LK30 - Regent, city placement training.

IT: Fire Hamburg's entertainer. Switch Leipzig from Forbidden Palace to Colosseum. I don't think putting the FP 1 city south of the capital would be the best place for it, and with its shield production there are better places for wonders if it were a placeholder. New Hamburg switched to library. New Konigsberg switched to library. Taking out pollution, our average demographic rating is 5.5. The only things we are above 6th place in are Approval Rating (3), land area (1), and life expectancy (2). Trade world map around, get a few gold for it. Trade wine to egypt for WM and 20 gold, best anyone could afford.

780 Cancel galley's goto orders.

790 Wake fortified galley outside a french city.

800 settler and warrior board a galley and embark on a long trip to china's southern tundra in an attempt to give us dyes and a foothold on that continent. French worker bought for 25 gold.

870 Bought Education from russia for wines, spices, WM, 120 gold, and 1gpt

930 Invention researched, astronomy selected. I wanted to take banking, but wanted a tech that would allow us to cascade if we needed too, almost took music theory since it was a cheaper tech to learn.

950 Road to iron completed. Trade invention to japan for chivalry.

Decided to only play 18 turns to make turn breaks easier, 20 turns will always end on xx50 now until 1750. Our economy is in shambles. Looks like we will need to trade lux for techs for awhile, and the extra iron outside new berlin, when it is connected. Our demographics are a little better, but barely. Most of my time was just spent moving workers around, trying to make some use out of our lands. Bremen or Salzburg seem like the best places for the FP for now, see if we can get something from those northern cities.
LK30-950AD.zip

Will start playing in few hours. I'll Probably screw things up but how much can one do in ten turns, let us see shall we :)

Reminder to self:
1. Bremen or Salzburg seem like the best places for the FP
2. Don't screw this up you moron

950 AD
Preturn:
Checking things. Some misc. buildings and Sun Tzu's will complete during my turns. Military looks horrible. As for science we are behind and I don't really know what you would want to research next but that won't be my decision since Astronomy is still 30 turns away. 1 Active trade with russia. Traded maps with everyone to gain few coins. I take a step forward.

1. 960 AD
Bonn is not growing and is middle of desert without access to fresh water so I decide to build harbor next to get this shack growing. Now wondering why there was a road but no mine on that silk near Heidelburg. Why mine and work on the square next to it to get the extra shield when you could get the same shield and some extra commerce from the silk square. Berlin isn't growing and sure ain't going to finish that Leonardo's before AI that way but I suspect it to be a placeholder. Cologne has no defence so I grab a spearman from Berlin to defend it. I sure don't want to give AI the impression that we are weak ;). Banging my head against the mast :wallbash: of the galley in south, is it perhaps after the dyes or the furs? Again traded maps to gain some gold and to keep people around us happy. The (not so)great German nation is not ready for war. MM Munich to grow in 19 turns instead of 38 turns and still complete granary in 3 turns. MM Bremen for extra gold (we need everything that we can get) Switched one improved tile from Konigsberg to Cologne for extra commerce. All seems to be in order for next turn.

2. 970 AD
Brandenburg harbor to courthouse. This city is working a mined gold hill tile but not gaining anything because of corruption (next player can switch back if feels it necessary). Traded maps With bunch of people.

3. 980 AD
MM Munich to grow in 12 vs. 17 still getting granary next turn. MM Heidelburg for extra gold. MM Hamburg for one more gold, Sun Tzu still in 2 turns. Rome is broke. Japan had 2 gold so I took half of their treasury for the map :).

4. 990 AD
New Berlin completed Library, start harbor. I really can't think what to do with the galley in north so I leave it be. Our military is weak compared to everyone else but Japan. Tweaked Hamburg for one more gold. Change Bremen from marketplace to Courthouse. (I think it makes more gold in the long run). Stuttgart grows to size 3. Abe now has got Banking and Astronomy  and is also broke. I take rest of Japanese treasury for maps. Cathy and Mao also have Banking & Astronomy. Joan has Astronomy only. Lots of money wasted on astronomy. I don't know if this is wise but I switch research to Printing press. At -8 income? it will take 13 turns. I know It's gambling but I think its better than just sticking with astronomy which still has 13 turns left. If We get this before AI it could buy us the rest of the techs. I hope LKendter will come around and kick me for doing this so I too can learn :). I really hope Sun Tzu's starts GA next turn.

Backwards.jpg

We certainly have a theme going...

5. 1000 AD

SunTzus.jpg

Sun Tzu's complete in Hamburg, started marketplace. Granary complete in Munich, started Pikeman. Mass cascade on Copernicus, Sistine and Leo's. For some reason people sow lawn in front of the palace. I sold wines to French for 4gpt and 67gp (all they had). MM New hamburg for extra commerce which surprisingly gets us Printing Press one turn sooner!

6. 1010 AD
Not much, Traded maps. Joan, Cathy, Abe and Mao now have Music Theory.

