LK26 - World Map

@D9phoenix

Monarchy could means lots of money as well since there is free unit support. It give loads of money when you have a number of big cities. ;) Republic is only good if you have lots of luxury items.

Did not get to play much had t-storms in area.

260AD (no preturn) -- Egypt, Greece & India know about Americans they each want about the same 150 gold + WM (before negotiation). Before paying for contact, I let the galley sail east and spot an American Warrior. [dance]

At this point the combined treasures for the 13 civs we now know of is only 205 gold. :(

Trade WM to France, India, Egypt, Greece, Russia, Persia, Rome for total of 183 gold & their WM's

Monarcy to America for Contact with Aztec + 3 gold
Monarcy to Aztec for Contact with Iroquois + 15 gold
Monarcy to Iroquois for TM + 126 gold

Contact with Aztec to France for 5 gpt.

Contact with Iroquois to Gremany for Theology + 2 gold

Except for 17 bars of gold (spread between 4 civs) we have all the gold in the world

(I) Rome wants us to join an alliance vs India. I refuse.
Greeks begin work on Sistine.

We are now a Republic :)

270AD Embassies established with:
America - Washington size 4; 2 entertainers; building sowrdsman
Iroquois - Salamanca size 6; (might need an aqueduct) building swordsman
Aztec - Tenochtitlin size 3; building jaguar warrior

Trade Feudilism to Russia for Horses + 6 gold + WM
No one has much gold so will wait another turn before trading contact again. Several civs lack contact but they also lack gold.

Switch Broome & Brisbane to horsemen. Adelaide barracks comes on line next turn and will start horsemen there.
Perth will stick with building defense for settlers & updating our towns that have warriors as MP.

** to be continued **

So do we still need a wm of the American continent?

I love seeing the fact that we already have embassies with the American continent :)

Congrats on the galley finding the Americans saving us $150 [party]

I like the price for Theology. I wish we could get a lot of tech that way.

I think we will need to start some marketplaces soon. Maybe we cash rush a couple in cities that will be concentrating on troops.

WM trader continues to be quite profitable. I still love Joanie - on of the few civs that I can count on for gpt.

We need to get the Aztec map of S. America. We should have it in a few turns but I think I will try and trade our WM around before getting that piece of puzzle to make WM more valuable subsequent trade around :)

I still love Joanie - on of the few civs that I can count on for gpt.
Yeap, she offered the 5 gpt (but would not agree to 6 gpt) trade and was only one that would even consider a gpt. It is also nice that she is far away and we will not have to go to war with France any time soon.

Question about how to go about settling the rest of Australia: Right now 3 settlers are moving into postion to lock up more coast. I assume we want to spread these southern cities out (5 to 7 tiles apart depending on resources) to keep down the number we build in the south; since they are far away from the capital and keeping number of cities down will help keep corruption low.

JJ - I love your trading instincts. Better, I love the rest of the world having $17 at one point.

On the cities - this is a HUGH map. I corrected the screw-up from Marla with optimal cities at tiny size of 6. We won't hit optimal cities until we are past Australia. At this point they don't need to be tightly packed. Position to take good tiles is more important - I think we have another double fish village, and a heavy game village. After that finish the rest of the coast, and a few cities to eventually claim the entire desert. Some desert wastage is OK - this won't be great cities until rails. However, we don't want the AI landing to claim the desert. Plus even the desert cities continue the path to domination ;)

@All - We obviously have some trading routes now. Please let me know if we get any workers. I want confirmation D9Phoneix theory is right.

BTW, Lee, it got stuck at Goolong on the city list. It didn't roll-over or try anything else. We will have to pick our own city name from here on out. Something you like to do anyway.

Austrialia - V2 will feature a shorter list of city names.

I am still baffled on the worker trading issue.
I strarted another test. I *COULD* trade a worker with someone on my same continent.

I didn't break worker trading with the mod.
However, my test in LK26 with a valid trade route to egypt I still could NOT get a worker!

WORKER TRADING ANSWER -
In order to trade workers - you must both have a city on the SAME land mass. You don't even require a harbor! Simply a presence!

