LK59 - Simply Deity

LK59-1150AD Short term goal, Nab us Hoovers and Suffrage. Continue to push research buildings. With our opponents in Fascism, they are unlikely to get any techs even though it is deity.
I have a hard time here choosing between LKendter's safe way, and T-Hawks optimized way. I will see how long it takes Russia/Sumeria to grab their techs, and what kind of cities they have before deciding if I want to sell them Electronics.
I am fairly certain sale price of Electronics would go down if Hoovers were actually built.

Lisbon is at 78 spt, and Emerita at 86. Lisbon get one extra turn to build Hoovers though, as Emerita will need to spend this turn finishing Suffrage.
Hoover dam is 800 shields, giving Lisbon 11 turns to finish, and Emerita 10, making finish date the same.
I can get two more shields base = 3 shields with factory if I nix growth, giving emerita 89 shields for a 9 turn Hoover. Thus Hoover goes to Emerita. ( Lisbon is only able to field 84 spt optimized. )

We will not be able to sustain research much longer. Treasury is 1300 and we do -340 gpt. Another reason to sell techs.
As to trade. The Cossacks seem to have broken the back of Sumeria, as they do nto have a single resource, and very few luxes as well. Kish their best city is 12 spt base at my best guess. NO wonders will be built here.
Moscow on the other hand looks really dangerous. Base shields around 30. Times Factory+Diety bonus, they could conceivably build Hoovers in about 10 turns. Faster if they have already built a hospital.

I tune down science tax a notch or two, and budget deficit is down to -190 gpt. MOve also a couple of cavs to rubber city to counter cultural pressure a bit.

IBT: A privateer I had decided to ignore sinks itself against one of our carracks. Luanda Completes courthouse and starts a library. Suffrage completes and I statr Hoovers. Coimbra completes Colloseum and starts a university.

1160 Mine emerita, and Hoover is due in nine. I start a 10% lux tax, and push EMerita to 105 spt, and Hoovers in 8.
( I do not need 100% science, so I think it justified. I do not have enough food in Emerita to be able to use specialists.)
Russia now has booth Steel and Refining. I think it justified to check on Moscow which seems to be the best city the AI has, even though this might push us below 1000 gold.
LK59_Moscow.jpg

Looks like they are stuck in war-mode, so I do not think they are very likely to build anything worthwhile any time soon. Certainly not faster than 8 turns.
They lack hospital, and they lack factory. This was unexpected. Refining is worth more to Russia than Electronics.
Electronics is however worth STeel and 4222 gold to Russia. I will wait one turn and see if Russia research Electronics, before selling to her. ( And wait for Sumeria to get Refining before selling to him. )

IBT: Radio comes in, and I research Refining at a slow speed, building our treasury up. ( I hope Sumeria will get refining within the next ten turns. )
Leiria completes its courthouse, and I set it on Infantry. I would not want the bother of a Korean sneak attack, so a few more infantry in our border cities is probably a good investment as a prevention.
Alternative would be to run Wealth.

1170 Price for ELectronics just went down in Russia, so I sell it to her, betting she cannot build Hoovers in less than seven turns.
Sell Electronics to Russia for Steel and 3525 gold. ( Yup, waiting one turn to see if Russia researched Electronics cost us 700 gold. Thats was a bit steep I think. )
Radio is not enough to get Refining, so I will wait here. Russia hasn't even close to full price for Radio. I know it is likely she will research that, and if I discover she no longer will pay all she has for it, I will sell. For now, we are up Radio, and Russia is up Refining.
Sink a privateer outside our coast.

IBT: Maya and Russia sign peace. We complete Heroic Epic, and I start Military academy. Evora completes Colloseum, and starts University.Braga completes Cathedral, and starts on wealth. ( ALternative is stock excchange, but if we are going to push tech, I do not see us making lots of bucks. )
And things go mildly interesting as Russia starts Hoover in the city of Sumer, a pillaged size 5 city on the frontline.

