LK30 - Regent, city placement training.

I may have jumped the gun on giving up on Berlin but I really believe that any wonders out of Berlin are off the table, turns out we may have been able to get Cop's but we didn't have the tech yet when I chose to cut our losses. :smoke: maybe will have to wait and see. I really expected, sistene's, Copernicus and even Bach to go in the cascade and I think they still will.

17 turns have passed, plus the time put into the cathedral, plus the wasted 10 turns, I think we would have snagged a wonder out of berlin. It helps if you look at f7 to see where the wonder is being built by the AI, you can sort of guess at the cities production rate. And sometimes you have to use the cascade to get the wonders that you want if you are trying for one out of the capital, since you can't switch to a palace for a placeholder. Looking back, I should probably have used Sistimes chapel for a place holder instead of a colosseum, I just have too much other stuff on my mind, and didn't want to have the Chapel completed somewhere and have too many shields to get economics before a coloseum was completed. I would welcome any thoughts by LKendter on this subject.

1250 I realize I haven't been moving ships, so I go looking for them, and find them fortified. I wake them up and wonder how much gold we lost from them not exploring the blackness and the WM trades I did, which earned a total of 1 gold.

OUCH! I have had some games where map selling we a big block of my revenue. I am making a mere $10 per turn and add another $5 to $10 just for maps. Keep those galleys exploring.

I generally avoid attempting to build wonders in the capital. If I build a wonder in the capitial, then it has to be the right conditions:
1) Cascade is broken. NO other wonders being built, even a coastal wonder in a junk city.
2) I have a tech lead and the capital is a shield powerhsoue.

Building wonders in the capital is MUCH more difficult, as you can't switch to a palace for a placehodler.

One the choice of where to build the wonder: Hamburg. If you bring up the domestic advisor (sort by sheilds - by click on shields), look who is number 1 in shields.
LAK-197.jpg

Hamburg can switch right now to Palace placeholder (BEFORE FINISH UNIVERSITY). It can improve the amount of shields being built. Take a look at the below image.
LAK-198.jpg

The red underline square that is shared with Berlin can be taken back for 2 more shields, and there is a worker about to give us another. If you want a wonder, this is the city to try with.

I'm sorry but I can't play my turns now. RL demands 24hpd. I'll play after theos if that's OK for the rest of you.

Ack! I'm suddenly swamped by succession game turns (3 out of 3 on the same day!)

I've got it, but won't be done for a while. Should be done within 48 hours though.

Theos's first round

Starting this turn, I wasn't exactly sure what our longterm goals were. Perhaps someone can clarify or we could discuss. From the current development, we seem to be playing a peaceful building game. Maybe a Panzer bid for victory later on, or are we aiming for space? Anyway, I played the turn peaceful-builder style, going for Banks and Wall Street as my main goal.

(0) 1250 AD
Trade with Rome: We buy Chemistry+WM for Printing Press+Banking.
China demands TM+28g. Although we're on separate continents, I'd rather not commit us to war. I give in to his small demand.

(3) 1265 AD
Hannover riots (hey I checked F1 before the end of turn - but I didn't pick it up). Tax collector hired

(4) 1270 AD
Beijing builds JS Bach's. No need to trade for Music Theory from now on. Expecting a cascade to Sistine...

(5) 1275 AD
We discover Economics. Start researching Physics. Americans and Russians start Sistine Chapel.

(6) 1280 AD
Berlin switchs from Colosseum placeholder to Smith's Trading Company. 26 turns to build with max production.
Taxes change to 5.4.1 to start turning a profit again. +11gpt/Physics in 14.

(8) 1290 AD
We can finally afford to rush a harbor at New Frankfurt (132g) to get dyes online.

(9) 1295 AD
Taxes set to 6.4.0 with the new luxury. +32gpt/Physics in 10.

(10) 1300 AD
End. I'd like to play more, but I don't have sufficient time. I'm going to be unavailable from now until Monday, though I hardly think my turn's likely to come up again before then.

For the next player:
  • Many other civs have now got Navigation. Scout around for the best deals on our luxuries.
  • Because of Navigation, some Sistine Chapels are going to cascade to Magellan's. There's little chance of a break in the cascade.

The save game...

Preturn: 0/1300AD

Annoying Russian spearman still camps on german territory. MM Bonn. MM Dortmund for max growth - No effect in production because of corruption. Entertainer hired in Hamburg to prevent disorder. MM New Frankfurt for growth vs. production all extra shields were lost to corruption. Give unused tile from New Hamburg to Hannover for faster growth.