Worker purchase are very important - our #1 goal - a city ANYWHERE in Asia.

I played a couple of dummy turns - build a city in Asia - TRADEABLE WORKERS [dance].

270AD ** Continued **
Switch Canberra to a market.

Several civs now have contact with all 3 american civs so ...
Sell WM again net about 100 gold.
Trade contacts to Amercia, Iroquois & Aztec for their WM's and all their gold.

280AD Perth outfits a Pike starts another.
Adelaide builds barracks starts spear (not on road net yet)
Darwin outfits a work party starts market.
Derby outfits a work party starts market.
Newcastle finishes Harbor starts on worker.
Try and found Geelong and told that the name is not unique.
Cannot Be Geelong founded :crazyeye:

Chinese know Education. It will be interesting to see ihow many civs get education next turn. Right now they are all broke, and they all just got Theology somehow.

I did not see any workers for sale.

290AD Melbourne outfits a worker and starts a granary.
Brisbane outfits a Horseman and starts another.
Another round of WM selling nets us about 150 gold.

France knows Engineering, Joan wants 431 gold + 13 gpt for it (I did not negotiate just asked). To bad the other civs are broke, will just have to wait.

Trade Theology to Rome for Wine. (Can drop luxury tax 10% with some MM this generates an additional 17 gpt)

(I) Several civs start Sun Tzu's

300AD Newcastle outfits worker starts on Market.
Bathust builds temple starts worker.
Hurry harbor in Silk Passage.
No trades, no workers availible.

310AD Silk Passage builds harbor starts on temple.
Sidney outfits settler starts settler.
Destroy barb camp + 25 gold.
Geelong renamed Geelonga. Geelong founded on an island.
Adelaide swithced to market.

320AD No workers availible. However 3 techs are.
Trade RoP + WM +370 gold + 18 GPT to Germany for Education.
trade Education to Joan for Engineering & Chivalry + WM + 17 gold
Try to trade with all other civs but they either have the techs or are to cheap to pay anything for them.
Sell WM as I look to tade tech but only a few times and only get about 40 gold.

330AD Perth outfits Pike starts on Market.
Freemantle outfits Settler starts another.
Barhurst outfits a worker starts on Market.
I do not go through all civs but WM seems to have lost its value. Guess we need to wait a few turns. No workers for sale.

340AD Nothing exciting happend. No trading. No workers for sale, though I did not look at all civs.

350AD drop a settler/spear off on an island. Another settler reaches southern tip of Australia, he is standing where I think a city should be built.

I took meldor's suggestion :goodjob: of landing a spear before the settler and an exciting battle took place on the island just north of the city of Bailarat.
Our spearman defended himself against a barbarian horde killing 8 of 'em before he himself died. I had left the settler on the galley so that is why there is no spearman with him. You might consider settling on the northern tip of the island with Bailarat on it.

There is a settler/pike pair in Freemantle and a galley I just put in there to heal.

A pikeman is heading to Sydney where a settler will finish next turn. A galley is there waiting.

I did not do trading/diplo this turn.

Here it is: Australian Domination

Dark Sheer (playing) - get the city on Asia so that we can start to buy workers
D9phoenix (on deck)

@Jersey Joe - gpt for tech. Could we have waited? You usually get a better deal for straight cash.

@All - world map value depends on finding NEW squares. If our ships locate something new, then we get more for wm.

@All - repeating what I found out - to trade workers both civs must have a city on the same land mass.

@Dark Sheer - check the land mass below Point's East.
Please get me a setter / pike heading toward ASIA!
FYI - WM has value again! Go trading before moving. $13 from the Zulu alone.

440AD(9) - Mainly management of workers.
450AD(10) - Perth completed marketplace and ordering Pikeman. Broome completed Knight and ordering marketplace. Ballarat riot! Another entertainer added. France wanted Printing Press +600gp. We have 1589gp. I will leave to the next player to decide.

Our galley with settler and pike is now near Singapore and the Asian town can be founded within the next few turns. Another galley with settler pair is heading towards the Sulawesi island just below Borneo. A settler is coming online at both Sydney and Freemantle next turn and a galley is waiting at both Sydney and Melbourne.

