK21 whereby contact will be made with another continent soon, jumping all your opponents up into the industrial age. Let's hope that that doesn't happen... :(

Actually, this is another reason why I suggested getting science going. We are strong enough economy wise now to afford to research, and it will take TOO long to milk a couple of more techs out of the GL.

With a Roman city on our land mass - It is only a matter of time to the rest of them meet.

Well finish in a few hours, and I will get my turn done today.

Keep the beatup of Babylon going. I don't know how much longer then can afford to lose cities every round ;)