Diplomacy:
RoP with Rome got us 26g + Music Theory. Americans do not have saltpeter. This may turn out to be a :smoke:, maybe even a [pimp] but I sell our only saltpeter to them for Metallurgy + 2gpt. Then sell Metallurgy to rome for 56g + WM (all they had). WM to all for few gold and wines + spices + WM to Russia for 23gpt + 2g.

Trades allowed me to slide science slider up by 20%. Physics in 6 turns, -3gpt.
Ready for turn 1.

1/1305AD:
Between turns Cathy demands our galley to git and Moscow completed Sistine. Cascade is broken. Irrigation reaches Bonn.

2/1310AD:
Caesarlostmarbles.jpg

MM Frankfurt -> Aqueduct in 16 turns vs. 20. Our northern galley has access to northpole. Sailing there could prove profitable in terms of new maps.

3/1315AD:
New Konigsberg finally finishes Spear -> Start harbor. Doh! I forgot polar icecaps do not have coast. My :smoke: may have cost us galley. Science down 10% Physics still in 3 turns (+19gpt).

4/1320AD:
Cologne builds aqueduct -> granary(10). New Berlin harbor -> worker(10) (we need more, Steam Power is getting closer) . New Hamburg borders expand. Jungle whacking continues. Our galley didn't sink . Physics in 1 turn science down to 10% (+125gpt). Abe and Cathy have Physics.

5/1325AD:
We learn Physics. Research set to Military Tradition (60% 8 turns -5gpt). Galley decides to sink.

6/1330AD:
New Hamburg builds aqueduct -> temple & max growth. Tile roulette between Hannover, New Hamburg and Leipzig. Dyes + WM to Abe for 50g + 8gpt. Abe and Cathy have Military Tradition. This is good: Romans have taken San Francisco. Physics to Mao for Navigation + 29g + WM. 16 turns to Smith's and no one else
has economics. Six turns to Military Tradition. I will take Democracy because AI isn't selling it (60% 6 turns +5gpt). Is revolting to democracy immediately worth risking Smith's?

7/1335AD:
Joan wants to trade Democracy for Economics. No sale. New Leipzig borders expand. Science down 10% (+30gpt) Democracy still in 5 turns. Temporarily hire entertainer in New Hamburg. Physics + 89g + WM to Joan for Democracy. I decide to revolt to democracy now. If I wait until Smith's is ready it'll be over 20 turns before we get to democracy. Four turns of anarchy for me.

8/1340AD:
Cleo wants Metallurgy. War is the last thing I need now so let her have it. (I later did check out of curiosity if Cleo would really had declared war on us. She didn't)

9/1345AD:
Economics has lost it's charm in the eyes of american and chinese people so I suspect they will discover it soon. Two turns of anarchy left and 15 turns to Smith's after that. I don't think they will beat us to it so I will sell Economics. Economics to Cathy for Military Tradition + 17gpt +11g. Economics to Abe for 88g + WM. Economics to Mao for 10g (wouldn't pay more). Economics to Caesar for 2gpt + 20g + WM (all he had). Joan was broke. Togu and Cleo are way behind.

10/1350AD:
Caesar wants alliance against americans but instead ends up buying our WM.

11/1355AD:
German democracy has formed. Russians started Smith's. Science 70% magnetism 7 turns +9gpt.

12/1360AD:
Nothing.

13/1365AD:
Science down by 10% Magnetism still in 5 turns, +35gpt.

14/1370AD:
Cathy pops up with WM for WM + 4g deal. I accept. Disorder in Munich :smoke: hire temporary entertainer.

15/1375AD:
Hannover builds Marketplace -> Cathedral(23). Romans building Smith's. Americans building Smith's. MM Dortmund for extra gold.

16/1380AD:
Cologne builds granary -> harbor(5). Hurry temple in New Hamburg to get rid of the entertainer. Russians and Romans have Theory of gravity. Price is too steep.

17/1385AD:
uh-oh.jpg

Things just took a turn to the worse. Chinese riders took New Frankfurt. Nothing our brave warrior could do. Hamburg builds bank -> Pike(4). New Hamburg builds temple -> Pike(10). Romans and Russians are building Newton's. Egypt joins us against Chinese for Navigation. France joins us against Chinese for Economics. Japanese join us against Chinese for Printing Press. Golden age has probably kicked in for the chinese. Japanese have samurais so their golden age will kick in soon. French have their musketeer so they will also be in golden age soon. I hope these three will waste their golden ages pounding each other. Getting Russia, Rome or America involved in this war will be expensive. I don't think America will join Chinese because we have active trades with them. If they do their reputation will be shot so we should not have trouble pushing romans against them.

18/1390AD:
We learn Magnetism -> Theory of gravity 70%, 5 turns +8gpt. Hannover falls to disorder damn I forgot we lost our dyes. New Berlin worker -> worker(10). New Leipzig harbor -> pike(30).