Here is the savegame.

ok got it, should finish up sometime today.

You are right.

I was seduced by the thought of getting Education, being able to trade that to other Civs with the expectation of getting both Engineering & Chivalry, and getting back at least some of the gold.

@Dark Sheer - why did we trading forPrinting Press ? We DON'T plan on Democracy. Could we have gotten Astronomy from Egypt?

@D9phoenix - Probably to late, but ...
On Astronomy - BUY IT NOW - From France! France cost a little more, but I don't want India or China to get any money from us. Our attack into Asia will come through India or China. Why let them possible upgrade units?

@ALL - See why I am pushing map trading?

treasury at 1503gp +165gpt, scientist is in South Western Port atm. Navigation in 35 turns

LK26 550AD

P.S. Map trading didn't go all that well during my turns. Most of the civ's where completly broke 90% of the time (my thoughts here lead to tributes being payed to certain civ's as the same ones over and over where the only one's with money/techs)

LK: China and india were no problem and i doubt they will be for alittle while still. They both have room to expand some and *where* at war with each other.

(0) 550AD - Change Fish Village to walls - India worries me.
Change Dye Town to to walls - and Rush them.
Rush library in Silk Passage - enough near by cities - maybe we can flip on.
Change Adelaide from library to cathedral - we aren't researching.
Freemantle / Melbourne to settler - use the cities strength.
Wake Pikeman by Townsville on ship - send to townsville - NO DEFENSE!
I agree with D9 - Rush harbor in Ballarat - my reason may be different - I want iron to sell.
Perth to pikeman - doesn't grow fast.
Rush Brisbane aqueduct - we need more cities on military production.

Banking is avaibable, but not enough civs have it.
Cash is burned down - where can I make some money?
How about $214 for wm ;) I love double-dip map trading. Get up to Russia, then show Greenland, start at the top, resell for more money, after done learn a bit more, start at the stop - triple dip trading with some civs. WM selling on hugh maps is

great.
(I) Brisbase - Harbor (vet ships), Perth - Pikeman, Ballarat - worker, faster Iron connection
Silk - Barracks, Dye Town - Barracks
More civs to Leo's, Sun Tzu - I hope they break before Smith's

(1) 560 AD - Lonely island formed.
Fish village rushes walls.
Quick diplo - no workers, nobody new for banking.
(I) India / China peace treaty.
Melboure / Syndey - Pike (not enough settler escorts).
Bathurst, Derby barracks - no non-vet troops.
Fishing village - barracks.

(2) 570 AD - Mainland cities continue to payoff - I snag a greek worker for $24, wm.
Map trading has us ahead by $49 after the cost of the worker.
I know how to trade maps now - Russia / Aztecs first. Russia exploring greenland, Aztec exploring the Atlantic.
Silk Passage, Dyetown rush barracks.
(I)Canbarra - pikeman, freemantle - settler, silk - pikeman (and upgrade current spearman)
Dye Town - Pikeman (these mainland cities are critical as a future jumping point)
Germany completes Sun Tzu - I would have prefered it in Asia, but the cascade may break before Smith's.
Massive cascade - ALL Leo's

(3) 580 AD - Gunpowder has shown up - most of the civs with banking except India.
"Only" $50 for wm, still 1/3 of our per turn revenue.
Haggle Joanie to $735 for Gunpower. I then give India gunpowder and $50 for banking.
Thank you India for being slow on Gunpowder - we are almost broke, but $785 for 2 techs is about as good as we will get.
Canberra to bank.
I put us broke, and rush barracks in Fish Village.
(I)Perth - Pikeman, NewCastle - Pikeman, Ballrat - Barracks
Fish Village - Harbor
More cascades to Leo's
France complete Leo's. - The cascade BREAKS - we may get Smith's.
The game pisses me off sometimes - our token scientist for Navigation disappeared.

(4) 590 AD - Switch Freemantle to temple - we can afford a temp break from settler production.
Final Coast is formed - temple ordered - the only purpose of this city is border locking.
Cathy must have 2 ships checking out Greenland.
The tech race is moving at an absurd pace - Democracy is showing up.
I really screwed up with Australia - we have no SaltPeter
HtH can we achieve domination without SaltPeter or Horses?