1180 I fortify workers around Emerita as we start to get fully improved in our core.
I shave a couple of turns off of our corrupt cities by running full food and hiring engineers. Get down from 20 turns to 6 in Alcacer.

IBT: Leiria Infantry->Infantry, Rio Colloseum->Courthouse,

1190 Now it is our research that gives a hefty discount. I can get Refining from Russia for Radio now. I will research one more turn, to see if I can get all her gold and a lux as well. Nope, I renegotiate, and I sell Radio to Russia for Refining,Silks and 1133 gold.
Russia has not researched Combustion yet, so I set full speed ahead, and hope to prevent her from any chance of a science leader.
I also get Sumerias 2227 gold for Refining as well.
Nix lux taxes, and set science 100% for Combustion in eight. Thats not very likely to be before Russia, but it will be a good race.
We do have an oil.

IBT: Russia wants an MPP, but I sell her a pair of world maps instead. Lagos Police station->HOspital. Sagres Police station->Wealth, Coimbra University->Police station.

1200 Merge a coupel of workers into cities. Waill wait for hospitals before merging the rest of the native workers.

IBT: Two privateers comes out of the fog and sinks one of our carracks, so I will go and put our ships into port. Leiria Inf->inf

1210 I can lower the slider on Combustion one step, and still get Combustion in six, but as I have a university coming up in two, I will keep it at 100% until then to see if that uni makes a difference.
In a touch of pity, I gift Replaceable parts to Scandinavia who is at war with most of the world. I hope he can last a bit longer now.

IBT: Rio completes courthouse, and I starts a preliminary artiller production. WIll have to check if I can get 35 spt when I clear the pollution.

1220 With the help of a policeman I can reach production goal, and still get the same amount of research. Switch to wealth as I discover Artillery is 80 shields, and not 70.
I put Sagres on Artillery instead. POlicemen do make a difference, and you can get more shields out of their use.
Russia just lost its science subsidy of 194 gpt we were paying her. I hope that increases our chances a bit of being tech leaders.

IBT: Sao Paolo completes factory, and goes for Aqueduct. I grew careless, and Luanda a rim city riots after undetected growth. Coimbra completes police station and starts on wealth. Leiria Inf->Inf. Pagama Hospital->Cathedral,Evora University->Policestation,Faro Factory->Hospital,

1230 OUr university didn't gain us a turn on Combustion, so I lower the slider a bit.

IBT: Scandinavia and SUmeria sign peace. We finish Mil Academy, and start an army. Alcacer completes courthouse, and starts policestation, Emerita complete Hoover dam :band: Start a Stock exchange. I realized it will pay for itself during the turns when research is not 100%.

1240 Clear pollution.

IBT: Sagres Artiller->Artillery, Leira Infantry->Stock. We lose our supply of silks.

1250 Trade steel to Mayans for their silks. ( I know they got a bargain for that, but I would rather keep my money, as it is not likely the Mayans will get any within the next twenty turns. )
Feel free to build a STock Exchange in Lisbon instead of Army. WIth us being at peace, armies could be lower priority.

I have not sold our old coal plants. I save them as a money reserve in case we really need the money for something.

Save is here, go get it.

Grimjack.

Ps, remember I cannot get it between this coming Sunday and the next sunday, due to me not knowing if I have any access or not.

Better to sell the coal plants right now. They still cost 3 gold to maintain, and still put out 3 stacks of pollution. We get 40 gold each whether we sell them right now or next week, so go ahead and sell them.

To speed Hoover, you might've merged more workers into Emerita. I stopped at 17 because that was its limit on happiness (it didn't have a colosseum), but once you instituted luxury tax, you could've. Doesn't matter now. :)

I'd suggest building enough armies to get the Pentagon built. Don't fill them of course; save them for tanks/mechs/armors.

I did put in workers into EMerita. Thats why I needed the tax.

