LK59 - Simply Deity

1450 AD
Our number one problem is lack of Aluminum. We could get it from Russia, but I think we will need to convince Korea to get us a permanent supply once they stop shipping us money.

I have no idea why we have a RoP with Korea – it is cancelled.

1470 AD
We have a serious problem. Russia is at 55695 culture gaining 581/turn. They win in <42 turns. We can’t launch that fast. We will occur with Russia!

1475 AD
Russia crosses our borders by Castelo Branco, and I demand the Russia leave. She refuses and a war begins.
We draw first blood and raze Birka.

1480 AD
This is going to be real tight as our air force was horrid and injured almost nothing by Castelo Branco.
(I) During the defense of Castelo Branco we get a leader. The city held, but we lost the infantry army.

To be continued...
I thought this would be 10 quick turns of peace for tonight. I am starting to fall asleep at the keyboard.

1485 AD
The leader forms an army, and tries to rally the troops. There are just 3 units left in the city with just 6 hit points. The reinforcements arrived just in time.

Our spy attempt failed in Russia.

War weariness has already arrived. :(

We trade Sumeria computers for Ecology, Amphib War, Ironclads and $3/turn. I really want Ecology.

I dial up Korea and put the RoP back in place. There are a couple of stray Russia cities on our continent!

1490 AD
We destroy a Russia tasks force with 1 CV, 3 DD for just 1 BB. We raze the Russian city of Zabalam liberating $31 (for a size 1 city!). However my assault on Kazan simply "improves" our economy by reducing support cost for Cavalry. :(

Our foothold on the Russian continent improves as Lagartero is razed. I loved seeing air force getting blow up. Our settler can replace it next turn, and we will have a source of Aluminum.
(I) We get our wonder goal, and Seti completes. I start an airport to produce a few vet fighters (1 a turn!) until we are closer to building the Internet.
We get a double palace expansion.

1495 AD
We destroy a plane in Stockholm via lethal bombardment. I didn't realize you could destroy planes on the ground. Kazan eats 3 tanks for and the mech inf stay alive. I finally nail the city with a bit of craziness as our newly formed 4 unit mech inf army razed the city. :D We caught at least one ship in port and finally hit a city with culture.
(I) We get totally screwed as our harbor on the Russia continent is destroyed.
Russia completes the Manhattan project :(

1500 AD
Our luck isn't as good with our navy this time. We lose a BB and CC to sink a CV and BB. We leave the 2 DD alive.

We get a leader and rush and airport. We really need those furs back on-line!

Lethal bombardment really helps as we sink 4 ships by Stockholm including what I hoped is a loaded transport.

Summary:
NO PEACE with Russia. We must raze multiple cities to avoid a Russia cultural win before we can launch. Russia wins by culture in less then 40 turns! I have only razed one city with an expanded cultural border.
We still need **eight** techs to launch. We don't have the research ability to launch in under 40 turns.

Mad-Bax needs to start the pre-build for the Internet in Emerita.

There is a settler on the aluminum to claim that for us. There is another settler to be built that will claim incense once Stockholm is razed.

Oooh... This is what I love about deity games.
I see it and will play tonight. If it takes more that three hours it may spill over until tomorrow.

1500AD:

1505AD:
Capture Stockholm without loss.
Sumarians land troops near to Branco (furs). We don't need this.
Signed MA with Sumerians vs Russia for iron.
Signed MA against Russians with Korea for Saltpetre.
I am fully aware of the 20 turn consequences et al. But we cannot afford a dogpile. It would be too time consuming (turns wise).

1510AD:
Lost 2 bombers to AAA and fighters.
Capture Bonampak.
Capture Copenhagen.

IBT:
Not good.
We lost 2 Mech inf and a flak.

1515AD:
Take Trondheim with the temple of Artemis. <sigh>
We now have wines. Slider drops to 20% (296gpt)

1520AD:
Capture Bergen.
Capture Reyjkavik

IBT:
Sumerians declare war on us.
SIX pollution hits.

1525AD:
Sink a carrier :D
I'm through the choke and into the core now, but I'm fighting very lean. I have to regroup a little so this turn is just to get stuff in the right place. I think we will need to take out four or five of the big Russian cities to give us 60 turns or so for space.

I was unable to finish my turns within 48hrs, sorry.

I'll post the save, and I can either finish tomorrow, or you can skip me.

>>THE GAME<<

Finish Tommorrow. These are very time consuming turns.

I think we will need to take out four or five of the big Russian cities to give us 60 turns or so for space.
By the time we get to the core - RAZE those cities. We can't risk a large culture city flipping back.

Don't worry boss. The cities will stand for one turn only, so I can get a settler past them.

Thanks for cutting me some slack.