RoP to the Aztecs to clear out there $38 in gold.
ARGGGGGGGGGG - Rome no longer has excess Horses!
OUCH - I missed $18/turn to Germany for RoP - must have been a leftover from deal - CANCELLED.
~$50 for wm, after paying Russia $7 for there map. The Russia exploration of Greenland is working well for us.
(I) Toowomba - another worker.
BLAST - Cascade to Bach's? America starts it.
Our pike laughs a barb horseman.

(5) 600 AD - I give Amercia an Even Trade of Banking for Music Theory - why not?
I can't believe what a bust the Zulu are this time - usually there are one of the tech leaders.
I give Germany a new RoP taking $38 from them.
Not a killer deal, but banking to Greece for $92, wm, WORKER - besides, I don't like any ai civ having cash ;)
Well our cash is already back to $616, not bad considering it was about $10 at the end of 580 AD.
(I) Syndey - Pikeman (we already have settlers waiting for ships),
Melboure - Pikeman, Townville - Aquaduct
Move civs start Bach.

(6) 610 AD - I don't know how the babs got some cash, but I give them a RoP for $21.
China has over $1000 in cash - I need to figure a way to get cash from him!
Getting the Russian map first continues to pay.
(I) Brisbane - caravel, Perth - Pikeman.

(7) 620 AD - More spices is formed - harbor is ordered.
Getting Russian maps first continues to pay, another round of $50 for map. I have been getting at least this much EVERY round!
(I) More civs to bach.

(8) 630 AD - I love islands is formed - temple ordered to claim the whales.
It's now Geelong is formed - worker ordered - fast growth from fish.
[party] Our galley has spotted another island with a lot of sea - new city spot AND helps wm value.
First time in ages - the zulu HAD some cash, Japan HAD some cash.
Another worker - $13, wm to Babylon.
China is BROKE - where did all that cash go?
We are ahead $65 thanks to wm, after buying the worker.
I hurry Geelong harbor - Iron will connect next turn.
(I) Sydney - settler, Melbourne - pikeman, bathurst - pikeman,
Silk Passage - cathedral - good chance to flip a japan city.
Geelong - Barracks

(9) 640 AD - The extra capicity of Caravels is nice - I am starting to send a worker with the Pikeman / settler pair.
$80 for wm this round - it is time consuming, but it is worth it.
(I) Broome, Brisbane - Bank (wall street some day),
Derby, Perth - Pike
New Castle - worker (with 7 extra food won't notice the difference)
Cannot Be Goolong - Harbor
More civs to Bach

(10) 650 AD - Even more iron is formed - orders worker.
RoP to Greece for $44, $5/turn!
Tell the Zulu to build a harbor - they want our Iron!
~$100 for wm.
[dance] RoP, Iron, $21/turn to Egypt for Horses, SaltPeter [dance]
So much for extra cash - 11 pikeman upgrade for $660, 1 horsemman to knight.
After upgrading we are weak ONLY to China, Strong compared to several civs.

-------------------------------------------------

Summary - I already have our first military target - JAPAN - small, behind in tech, and Iron / Coal on the main continent.
However, we aren't there yet.

Send the galley by Spain into the Atlantic.

We are getting loaded in cash - $2000 is enough to insure Wall Street interest and buy a tech.
Once we are above $2000 - start rushing like crazy.

:) Those Asian towns are really paying - I got multiple workers.

I got rid of most of our warriors - the few left are fog busting central Australia.

Connect iron in Ballarat - you never know.
Connect the spices in More spices - somebody will want it.

DON'T BY OR TRADE FOR DEMOCRACY - IT IS WORTHLESS FOR US!

Our pikes are heading toward cities with barracks for upgrades - we still need a defending in all coastal cities.

Sell our world map every turn you can - at least do this every other turn. TRADE MAPS WITH RUSSIA first - even if you have to pay Russia, then the rest of the world. Russia is exploring around Greenland.
We can really use the cash boost. Our biggest strength is turning out to be map broker