I also stole a couple of tiles from Lisbon. Main thing that surprised me was that it was often a good thing to have a policeman in the 1,5 ring of cities. ( Those that had the food to support them. )

Something is screwed up with C3C and wonder graphics, but the game is running. I will have to put up with it as I don’t have access to the all CDs at the moment. I am not sure where the problem is. Just as I thought I had the machine good….

1250 AD
Our military is horrid. This late in the game, and we have cities defended by Cavalry? We have just one artillery piece?

Sarges proves the value of cops - that one extra shield from the cop allows artillery ever 2 turns.

1255 AD
(I) Next to research is flight. If we get a war a few bombers would really help.

1275 AD
(I) I get the notice to build Wall Street! I am surprised to be this far up the tech tree and to not have that built.

1290 AD
All of the AI wars have hurt us! We lost 2 luxuries, but can only find one to import back.

1295 AD
Wall Street helps as we can up the science rate by 10%.
(I) Russia and Sumeria have signed a peace treaty.

Summary:
Keep building some military. If nothing else we don’t want to be an AI target. Russia is so close to us in science that we have to be ready for a possible invasion of Russia.

We still have a lot of libraries and universities to build, so it's no suprise that Russia is almost level in science. We lead in all important demographics and Russia is a Fascist state. As long as they remain at war, I'm not too worried.

1300AD:
I really don't like the Police station going into Alcacer. I change it to aqueduct. Income permitting I'll short rush it back to where it would have been by the end of my turn.

1305AD:
IBT:
Learn Flight research MP.

1310AD:
We get a scientific Leader. I guess We'll keep him for the UN.

IBT:
We lose a transport to a privateer. Not sure why they were parked off-shore anyway.

1320AD: Renew Spices deal with Russia for 35gpt.

1325AD: Russia Learn Flight. We are a worker short of being able to clear 3 tiles of pollution in one turn. Thats 2 turns in a row I havent been able to clear it all. I'll fix it.

1345AD: Decide to sell combustion to Korea for 41gpt and 88g. It's not a lot but we can do with the income.

1350AD: Renew lux deal with Maya.

If you look at the picture you will see the opportunity to grab another lux by settling on the mine NE of the furs and rushing an airport or airfield maybe, not sure how long they take to build. I have a settler in a transport underneath the cruiser you can see, but I forgot to add the workers. There are 3 workers in a transport now ready to follow behind with a cruiser escort. Sorry about that.

I ran a heavy defecit to keep in front of the Russians. Hopefully they will research the optional techs before going to the MA. From there we're home and dry I'd say.

I've also been sinking all the privateers that have wandered within range. They are all Russian BTW, fairly obviously.

Don't forget about the Scientific Leader cooling his heels in the capital. :)

Here's a likely place to settle.

>>THE GAME<<

We lose a transport to a privateer. Not sure why they were parked off-shore anyway.
They were heading toward the stack of destroyers so that we could have a large fleet ready.

We get a scientific Leader. I guess We'll keep him for the UN. I couldn't agree more. Fission should be the first tech for the modern age. Don't want an unexpected UN vote...

IHT: With science to 90% and a couple of scientists instead of taxmen we can get Motorized Transport in 5 instead of 6 (-303 gpt).

IT: The Russians conquer Lagartero and therefore the furs are in Russian territory now. I will settle where Mad-Bax suggested.

Turn 1 (1355 AD)

IT: The Russians order us to leave their teritory and we jump to a spot where we can settle :)

Turn 2 (1360 AD) Castello Branco founded and harbor rushed.

Turn 3 (1365 AD) Russia got Ironclads :p They may have bought it from Sumeria though. Temple rushed in Castelbranco after it finished the harbor. Furs hooked up, luxury to 0%. Our loss is -219 gpt.

IT: Scandinavia and Maya sign peace.

