LK59 - Simply Deity

How considerate of them to put a privateer right next to our carracks :)

Right when it will be used to the full extent as well.

>>THE GAME<<

850AD: Pre-turn
I do a little MM'ing. I can get electricity for all our gpt if I throw an ROP in with it. I don't take it yet as Korea has nothing to give en exchange. I would like to build TOE.

IBT:
Vikings and Russia sign an MA against Sumeria

860AD:
Nothing

IBT:
Russia wants to trade World Maps. No

870AD:
Quiet

IBT:
Russia and Korea sign peace.
Sumeria demand dyes. No. They back down. Pity.
Lots of factories and coal plants are finishing.
Are we intending to ever self research? I don't know the team well enough, to guess. So I'm going to start building Libraries and Unis and a TOE Pre-build.

880AD:
Sumeria get Espionage. Pity. I can buy Electricity from Sumeria but not Russia. Therefore if I buy espionage from Sumeria I will not be able to buy electricity from Cathy. So I can't deal for it yet.

890AD:
I rush a wall and a court, and I short rush a factory for around 450g total. I'll buy electricity soon.
I still can't do a twofer with Russia, so I am going to leave it for a little while.

920AD:
Due to border expansions we have robbed the Koreans of their Gems. I cannot risk selling it on as there are Korean workers on it and a couple of Rifles have just walked into our territory. When the workers move I'll put a rifle on the Mountain and sell it then.

Sell Gems to Russia for 405g

Hope I'm not making a :smoke: here.

Buy Espionage from Sumeria for WM + dyes + 119gpt + 1220g.
Sell Espionage to Cathy for 1129g
Sell Espionage to Vikings for 240g + 35gpt (bankrupt)

I decide to take Oporto off worker farm duties. I know 38 workers isn't a lot but practically all our land is fully developed.

IBT:
Maya and Sumeria Sign MA against Russia AND the vikings
First pollution strikes.

930AD:
Decide to hook up the second iron and sell it to Sumeria for the Electricity deal.
It costs Iron, 78gpt, and 1230g for electricity. I decided on a mainly up front payment so we don't get into trouble when the GA expires.
Sell Electricity to Scandinavia for Wines + Furs plus the useless techs we don't have. The drop in lux is worth 80odd gpt to us.

Nobody has scientific method. It looks like the TOE prebuild will have to be slowed up.

940AD:
Quiet. Sumeria and Russia both have RP

IBT:
Russia send a couple of galleons into our waters. Might be a good time to buy RP from them.

950AD: Quiet.

Leira is starving to delay the TOE Pre-build, a citiizen will die in 2 turns. It may be necessary to irrigate a few tiles temporarily. It was my fault, the GA bonuses just threw me and I started it too early.
I've started to build some libraries and unis. Only a couple so far as I wanted this to be reversable at minimum cost.

Sumeria and Russia are in facism, the vikings are in anarchy (revolting to facism) and Korea and the Mayans are in Democracy.

I didn't build a single unit. Lisbon and Emerita are perfect 80 shield cities and can knock out 1 cav per turn each.

Just as a discussion point... I think we should gear up to outresearch the AI to a space win now, since they are at war and their ability to research is hampered.

Shifting over to research mode sounds like the thing to do in the near future, yes. Probably after we build ToE we'll want to start researching.

Espionage might've waited, but it didn't cost that much (about 1000 gold net) and doesn't hurt to have it now.

Oporto was continuing to farm workers for merging into other cities. Cities like Lagos and Pagama will take a long time to grow on their own. Growing Oporto really doesn't accomplish anything, as all it can do is add about five more water tiles. I was going to suggest letting Oporto continue workers until we get hospitals and all the cities maxed; we can make use of at least 60 workers for that purpose.

Sure, Oporto could have continued making workers, and I could have let it continue. I wanted to grow Oporto because when the right building are put in it it will contribute a lot of commerce for the research push. There is the opportunity to found another city on the marsh to the west. If Oporto needs to go back to worker production it can eject a settler now for that site and go back on exactly the same setup as it was.

Espionage is a tech we would have to get sooner or later, but as I stated in my turnlog, I wasn't sure about it. I have a feeling that the two Russian ships sailing to our southern coast will drop a few units off. If they do then I would try to buy RP from them.

IHT: I decide to leave most of the stuff as it is. I am afraid that we will get Scientific Method too late, but I cross my fingers.

IT: Our silk deal with the Maya ends and I decide not to renew it. It would cost us 29 gpt.

Turn 1 (960 AD) Russia knows Scientific Method. But for now buying it at first is too much. We can afford to wait.
Leiria is prevented from starving.

Turn 2 - 5 (970 - 1000 AD) No-one has Scientific Method other than the Russians. They are at war with the other strong civ, Sumeria. A lot of libraries and universities are ordered so prepare for self research.

Turn 6 (1010 AD) All our gold for SciMeth is 'close to a deal'. I have 1 more turn before our pre-build is obsolote.

IT: Scandinavia wants 100 gold and tm from us. I give in, because we get two luxuries and 35 gpt from them. Acandinavia and Korea sign peace.

