LK50 - Slow cooked deity, civ open to debate.

One comment - don't bleed the cash down to far. 50 cannons alone will eat a large chunk of cash to upgrade. We need to stop the cash bleed soon.

=========================

What happen to the worker factory? How did it get to size 4? It should have held at size six forever with minor mm - switch hills to grassland.

T-Hawk, I got it. I'll go ahead and switch with you and play tonight, as I finally have some free time.

I think I hate workers now. Cannons too, they suck.

I'm not going to go into much detail here. I was very tempted to put on the governor, and automate some workers...but I know the workers would just run to the front lines and get captured. Plus it's probably some sort of SG mortal sin, even at this stage of the game :crazyeye:

Anyway, I had some bad luck with the RNG. Nothing too serious, but it slowed things down a bit. I razed Utica and Hippo after bombarding them below size 7. Did I mention cannons suck? I replaced both with our own, better cities.

Carthage wanted peace on my fifth turn or so. He has a monopoly on Corporation. We hand built Universal Suff, as it was only a few turns from completion. WLTKD celebrated in a few cities. We rushed ToE, and took Rep Parts and Atomic Theory, starting research on Electronics due in 8...ish. We are researching at 80% so we don't go broke before we get it.

I upgraded all our cannons in the SOD...because cannons suck. The complete SOD is in New Birka, which I just founded. I split his empire in two by razing the two cities that I did. You have two options really. Go west, and raze his capitol, or go east and get control of more lux. Up to you, I was headed towards his capitol.

I got lazy on MM, so you might want to double check things if you are that precise. No cities will riot, but I guarantee you'll move things around if you like to MM for an hour each turn. There are some rather large stacks of workers. I was mainly clearing jungles in tiles that could be worked, and made sure to complete rails to our new cities.

He has been sending out a few longbowman here and there, but the cavs have been MIA for a while. You should be set up pretty well to go whichever direction you want, although it will be at least a couple turns before you do any real damage if you take along the artillery. I was considering taking out the west half with cavs, and bombing east half with stacks of arty/rifles...well, infantry now.

The Save

Unfortunately, I didn't have time to play any more tonight and won't tomorrow night. So I'm posting back with only 3 turns completed, but they were certainly big turns.

Inherited turn:

Diplo check: horses to Brennus for 9gpt is up for renewal, I think I'd be happier with him not building more cavalry than with 9 gpt. Also a huge Wines + Spices + 48gpt to Greece for Silks was on the table. We renegotiate that - he wants a ridiculous Wines + 70gpt for it! Screw that, says I; we'll hire a dozen or so entertainers and save the cash.

Tech check: Electronics due in 8 but we have no Hoover prebuild; I guess we're counting on a Great Leader but I should get one.

Army check: 55 artillery and 50 cavalry. That's plenty! Carthage is going down, NOW. He lacks Replaceable Parts (and Electricity even.)

Count the hammers and you will know how many cities Carthage lost...

----------

1505 AD: Thanks to culture from New Oslo, our artillery can reach Gergovia. :hammer: Brandenburg never got a cultural expansion under Carthage, so our artillery can also reach that city. :hammer: Rather than leave 30 cavalry idle this turn we attack Rusicade with them; the army goes first killing the veteran rifle leaving only regulars and Rusicade is razed. :hammer: We still have 25 each arty and cavalry unused so I send the latter at Salzburg (only regular rifles) :hammer: and now we also have Dyes (phooey on Greece's silks!) That opens up a path to bombard Bonn which also never got a cultural expansion. :hammer: Some combat railroad engineers get us access to Cataractonium which also gets bombarded and razed. :hammer: Some freshly acquired railroad engineers get our artillery access to another city whose name I didn't even note. :hammer: Finally we build a railroad to Agedincium which shows only conscript rifles (the Celts appear to have attacked it) and we raze that. :hammer:

Continued in next post due to stupid smiley limit...

In 1505, Carthage and the Celts make peace. We're going all-out to wipe out Carthage, though, guaranteed, so we sign Brennus back to alliance for Wines + 9gpt.

