LK75 - Deity, world map, civ = TBD

Played 8 turns - took out Darius Klabur with some upgraded knights. NO new cities founded although we have a few settlers at the ready. Have been preparing for a war with Egypt we need to relieve the pressure on the ivory source. 2 phony wars and just started a small war with Persia.

Contact with Abe and the Iroquios. Abe is on par with us in Tech and the Iroquios aren't to the Middle ages yet. India is rich and just started Smiths. I have been putting our gold into upgrading knights. Was hoping to see some tech opportunities but none have come up. We need to get moving on tech and maybe a point stick vs. Cleo would do the trick. That and getting our 120gpt back from France.

Will have the rest done tomorrow.

Hotrod.

250 AD (0): With a war with Persia on the brink I build an embassy for 84 gold. Many pikes strong culture with sistenes, a library and soon to be university. No gold. Diplo check and all is status quo, can pick up Republic from china for Mono and Engineering but we really don't need it now.

260 AD (1): Baped builds a worker starts another. Hlobane builds a knight starts a cathedral, needs a scientist now and will grow and riot next turn so get the cath in place now. Ngome a market starts a pike. New Isandhlwana a baracks starts a pike. Spend some gold and upgrade 4 knights at 120 a pop !

270 AD (2): An aztec ship is blocking our safe path to NA. Bapedi builds a worker. BTW Bapedi is building a worker every turn at size 6 during the golden age, very nice. Moving our knight to the East to take take of the pesky Persian city and think about moving on Egypt soon. NO deals but getting close to the New world.

280 AD (3): Baped a worker, Swazi a duct starts a pike. Umtata a market starts a pike. uh Oh India is building Magellan's. We are 1 turn away from Abe.

290 AD (4): Babylon wants an alliance vs Russia I decline. 2 false wars are enough thanks. Ulundi and Zimbabwe build knights. Intombe builds a duct starts a granary. :wallbash: didn't notice before but New Ulundi builds a regular pike starts a barracks. [dance] Contact with Abe and we are ahead in tech by Engineering and chivalry. Will contact the Iroquios next turn I think. Sending Knights to visit the Persians but I think Egypt war will be sooner rather than later.

300 AD (5): Baped continues with workers, Ngome builds a pike starts another. Contact with the Iroquios. They are horribly backward and lack Polytheism but are up Republic. Upgrade another knight. Being Broke really hurts out tech position. But I think the Knights should be ready to hit Persia soon and then move to take a bite out of some Egypt territory.

310 AD (6):  Zim riots and I scroll ahead to check the others and many many others were on the verge. Fix them with taxmen and the like but we lost our Ivory source? Its not WW! No the ivory isn't connected so it must be the start of WW. Not really sure what it is but upped lux to 10%. Declare on Persia and

320 AD (7): India demands and gets our territory map. Isandhlwana builds a cath starts a knight. New Zim a harbor gets a temple. India has 3K in gold and just started Smiths. Dariush Kabir is razed killing 3 pikes and a Immortal without losing a single HP. No leader for our elite horsey. Still no trades possible. upgrade 2 more knights. France wants our entire bank account, 4 gold.

330 AD (8): Have a settler in position but do not settle. Too much pressure from Egypt. Need to take care of a few cities. But not quite yet, but soon. Decide to change Ngome to knights. Not much to do on the tech front until the France deal is done.

340 AD (9): Egypt is taking a few odd movements not sure what to make of it. Same goes for Sogahi. Our worker town keeps on pumping. Hlobane builds a cathedral starts knight. Swazi build a pike starts a knight. Umfolozi build a duct starts a courthouse. Ibabanago a temple starts a baracks. Amatikulu a courthouse starts a temple. Missed a size 3 town of New Mpondo riots, need to be hooked up for lux. Gets a scientist. Songhai build Leos. Continue to move Knights towards the front. I think next turn we can take a stab at giving our ivory town some cultural relief :hammer:.

350 AD (10): Our Golden age is over :(. And now we are suddenly broke way way broke. Thankfully our payments to Joanie end in two turns and a nothing better than a good war to shed some unit support. We are ready for war with Egypt IMO but I did not declare. Lee can make the final call we have 2 sets of 5-6 Knights on the Yellow boarder with more in production and settlers at the ready. Exploration continues in the New World as I just let out our horsey to go make new friends as the boat continues south. Change Bapedi to a courthouse away from the worker to avoid wasting shields.

War happiness ran out from our phony wars with Australia and / or China.

I am not the least bit surprised. This is the same reason I wanted to avoid any more GPT payments until the end of the GA.

350 AD
Our cities are corrupted to death. Outside of that I really don't see any problems with our cities.

I send Monotheism to the Iroquois, and get The Republic in return. This is one of those because I can trades.