I had a look at the save now and a few remarks come to mind:

- Why are we only half researching? I'd go for Miniaturization at max (in 7 and with all Russian cizitens as scientist even in 6).
- A couple of citizens have entertainers and are starving. That can easily be helped.
EDIT: Many core cities lack research labs.

Great job on the conquering part though :)

The Internet covers the research labs of course, if we get a decent prebuild going (the Palace has to be up to like 600-700 shields). And I'd second the recommendation for researching at max; we're still going for space I think (should still be faster in both game and real time than domination/conquest).

LK had to go and nix the fairly likely diplomatic win... :p  :D

Why are we only half researching?
I am not sure if things changed since my turn. However, with WW the luxury tax was eating up to much revenue. Now with that Russian incense. :D

Well conquest is start to sound possible. However, right now we are trying not to LOSE. We have slowed culture, but we need to cut a lot more down.

The internet pre-build can start now if we increase research. I need enough money to rush an airport however, because at the moment our overseas luxex are routed through Maya I believe.

I am back. Nice catch to nitice the Russian culture. I would never have thought to look for that.

Seems like interesting turns are ahead :)

Nice catch to nitice the Russian culture.
After losing LK58 due to failure to realize how close someone was with VP - ships left port a player late - I have really feel in love with the screen.

This is a lot of beating up of Russia to do. I am not even sure if we have cleaned up the last of the nonsense on our continent yet.

1525AD: Raise science to get miniaturizition in 10. Set Emerita to build Palace in 10.

1530AD: Horrible round of bombardment. Maybe 4 hits if I was lucky and lost a bomber to boot.

1535AD: This is taking the shape of a pear. Three bombers shot down by fighters. No hits by arty except for a few mech inf reduced to 3hp. No headway remotely possible. We have about half the arty required.

IBT:
UN vote prompt.

1540AD:
A total of 28 arty attacks resulted in exactly 5 successful hits all on units that will heal by the next turn.
A total of four bomber attacks resulted in 2 shot down and no successful hits. I won't even attempt to bomb a city because with all the SAM in them they stand zero chance.

1545AD:

A total of 32 arty attack resulted in exactly 4 successful hits all on units.
The last two of our bombers were shot down.

IBT: The Russians start the Internet

1550AD:

11 successful hits with arty this turn.
Trade Maya iron and rubber for silks.
Hit next turn by mistake.

I have never had such innefectual arty. Nor have I had such a high percentage of bombers shot down. There are upwards of a dozen units in Novogrod. Only on one occaision did the arty bombard enough so the top defender was not at full health.

This is the first C3C game I've played that has reached this far, so tell me, do arty only take out units now? Around 200 artillery rounds didn't reduce the population once, and nor did it destroy a single building. The RNG can't do that to you, so something in the game must have changed surely.

Any road up. I hit a brick wall once I got to the core. They have so much air deence it's not even funny.
Moscow is bulding the internet. We will need to plant a spy and sabotage it's production. They will beat us to it.

Sorry I didn't post last night but my internet connection died for a while.

Artillery against mechs is tough, indeed. 18 defense to start, add metropolis, civil defense, radar tower, and fortification, and it becomes 54. That's a hit ratio of less than one out of four for artillery.

Now can we consider a diplomatic victory? Russia's still our opponent and we can probably get all the rest of the votes with MPPs...

Now can we consider a diplomatic victory?
Well the war with Sumeria must end before this is even a valid question. That victory really sucks, but it may be the only possible one.

Do we have time to starve the russian cities down in size ?

Would that even make a difference ?

If we starve/raze all their improvements, wouldn't we get internet before Moscow ?

Grimjack

Korea are not at war with us. They are at war with Russia. Sumeria are also at war with Russia, and in any case, we can sign peace and an MPP with them.

On the war front... bombers are shot down in a ratio of 2 to every three bombing runs. Arty is effective in a ratio of 1:4 and never reduces the pop of a city. It may be possible using aggressive settlers to get the arty into a position to destroy all the tiles around a given city, and starve the cities down. In 5 turns Novogrod reduced from 26 to 22 in size. IMO this is not quick enough. OTOH Russia must be hurting. Their cities are huge, but they only have 1 or two luxes.

Unfortunately, with bombers being an expensive option, we really need 100 arty trained on a city just to red-line the defenders, and even a red-lined Mech inf will win against a tank when fortified in a Metropolis.

With the benefit of hindsight would say that we are paying for leaving the Russians to develop unmolested. I didn't even realise that the culture limit was set at only 80000. At deity that's a very realistic target for the AI. Ironically had we played on Lees' hated 80% water type map, they would not be able to do it.

IMHO we may as well continue the war with Russia for another 7 turns and decide then whether or not to bail out into a diplo. We may get lucky with a few leaders, in which case we can build a few tank armies which may help. We can build armies too, but the city that can do that is exactly 80spt which knocks out arty every turn.