Turn 4 (1370 AD) Science to 80% (-112 gpt). Getting two extra scientists allows me to get it back to 70% (-4 gpt). Motorized Transport due in 1. Scandinavia has one city left and is at war with Russia. When Russia kills them, everyone is back at peace and the tech pace may increase again.

IT: Russia destroyes the Vikings. They were quicker than expected

Turn 5 (1375 AD) We discover Motorized Transport and are Modern. I sell Motorized Transport to Russia for 2270 gold, 137 gpt and wines.. Russia gets Rocketry as free tech. We start researching Fission (in 10 at -203 gpt).

Turn 6 - 9 (1380 - 1395 AD) Russia discover Amphibious Warfare. This should make it possible to get Fission at first.

Turn 10 (1400 AD) Research to 90% (-126 gpt). Fission in 5. Sumeria is in the Modern Age and gets Ecology as free tech.

Russia has Rocketry over us, but we should be able to get Fission, because Korea lacks two techs.

1400 AD save

Aggie, the mine is at civ radius 3 from Birka so will not cause a war with the Russians. The vikings will get annoyed of course but they will be dead anytime soon so who cares?

When you say things changed I hope it means that Lagartero was razed and not that the Russians have taken the furs.

Edit: sorry crossposted.

The Russians indeed took the city, so they may get mad at us. But the city is defended by an infantry army and we are gradually building up a handsome army. I don't think we have to fear them. It would be a problem regarding income though.

One thing I forgot to mention. Russia is still a Fascist state :hmm:

I'm up? I see it but probably won't get to play until Tuesday night. I won't go looking for any wars if the AIs don't (this also means no tech steals.)

Edit: I suppose we should go for Computers after Fission - any objections? (Actually, I would've done Computers first; we could've bought/stolen Fission and rushed the UN with the GL if we needed to.)

@T-Hawk: I fully support the Computers. I would have gone for it too, but I read comments of the others while playing. I also thought about the risk that we weren't able to buy Fission due too high Deity prices (tech for tech isn't an option) and the chances of a SGL for the AI.

I think it's important to be able to see Uranium as early as possible. We may need a war to secure it. We also need to be able to see aluminium. These are the techs I would get first personally.

I wouldn't rule out the need for a war or three yet. Russia is not going to win a vote AFAICT, but we will not be in the vote unless we build the UN (or take out the Koreans, which is something I am leaning towards now).

I think UN is the worst victory reserved for desperate times. Hammering all your neighbors is best, but space at least feels like a contest..

Inherited turn:

Not much to do. Wake workers and mine Incona for shields. Switch Emerita to the Pentagon; no reason not to build it. Switch a few cities to airports and fighters and flaks; we will *definitely* need air defense if we find ourselves at war.

==========

We get Fission first and rush the UN. No elections as per LK's recommendation. We have uranium.

Big numbers rolling round in the trading scene. Fission for Russia's Rocketry is "close to a deal", but requires 2200 cash on our side to bring up to even. Neither Russia nor Sumeria appears to be researching Fission, so I decide to put our own research into Rocketry for a few turns to blunt the monopoly tech cost.

Russia demands Dyes and I cave.

In 1435 AD, after two turns of our own research on Rocketry, Russia will offer everything they have for our Fission. We get Rocketry, 1744 cash, Spices, and 128/turn. We lack Aluminum, but Russia lacks Uranium.

I then sell Motorized Transportation to Korea fairly cheap (they were already researching it; would not offer Ironclads for it) to put them in the modern age. He pulls Rocketry for free (darn, I hoped he'd get Ecology.) We don't need Ecology immediately and can afford to wait for Sumeria's monopoly to break, so I start max research on Computers.

Emerita is using the Manhattan Project to prebuild for SETI. Swap it from Manhattan to the Palace and back to bleed off excess shields if necessary. (I'd recommend not actually building Manhattan.)

No need for a map posting as it hasn't changed. The entire world is very quiet, almost too quiet...