I pick up $60 and tm from India for our world map.

 Why did we choose invention for our token tech research? Cavalry is the more important goal and I would have preferred to delay research on the top of the tree.

I hate phony wars with a passion, but I can't get rid of the ones with China or Australia for the moment.

Ivoria goes to walls in preparation for the coming war. It will be a bit for the war with Egypt, as I was left with Ivoria very poorly defended with just horseman.

360 AD
The only trading is wm to India for $3.
(IT) Russia and Babylon sign peace.

370 AD
The only trading is wm to India for $2. Theology could be bought, but I want to save money for alliances. I wonder who the victim would be. :satan:
(IT) China kills on of our scouts. This is why I hate phony wars. I would have preferred to map more of Siberia.
Persia comes asking for peace and I give it to him. The goal has been accomplished.
The Songhai is building Smith's. :(

380 AD
Babylon and Persia will also buy our maps. The tech hole is getting worse. I do take advantage and get some token cash and more territory maps.
America has built a city somewhere on our continent as I have the option buy a worker.

I establish and embassy with India for $83. They have access to four luxuries. The city has 2 elephants and 6 muskets. The city is well developed with cathedral, bank and university.
(IT) Babylon is building Smith's and Magellan's.

390 AD
I sell our maps around for $5. This helps a little toward $120 for a knight upgrade.

400 AD
I get $16 from our maps this time. Every penny helps to get us out of this horrid tech hole.

I demand Egypt leave our territory and they do. I was hoping for some war happiness. I simply declare war on Egypt. I ship Babylon $13/turn to join the fight. The Songhai want over $30/turn so I pass.

The war starts horridly has a single spearman kills 2 horses and retreats 2 knights. I still barely manage to clear the stray units near New Isandhlwana. I capture 2 workers near Lisht. I flawlessly kill the 5 defenders and Lisht is razed to the ground for $1 and 1 worker. I capture 2 workers near Buto that I hope will make it home.
(IT) The totals losses were one exposed horseman.

410 AD
New Ngome is formed.
I rush a barracks in Ivoria.

A musket appears at Buto. This is bad news as we will face some muskets fighting Egypt. It cost us one knight, but Buto is razed for $0 and 3 more workers. You can never have too many workers.

The Songhai has joined the map trading partners. I only pick up $6 this turn.

420 AD
I am feeling so stretched with cash spending decisions. This turn I do another knight upgrade. I know we still desperately need more embassies.

No assaults this as I feel the troops get some badly needed R&R.

We are screwed as the Ivory connection through the Songhai somehow broke. I have to hire several clowns in corrupt cities.

Once again the only trading is picking up some pocket change for world maps. I check every turn hoping for something such as Greece researching Theology before Chivalry to give us leverage toward another tech.
(IT) The ivory becomes available again.
Cash rich India completes Smith's.

430 AD
New Swazi is formed.
Our elite horseman commits perfect suicide not even knocking of 1 hp from a MDI.

We have a new first contact with Venezuela. I can't trade any techs, but they are only at parity with us. We are starting to have tech laggards to deal with. The only civs left to meet are Brazil and Argentina.

The price for peace with China is down to just $40. I sign peace to end the phony war. I then pick up a nice chunk of change for horses - $65 and $42/turn.

I ship horses to Russia along with $64/turn and get Invention. I ship Invention to America and get Theology and $13.

I establish and Embassy with Russia for $123. They only have 4 pikes for defense, 2 luxuries, and they haven't built a bank.
(IT) Persia starts Magellan's.
We lost an Impi when an Egyptian musket attacks us.

440 AD
LAK-501.jpg

Need I even state that we have our first army?

Edfu is razed to the ground for $0 and 4 more workers. I also raze Abydos for $0 and yet another 4 workers. :D

France and Russia have joined the map trading partners list. The France territory map reveals a surprise as I didn't realize that European Germany is gone.

I am not going to break our alliance with Babylon, but I notice Egypt will already surrender their wm. However, I won't be happy unless we get a minimum of Education or Gunpowder. The choice will be the one that gives us a two for one possibility.

I spend $72 and get an embassy with Venezuela. They have iron and horses. I am surprised to see the have ivory. There must already be a legal route across the ocean. The have a lot of swords and are building MDI. They are a non-player with just 2 cities. I recover some of the embassy cost by selling our wm around again.

450 AD
I build an iron colony. I thought I could trade someone the iron, but no good deals are around yet. New Tugela is formed.

Egypt is nice enough to let me kill a settler pair.

Map trading nets $11. When you consider our spare income is $67/turn you appreciate the cash. This puts me over the top to build an embassy with the Mongols. They are in deep trouble with just 2 buildings, 4 defending pikes and a clown overload. The war they have with China is killing them.