7. 1020 AD
Heidelburg completes marketplace, started Aqueduct. Chinese building Bach's. MM Hamburg for extra gold. Switched from marketplace to courthouse in Hannover and Cologne. (Hannover in example has 11 corrupt commerce so I think courthouse completed in 4 turns will eventually get us more gold and science than marketplace in 11 turns)

8. 1030 AD
Konigsberg builds aqueduct, started harbor. Warrior and settler landed next to dyes. MM Leipzig for 2 more gold. Switched Dortmund from temple to harbor.

9. 1040 AD
Joan pops up and offers World map vs. World map + 3gp. No sale. Frankfurt has produced library. Started granary but may change this later to something else. New Frankfurt founded in an insane place between Kahun and New Xinjian and library is ordered. I could have made following deal with Abe but didn't: RoP + 1gpt vs. RoP + 1gp. Would have earned us 19gp, but I didn't want Abe running wild across germany. We now have second iron hooked, but everyone has their own, so no trading is possible and now there's the possibility that our spare iron will "jump".

10. 1050 AD
Two barb galleys try to sink our southern galley promoting it to elite. All hail mighty german navy! :crazyeye: Nothing else worth mentioning happened.

Epilogue.
Cascade will eventually kill Leo's at Berlin. I didn't get start on that FP in 10 turns, but I managed to triple our treasury and squeeze science slider up 10% (if that helps any). There is unused floodplain in the corner of the desert between Stuttgart and Leipzig for no apparent reason. When workers aren't busy mowing that jungle they could sneak irrigation to Bonn from there. Since this is my first attempt at succession gaming, feedback will be appreciated.

LK 30 from 1050 AD

1050 AD (0):Diplo check reveals we are getting smoked in tech. No one will trade. Change Konigsberg to courthouse. Is there a FP site yet? Have I been away that long?

1060 AD (1): Munich builds pike and starts another. Hanover builds courthouse starts university. New Hamburg builds library and starts temple.

1070 AD (2): Leipzig builds university starts pike. MM Berlin and Hamburg to get leo's in 30, not sure we will make it.

IBWN: France completes Leo's :( and the cascade begins.

1080 AD (3): I would change to sistenes but really don't think we have a shot so I opt for an expensive Cathedral and waste 130 sheilds or 10 turns of production.

1090 AD (4): Berlin completes the Cathedral and starts university. The cascade is crazy, too many to keep track of.

1100 AD (5): Bonn builds harbor and starts courthouse. PP next turn.

1110 AD (6): Research Printing Press, start guns. Upgrade a few spear to pikes in the south, Abe has a few archers on the boarder. Trade Cathy PP for Astronomy. Trade Joan spice, pp and 10 gold for guns. Trade cleo wines for 2 worker 6 gold and her maps. We have 1 saltpeter in our boarder but is it not hooked up yet. Banking in 12 with +9 gpt. Sell Abe PP for 11gpt and 40 gold.

1120 AD (7): Munich continues producing pikes, Cologne finishes courthouse starts temple.

1130 AD (8): More worker actions. Move some pikes to get all cities better defense.

1140 AD (9): Jungle clearing continues.

1150 AD (10): Not much to talk about more jungle clearing.

We are still behind in tech by Banking, chemistry and Navigation, Music Theroy but that is not important.

I may have jumped the gun on giving up on Berlin but I really believe that any wonders out of Berlin are off the table, turns out we may have been able to get Cop's but we didn't have the tech yet when I chose to cut our losses. :smoke: maybe will have to wait and see. I really expected, sistene's, Copernicus and even Bach to go in the cascade and I think they still will.

with a few new universities and libraries tech should be easier to get now. Also, we need a FP I think we have to pick an existing city now and go with it. Konisberg could work if we build a courthouse soon and go right to the FP.

This is not going to be getting any easier.

MMed and switched a few cities production. New Frankfurt rushes library. taking a look at f7, I don't think we have a chance for Smith's, there will be too many cascades. I am not sure when everyone started the wonders, so not sure if Berlin will have a placeholder long enough to try for it or not.

1160 New Frankfurt finishes library, begins harbor to bring dyes to Berlin.

1170 Bremin will have a courthouse in 6 turns, for now it looks like the best place for the FP, help with the corruption in the north, and we are in no shape to expand through war.

Russia completes Copernicus's Observatory in Yakutsk. Cascades go to Magellans and Bachs

1190 Change New Frankfurt to worker, clearing forests will more than make up for the time it takes to build the worker, getting the harbor online sooner.

Americans finish Magellan's in New York.

1200 Wine deal with France is up for renewal, but since they only have 6 gold in their treasury, I don't risk trying to up the 4 gpt, in case they can't afford that.

1220 Banking learned, I decide to take a chance on Smiths in Berlin. no one has Economics, but 5 civs are building Bach's and the Sistine Chapel Science upped to 50% -13 gpt, eco in 9, Berlin slows production of Colosseum from 9 to 11 turns.

1230 Bremen completes courthouse, begins Forbidden Palace (40 turns).

1250 I realize I haven't been moving ships, so I go looking for them, and find them fortified. I wake them up and wonder how much gold we lost from them not exploring the blackness and the WM trades I did, which earned a total of 1 gold.

We are not last in tech anymore, but we are still way behind the leaders. Hopefully the cascades end before economics is discovered, if so I don't think anyone can beat us to Smiths. Just make sure to keep the colosseum 1 turn after econ is discovered.