Turn 7 (1020 AD) I buy Scientific Method from Russia (at first) for silks, dyes, 2119 gold and 194 gpt. US switched to ToE. Russia didn't start it yet!! I sell Scientific Method to Sumeria for 1860 gold and world map

IT: Korea wants to renew the peace deal. I accept.

Turn 8 (1030 AD) We have ToE [dance]. I choose Atomic Theory and Electronics as our free techs. I sell Russia Atomic Theory for Sanitation, Replaceable Parts and 1875 gold. Sumeria has the Corporation, but I don't want to sell them Atomic Theory and 50 gold for it. They are still at war with Russia. I sell Sanitation to Sumeria for 1250 gold.

Research is on Radio, but one lone scientist until we have more universities.

Turn 9 (1040 AD) Russia now also has the Corporation, so I sell Atomic Theory to Sumeria for the Corporation and 1750 gold. We now only lack Communism and Fascism. We have 7044 gold. The golden Age is over and at 0% science we lose 35 gpt...

Turn 10 (1050 AD) We could make a lot of money with selling Electronics. At this moment I think that it would be difficult to get Radio at first. Maybe things change with hospitals, stock exchanges, universities. I've not started Hoover yet. I wanted to build Hospitals first.

Inherited turn:

Shuffle troops and upgrade everything to infantry. Disband leftover horsemen - cheaper now to just build more cavalry than to keep them around.

Diplo check: cancel the coal import from the Mayans. We got our own coal 25 turns ago! How long was that going on?! Also renegotiate Saltpeter to Sumeria for a higher price and in lump-sum.

Also trade Electricity + Corporation to Maya for Communism + Silks. We need the lux with hospitals coming, and we wouldn't mind police stations either.

Russia can pay 5000 cash and Sumeria can pay 250/turn, but I decide to hold on to Electronics for now at least. And with 6500 cash in our own bank, we can afford to start our own research. 100% research on Radio is begun.

Short-rush Emerita's hospital via colosseum so it can start Hoover sooner. It's our most powerful city to do that.

Oporto returns to worker farm duty; we want lots to merge into other cities now with hospitals.

====================

Early: Workers merge Emerita up to size 17 (its limit of happiness), Hoover will finish in 11 turns total. Colosseums get ordered after hospitals; we'll need them.

Middle: Workers merge into lots of cities. Build Intelligence Agency in Lisbon. Russia and Sumeria each researched Refining and Steel and have them at monopolies (they're at war with each other.) Sell Sci Meth to Vikings for a renewal of Wines + Furs.

Late: This might get me yelled at, but I abandon Oporto. We don't need to farm workers any more. Every one of its tiles can be used by a neighboring city now with hospitals. Oporto would be working four water tiles and contributing nothing to the empire. Better to bump every other city up the corruption chain a notch than to build and maintain another set of buildings. Abandoning the city actually *gains* us 3gpt income, plus shields as well.

1150 AD: Russia and Sumeria are still not researching Electronics (our sell price hasn't dropped.) That means Russia is researching Steel and Sumeria is researching Refining. When they each get those techs, sell Electronics for them and clean up on their treasuries, of course. We will have Radio in 2.

Universal Suffrage isn't even built yet. I swap Emerita to that instead of Hoover. There will be no cascade, and then Lisbon can start a new build for Hoover.

Late: This might get me yelled at, but I abandon Oporto.
Although I understand the logic I really hate throwing away a city with developed buildings. I never would have done this one...

=========================

That means Russia is researching Steel and Sumeria is researching Refining. When they each get those techs, sell Electronics for them and clean up on their treasuries, of course
With the provision that we have BUILT Hoovers! I don't want to give them even a 1% chance at that wonder.

Oporto's buildings were useless, is the point. It had a granary, aqueduct, and marketplace. The first two didn't help since it was already working all the water tiles it could reach at size 4, and the last doesn't help since we're going to be researching from now on. I wouldn't have done that to a city with factory, university, etc; but the fact is that the surrounding cities can make vastly better use of the tiles. (I did make one mistake in forgetting to sell the buildings for cash before abandoning. :crazyeye: )

It should take Russia and Sumeria at least 4-5 more turns to finish their techs, and then our Hoover build will be far enough ahead that we'll have a lock on it. (They won't be getting any sci GLs either, and if they already had one they would've used it on Suffrage.) They've gone 40 friggin turns without building Suffrage; I wouldn't worry about Hoover. :D

I think abandoning Oporto was a brilliant idea. T-hawks reasoning is spot on IMO. The reason I wouldn't have done it is that I would never have had the foresight. :goodjob:

Nice moves. Always good to learn something new.

Got it.

I will most likely finish my turns tonight. ( Barring some sneak attack or something. )

As usual I could learn something new from LKendter SG:
1) you can have your GA from a victory against a privateer.
Nice to know when you play England on PTW.
2) abandoning a city with a marketplace and finishing with +3GPT, it is an interesting point of view. I would never thought about it.
Thank you to all of you for sharing that.