Summary:
We are in deep hole with tech. I hope horses continue to help to get even with tech.

I hope Meldor enjoys 10 turns of fighting. I felt we had to make a big push versus Egypt and that required a distraction. So far Babylon has been the perfect ally gaining nothing at all. I hope Egypt survives with one or two cities at the end so that we can pick up more techs. The biggest problem fighting Egypt so far has been a poor road network. I fixed several of the gaps. We still need to build more roads for flexibility in Africa.

Our galley is past Cuba. I hope to hear contact with Brazil and / or Argentina soon.

The white line in the picture marks the limit where the hopelessly corrupt cities begin. Our economy is in weak. To improve it we want to hire taxmen in all the cities above the white line one the city maxes out in population for the size 6 cities. Each taxman will add $2 to our coffers. Each new city will add $2 in unit support. If we are to catch up in tech we need to get a lot of specialist in to play. NO mining above this line.
LAK-502.jpg

450 AD (0)
Fix a couple of cities. Do some MM to get us a few more gpt. Not much on the Diplo screen. The good News is that we lready have a discount on Gunpowder, the bad new...we still can't afford it. Lee has set me up to take one city next turn, I am shocked that Egypt hasn't harder than this. Didn't they get both unit wonders?
(I)I think we have hit the point where all the expansion is done. Now the continous wars start and we take over the game. Australia declares on India. Egyptians try to kill an knight with an MDI and fail. They send some spears in to pillage. Zimbabwe settler->settler. Isandhlwana and Intombe Pike->Pike. The Songhai start Magellan's and the French strat Bach's. India completes Magellan's.

460 AD (1)
The city of Busirus is razed and the Egyptians are broke. We do get 3 more slaves.
(I) Not much happening. Hlobane Knight->Knight. Ngome Harbor->Aqueduct. The Babs Indians and Songhai swap to Bach's

470 AD (2)
I build an embassy with the French, they are usually the best trading parner. Paris is size 12 but is over irrigated and only pulls 10 shields. It is building a settler. We can get gunpowder now for peace and 67gpt, but we still have an alliance. The Mongols swap us World Maps and fill in a lot of SE Asia for us. We settle New Ulmata in front of a Songhai settler. We don't want to open up too much land in front of them unless we have settlers in place. I put two units to stop the Songhai settler from using the open roads. Gathering some troops to go after the next city. The rest of the troops are healing.
(I)The Songhai and India ally against Australia. Two Egyptian longbows die attmeping to kill our knights. Greece demands Iron, I tell him to keep throwing stones and he backs down. Isandhlwana pike->pike

We do get 3 more slaves.
I willl never argue with hearing that.

The Mongols swap us World Maps and fill in a lot of SE Asia for us.
While I hate being behind in tech, I won't argue with another map trading partner. Everyone is a few potential bucks for us. Even the tm help to let us know what the world looks like.

You can thank auto-boot. The Iroquois keep kicking us out and bounced me all over the place. As long as I can keep mapping the world out I don't care where it is. ;)

@Lee

Did you use version 2F of your biq file for this game?
I just downloaded that .biq and the small world size is set to a OCN of 24 and the Tech Rate is 40.

Perhaps you modified the .biq you used for this game after posting 2F in your other thread...

Just thought you might want to know that.

480 AD (3)
I disband a scout which has nowhere to go and has no way home. I could take out Giza but I will wait until I can get a settler up to take its place. The cost of gunpowder has dropped to 57gpt.
(I)Ulundi Temple->Harbor, Intombe pike->pike, Mpondo Courthouse->Aqueduct, Isipezi Rax->Settler

490 AD (4)
The Songhai settler is retreating. I will give it one more turn. We need to stop making settlers in the capital and start making them in the outer lands. The settler it builds this turn will be its last for a while. I make peace with Australia for 40g so we don't have to worry about them.
(I) Germany demands Iron and I tell them to take a hike. Zimbabwe settler->temple. We get hit by WW and I scroll ahead to save the rest of the cities. Isandhlwana Pike->Pike, Swazi Market->Harbor. New Bapedi Aqueduct->Market. The Songahi settler starts back our way.

500 AD (5)
New Umfolozi is founded now maybe the settler will go home. I up the lux tax and then redo the cities to get the money back. We contact Brazil and as usual they are beihnd. They still need construction. I get another settler in place. Next turn I should be able to restart the assualt on Egypt. I build an embassy with China. They are building riders and have only two luxes so their size 7 city has 2 clowns.
(I)The Egyptians send a pike and musket this time. Umtata Aqueduct->Knight, Imtombe temple->settler.