1510 AD: A combat settler gets us access to Cirta which is bombarded and razed. :hammer: Aleppo is railed, reached, rocked, and captured (bet you were expecting 'razed'.) :hammer: Fez fights back killing two elite cavs with a 1-hp rifle (!) but gets razed. :hammer: Shiraz is next on the hitlist. :hammer: Sulcis can't be reached with our artillery but it can with our cavalry. :hammer: Merw falls. :hammer: I thought I was out of cavalry then realized we had several newly-built ones in home cities so Tolosa is bombarded and razed. :hammer:

1515 AD: Burdigala is razed and that's Carthage's last city in the northwest. :hammer: They still have two on the far side of the Celt land. New Stavanger is founded giving our artillery access to Carthage city and Leptis Minor. Carthage city is defended by two vet rifles and about five regulars; that's no match for 55 artillery (it only took about 30 shots to redline the city). :hammer: We keep it because it's got a big shiny musical cathedral. [party] Leptis Minor doesn't have any veteran rifles and is bombarded with the rest of our artillery and razed. :hammer: Then, I wasn't even planning to do this this turn but we still have 8 cavalry left unused so Leptis Magna is razed. :hammer:

Carthage is all but gone; he has one core city left and then those islands. The cavalry active in the north was scoping out Greek and Celtic territory for possible RoP routes over to the last two Carthage cities in the north. Or we could just go ahead and declare war on one of those two (probably Celts) and march on over. Up to the next leader whether to simply go for conquest (I would) or to fill in everything for domination.

We have a ridiculous number of workers (like over 200) fortified around the home cities. Still waiting on a GL for Hoover.

This game might well not come back to me again. :D

Remember 10 turns per round - STRICT 24 hours got it, total 48 to complete.

(1515ad-0) wow! the map changed a lot since I had the reign last time.

got through the cities, hire some taxmen in ultra-corrupt cities with food surplus (I rather lose one turn of production due to rioting from time to time than giving away the gold the specialists will generate:)) we get an extra 40gpt; switch some of them from markets to workers -even if we can squeeze out some production there, there's no chance they will finish in time to make any difference.
Also wake the workers: rails need to be laid down on our continent, so we can reach every point ASAP and the ultra corrupt cities get irrigated completely, so they can support more specialists (I usually go ICS in these areas, but will not do so here)

Greece would offer a nice deal for Electricity -but this would let them get Infantry faster.

(1520ad-1) not much, move troops into position. We cannot reach the two northern cities on our continent without ROP with the celts -I do not sign any because I do not want to be tied in a treaty for the next 20 turns.

(1525ad-2) ww hits again, oh well, can't do much about this...sell off all temples in corrupt cities, let them riot (the specialists still produce gold, so why should I care)

(1530ad-1540ad, 3-4) If there's something I really hate in civ, it's going for some islands in wars that are already won. getting some troops on the other continent...we only have very few cash, because I'm trying to maintain the research pace on electronics, so rushing galleons goes not as quickly as I want to.

(1545ad-5) Capture CarthagoNovo+Stuttgart, Leader for Hoover emerges.

(1550ad-6) Capture Gades, Malaca, Rusginiae and Hamburg.
(1555ad-7) electronics researched, hover rushed. set research to zero...we have better uses for the cash.
(1560ad+1565ad-8+9) moving troops towards next carthagian island, found some more cities
(IBT) Alex demands wines...
lk50-1560ad1.jpg

oh well, his cities on our continent were annoying anyway.

(1570ad-10)
Carthage:destroy Al-Kaf, take tingis, lol...
lk50-1560ad2.jpg

Greece: take Artemisium, Ratae Coritanorum, Bakha, Thessalonika, Camulodunum, Halicarnassus, Pergamon, Thaenae;
destroy Bukhara, Megara, Aden. Greece is no longer present on our continent...we still have many cavs unmoved, so:
lk50-1560ad3.jpg

take Nemasus, Richborough, Lindum, Damaskus, Kufah, cash-rush many settlers as we're close to domination.

I do one more turn, no point in stopping here.
(1575ad-11) take Yamama, Najran, Alesia, Curovenrum, Entremont, found many cities to fill our continent

Ragnar the magnificient, 6256pts.

thank you for this great game, it was a lot of fun playing with you.:)

here's the last turn.

Well guys, we proved you don't need to wait for tanks. :D
Even a 40% bonus they can't handle an artillery SoD. Even the Cannon SoD got a few cities.

Game over before tanks - well the 50% science increase in time definitely showed.

:goodjob: to all.

:hmm: No active LK series. Will have to solve that once next weeks vacation is done. I timed just right on the vacation.

Wow ! I'm amazed at how quickly we killed almost everyone ! I should get more lessons of this : raze + railroads + raze + railroads...
Happy to have brought my humble contribution to a LK game. :) That now leaves me with only one SG (mine) and this is far enough (vacations soon + many solo games to play (GOTM 21 ?)).

do you really want to play gotm21 now...there's not much time left, and this game is not a very short one (if you want to score well).

 Come one - half hour a turn isn't that bad.
I love 15 minutes a turn just on workers.

Nice industrious-age warfare guys. :goodjob:
