LK46, Monarch, 1.21 patch, lazy France variant

Well Mystery13 beats me to the sign of life post. I tend to check at the end of the night.

However, if Despot doesn't post a got it tonight I will be playing tomorrow night.

I haven't start this one yet.
I am finishing up LK49, so go for it.

Get us that golden age and death of Rome. You may want a second uu to insure success.

This is only an update. I am half way through my turns should get them finished by tomorrow night. Sorry for the hold up...

Preturn 1250 AD -
Had to hire a clown in Narbonne so it wouldn't revolt next turn.

IBT-
Russians demanded fine French wine. I told them no way and they backed down.

Our deal with England for Ivory ended so I renewed kicking in 155 GP to keep the deal. I didn't want to have to raise our lux tax. Soon we will have furs in our lands. Eventually we will steal the ivory from England!! :)

English are building Newton's.
The Ottos are building Newton's.
The Ottos are building Magellan's.

Turn 1 1255 AD -
Brest Courthouse->Bank
Palmrya Temple->Barracks
Tours Bank->Library
Taretum Musketeer->Temple

New Marseilles is founded.

IBT-
Rome comes begging for peace.

Turn 2 1260 BC -
Orleans Musketeer->Bank
Lyons Musketeer->Musketeer
Marseilles Cav->Cav
Chatres Cav->Bank
Bordeaux Harbor->Market

New Chatres founded. Furs are online.

Turn 3 1265 AD -
Bayonne Library->Musketeer

Turn 4 1270 AD -
Avignon Bank->Musketeer
Nantes Settler->Settler
Amiens Musketeer->Library
Cherbourg Library->Bank

Battle for Hispalis:
cannon knocks Hispalis to size 6
cannon knocks 1 hp off of a pike.

4/4 Cav vs. 3/3 Pike we win without a scratch and promote.
4/4 Cav vs. 3/3 Pike we win going to 3/4.
3/3 Musketeer vs. 3/4 Pike we win promoting and going to 3/4.
Rome is no more. We gain two last Roman workers and enter into a Golden Age.

I drop lux to 0% and fire all clowns.

IBT
Russians build Bach's

Turn 5 1275 AD -
Paris Musketeer->University
New Tours Musketeer->Temple
Tarentum Musketeer->Settler

IBT
English build Newton's.

Turn 6 1280 AD -
Poitiers Granary->Market

IBT
We discover Magnetism. I set our sights on Nationalism.

Turn 7 1285 AD -
Besancon Cathedral->Library

Turn 8 1290 AD -
New Paris Temple->Library
Orleans Bank->University
Rheims Bank->Courthouse
Nantes Musketeer->Settler
New Avignon Musketeer->Temple
Grenoble Granary->Marketplace
Amiens Library->Barracks

Turn 9 1295 AD -
Tours Library->Cav
Jerusalem Harbor->Market

I've been checking tech every turn and now everyone one has Free Artistry, Steam Power, and Medicine up on us. When they didn't before guess the Ottomans and Russians got one of those each as freebie's (SP and Med) and passed it around.

Trade Gems, Wine, WM, and 185 GP to Russia for Medicine.
Trade Gems, Wine, WM, and 362 GP to Ottos for Steam Power.
We have 3 sources of coal, but none are hooked up. England and Babylon have no sources from what I can see. Russia and Ottos have 2. Vikes have 1. Our sources are near Rennes, Strasbourg, and Toledo.

Ask England to remove troops or declare and they declare.
Capture two English Workers.

Battle for Cambridge:
5/5 Cav vs. 3/3 Spear we win without a scratch.
Cambridge is ours.

Capture two more English workers.
Capture another English worker.

5/5 Knight vs. 3/3 Spear we win going 3/5. Captured 2 slaves in the process.

Turn 10 1300 AD -
Dijon Aqueduct->Musketeer
Amiens Barracks->Cav

Battle for Caesaraugusta:
4/4 Cav vs. 3/3 Musket we win without a scratch and promote.
5/5 Cav vs. 3/3 Musket we win going 4/5.
We take caesaraugusta and a worker with it. We now have access to ivory.

4/4 Cav vs. 4/4 Cav we win and go 1/4.

I think we should raze the three English cities up to the choke (Leeds) and replace with our own cities.

The Save

Ask England to remove troops or declare and they declare.

What tripped this? Was England about to sneak attack? I can't tell from this post.

Here are some screen shots...

Here is our brave Musketeer gaining us a GA.

Here are the Romans leaving the world for good.

Here is the current situation with England.

Well they had a settler pair deep in our territory. They had a cav unit next to our territory, as well. Not sure it could be called a sneak attack. I hope what I did wouldn't be considered a bad thing. I wanted to provoke them into war to take more workers.

Sorry team if I committed an exploit. It was not my intention to cheat the AI. It wasn't a sneak attack that they were planning, but I didn't want them prancing around in our territory either plus they had a bunch of tasty treats right outside of our lands. Let us face it we were going to go to war with them eventually, but I do realize it could have been later...however, I saw an oppurtunity and I took it. :(

I don't think it effected our rep at all, but it is fair to say the whole world hates us. I think it has more to do with the fact of what we have done to the Spanish and Romans (razed a bunch of their cities).

Well, as far as I'm concerned the darn AI will walk all over your territory and not care...but take one step into their territory and they freak out. I have no problem with the war declaration after asking them to leave. If they declare in that instance then a sneak attack may have been forthcoming. With just one settler pair actually in our territory they could have easily retreated.

From page 1
The following tactics are PROHIBITED:
Declaring War to break trade deals including actions like the Demand exploit to force a war, or demanding to leave territory.

I personally don't like the leave demand for war by Despot, but I truthfully can't consider it an exploit. I have revised the prohibited tactics to better cover this scenario.

Declaring War to break trade deals including actions like the Demand exploit to force a war, or demanding to leave territory when this is used to stop sending gpt / luxuries to another civ. The only exception is when a clear sneak attack is about to happen. If you choose to stop receiving gpt / luxuries by using a leave territory demand, then that is your choice.

1300 AD (pre-turn) - I work on troop upgrades by and 9 pike man become musketeers.
I change several build orders to courthouses to get them complete in marginal cities during the GA.

This sounds insane, but despite 3 scientific civs we could be the first to nationalism! I speed up research to 5 turns hoping for some good luck.
(I) England recovers Caesaraugusta that is no surprise with just 1 cavalry for a defender.

1305 AD - Caesaraugusta is recovered for the moment.
Exeter is razed so we hope lizzy gets the hint. Well she still won't talk. :crazyeye:
(I) Babylon wants us to waste on money on Free Artistry.

1315 AD -I've been working on the railroad.
I see no reason to continue the England war with how thin our troops are. I don't want war weariness during a GA, so I sign peace for worthless Free Artistry.

1320 AD (I) - Russia completes Magellan's Voyage. The cascade goes to Shakespeare that Babylon builds.

1330 AD - New Besancon is formed. The only civ with cash to offer is the Ottomans, so they get Nationalism for Silks, Dyes, $66/turn, $11 and wm.

1340 AD (I) - The MPPs begin as the Ottoman and English sign on.

Summary:
Let's get factories on-line.
Keep shuffling troops to upgrade everything to rifleman.

Lee, the revised rules do make sense to me, as well. I am sorry that you do not approve of what I did. I really wasn't even thinking that it was an exploit when I did it, but do understand now why it could be considered to be in the "grey area".

Actually it could of been an exploit and I really do apologize. Reason being is the full trade was Gems and 155 GP for Ivory. So I was sending them a lux and then renegged on the deal when I asked them to leave or declare. I am really sorry and will be much more careful in the future before doing anything of the sort. I am old enough to read rules and follow them so I am really sorry and hope that you accept my apology.

No apology needed. Part of the trouble with SG play is people have different standards of play.

The real exploit is signing a deal paying $100/turn to buy tech, then forcing a war. This gets a tech for almost nothing, and is the exploit. That is why I rewrote the rules.

Interesting game guys, seems you have got beyond the early problems with lack of workers very well :)

I've played 5 turns on this one - will be able to play the rest tomorrow morning probably. My apologies for the delay - RL suddenly got a bit more busy than anticipated.

Preturn: Hurry the temple in Caesaraugusta. Everything looks good and the military railnet is mostly in place. From here on out I will improve the highest-production cities first and focus on getting both Suffrage and ToE.

1355 AD (1) Science down to 30% for Industry next turn. I love the way the workers are neatlly packed in 6-man teams for one-turn railraods.

1360 AD (2) Industry comes in, I go for electricity due in 5 at 80%. I miss the cathedral prebuild in Paris :( It starts a factory now. Blow 1,000 gold on hurrying factories in Amiens and Orléans - Amiens will build Suffrage, Orléans ToE.

1365 AD (3) More railroading - rush a number of temples in the west.

1370 AD (4) The Russians have founded a village on the Arctic shore to the SW - we know where to find oil now.

1375 AD (5) Golden Age ends - our income drops to 23 gpt. To make up for it, I sell Industry to the Ottomans for 160 gpt and change, to the Russians for 53 gpt and change and to the Babs for 27 gpt. This allows me to set science to 100% for Electricity in 2.

1380 AD (6) Improving Paris

1385 AD (7) Electricity comes in, science set to Scientific Method, due in 4 at 90% (+168gpt). Paris starts a coal plant. No-one has anything more than 50gpt to offer for electricity, and I don't think that's quite enough.

1390 AD (8) ? (missed this turn in the report, sorry)

1395 AD (9) Coal plant hurried in Paris - I suggest switching Orléans to ToE, Paris to Suffrage and Amiens to palace when SciMeth comes in. Then, when ToE is built, switch Paris to Hoover and Amiens back to Suffrage.

1400 AD (10) Science to 80% for SciMEth next turn