19/1395AD:
Romans, Russians and americans are building Shakespeare's. Switch Munich from Bank to Cathedral(8) to get rid of the entertainer.

20/1400AD:
Hire entertainer in Konigsberg and switch from bank to cathedral(8). Science slider down by 10% Theory of gravity still in 3 turns.

Next player should trade Magnetism before any AI gets their hands on it. Also bunch of deals need renegotiating.

No matter how hard I tried, I could not get that save uploaded so I had to put it in my own server space.

No sign of Shdwlord. I will post got it in, say six hours if Shdwlord doesn't appear before that.

IT: Fire entertainer in Hamburg, Universal Sufferage in 10 instead of 11 turns. Fire entertainers in Frankfurt and New Hamburg. We are first in Pop, GNP, Mfg Goods and land area, but 6th in literacy. We need more libraries/universities. America has 2 of the top 5 cities, I still have no idea how they figure that, I wonder if that would equate to them being slightly stronger in military production at all. Russia and Rome are both at war with us, and neither will talk yet. China doesn't have iron. Spices to France for 5 gpt, they do not have coal, so I trade industrialization for horses, communism and 40 gold. With 2 people at war with us, and the possibility of more, I thought it would be a good idea to have access to police stations. We need 1980 gold to upgrade all of our existing pikemen/spearmen. We are also losing interest by not having 1000 gold. I trade our WM around, and increase the gold to 648, +58 gpt. I decide to increase science to 70%, -2 gpt, Scientific Method in 4 turns instead of 5. Stuttgart switched from rifleman to granary. Berlin switched from rifleman to cavalry. Leipzig and Hannover are our only choices for Hoovers, and Leipzig has far better production.

Japan and Rome sign a trade embargo against us.

1605: Workers improve land.

Americans and French begin Universal suffrage.

1610 Cologne finishes factory, begins cavalry. I wake our fortified galleons to finish exploring the oceans.

1615 Workers increase Leipzig's shield output from 55 to 58 per turn.

1620 Scientific Method researched, Replaceable Parts began. Berlin finishes Cavalry, begins another. Hmmm, slight miscalculation on the price of ToE, Replaceable parts do in 8 turns, ToE in Leipzig due in 7. science to 80%, -60 gpt, RP in 7 turns. Workers sent to clean up pollution.

Chinese begin Universal Suffrage.

1625 Salzburg completes granary, begins aqueduct. New Leipzig completes barracks, begins temple.

1630 Bremen completes Factory, begins granary. Stuttgart completes granary, begins factory. New Konigsberg switched from granary to rifleman and rushed due to an approaching russian frigate/caravel pair.

Russia lands a cossack outside New Konigsberg.

1635 New Konigsberg completes rifleman, begins barracks. Rome will finally talk to us, but they want Scientific method for peace.

Our new rifleman defeats the russian cossack. America and Rome have signed a trade embargo against us.

1640 Berlin completes cavalry, begins another. Cologne completes cavalry, begins another. Bonn completes courthouse, begins a factory.

4 roman cavalry come north through american territory.

1645 Bremen completes granary, begins temple. Hannover completes factory, begins bank. Only 1 of the 4 Roman cavalry are in our territory, the other 3 are still on the american side of the border. I attack, and lose a cavalry, second cavalry dispatches the roman cavalry. Science dropped to 70%, replaceable parts still in 2 turns. Frankfurt reinfoced against the coming roman cavalry charge.

Russia and Egypt sign a peace treaty. Rome loses 5 cavalry, and 2 retreat on their assault on Frankfurt. We lose 2 riflemen, a musketman, and a pikeman.

1650 Universal Suffrage completed in Hamburg. Cavalry began. Heidelburg completes factory, begins library. 6 Roman cavalry eliminated outside Frankfurt.

Rome will now accept peace if you throw in an RoP. I will leave this up to the next player to decide. Might not be a bad idea, War Weariness might start affecting us soon, but they will now be throwing their cavalry against infantry if we have rubber. I tried to minimize the WW as much as I could, by not attacking in America's territory. I was producing cavalry in cities that have a decent level of production and development, while we have horses. Next turn, if we don't touch research, we will get 3 techs. Replaceable parts, and since research happens before tech, ToE comes online and gives us 2 more. I would suggest atomic theory and electronics and build the hoover dam in leipzig. ToE is a scientific wonder, we have already build a militaristic wonder (Sun Tzu's) so it will trigger a golden age too. Sorry about the treasury being so low, but I miscalculated the production time of ToE, and if I hadn't run at a negative income ToE would have been completed when Replaceable Parts had 1 turn left, and we would have gotten that as one of our free techs, and lost electronics.