510 AD (6)
New Ibabanago is founded. We go back on the attack. First we raze Giza gaining no money and 6 slaves. We then raze Hieraconpolis. This time we get a whopping 1g and cat and 2 slaves. I then kill off a longbow and a musket. In all of this, we do lose 2 knights.
(I)China joins India against Australia. It is a good thing I didn't make a deal with the Germans as the French vote them off the planet. The Egyptains and Songhai ally against the Australians, I wonder if any of them are actually sending troops. A longbow takes out one of our knights. The get the message for the Heroic Epic. The Russians demand TM and 24g. I give it to her, we don't need a dogpile. Isandhlwana Pike->HE, New Isandhlwana Temple->settler. The Persians and Russians start Bach's.

520 AD (7)
We kill the offending longbow and get ready to attack the next town. Make an embassy with Australia (they need a trading partner). I move units to block the Songhai settler.
(I) Ulundi Harbor->galley, Hlobane Knight->Knight

530 AD (8)
We found New Isipezi. Three knights attack and win against muskets. We get 2 elite knights and Elephantine is razed. We get 5 more slaves and another cat. It seems the price for gunpowder has dropped to 37gpt. We still have 7 more turns of alliance.
(I) Intombe Pike->Pike, Amatikulu temple=>aqueduct, New Ulundi Courthouse->Market. The Egyptians and Australians start Bach's.

540 AD (9)
The next city to go is Byblos. It was on a hill and cost us one of our elite knights. A check reveals that they will now give up Education for 28gpt and we can almost get Education. We meet Argentina but they are backwards.
(I) Brazil declares on Venezuela. The Chinese and Mongols make happy. Swazi Harbor->Knight

550 AD (10)
Get 2 more settlers close. Move some troops up to go towards the next city. I didn't do diplo this turn.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads8/LK75-550AD.zip

It seems the price for gunpowder has dropped to 37gpt.

Once the Babylon alliance is done I would take the tech that gives us a two for one deal for the other. I hope there is a least one civ out there lacking one of the two.

We need to stop making settlers in the capital and start making them in the outer lands. The settler it builds this turn will be its last for a while.
I am not sure where you are proposing to make the settlers from. Do you mean the hopelessly corrupt cities? I don't want to depend on those for setter at 30 turns each one.

Then the best tech would be Printing Press as that is the one that is only known by a few but I don't think Egypt knows it (can't remember).

I am proposing that, if we get enough of the corrupt cities building settlers then we can rush them when the shields build enough to bring the cost down. With the corruption being so heavy in this game we can not afford to have our only corruption free city sitting at size 4 and building settlers. We need those shields. Shields will get us the cash to rush the settlers until we have 30-40 settler building towns.

I am proposing that, if we get enough of the corrupt cities building settlers then we can rush them when the shields build enough to bring the cost down.
We simply can't afford to rush settlers. The economy just plain sucks. We need that cash to catch up in tech. We are still short embassies. I just don't see where the spare cash is going to come from.

While I hate tying the capitol up for settlers I don't simply can't see us cash rushing settlers. I think the capitol needs to be going on at least until some of those other cities are close.

Well, in spite of the war or because I wasn't pushing it too fast due to the alliance, we have been pushing mostly infrastructure in the core cities. Income went from the low 60's to the upper 80's based on the new cities and the markets.

Don't forget the Thebes has both of the unit wonders and we could use those (at least until Cav.

IHT: We need a luxury. Buy American Dyes for Ivory + 9 gpt. We get 6 gold in change. Our gpt rises to +96 gpt. Sell contact with Argentina and maps around for some bucks.

IBT:
Zimbabwe finishes temple and goes back to settler production.

[1] 560 AD - We fail to capture Memphis. Venezuela now has Gunpowder, but lacks Theology. I buy it of Venezuela for Theology + 392 gold + 21 gpt. We have 1 source of Saltpeter. Nezt turn (if Memphis falls) we'll have 2. And 2 extra Ivory sources. Make some cash selling our TM + WM to everyone who can buy it.

IBT: India kicks us out. Apologise and use the possibility to sell TM for 1 gold.
America and Venezuela MA Vs Brazil. Iroquois kick us out.

[2] 570 AD - Our scouting horseman jumped to an island. Not much to see there. Memphis is ours. I raze it of course. We get 6 workers and 2 cats. And Egypt has lost Alexandria (in Saudi Arabia) to Babylon. That will remove some cultural pressure from our new cities there.
Build Memphiszulu on the Memphis location. It has Saltpeter.
Build New Amatikulu, to get 2 Ivory.
Traderoutes to the America's have opened, and there are techs to be traded.
Buy Chemistry from the Aztecs for Ivory + Horses + 82 gpt + 99 gold.
Trade China Saltpeter + Chemistry for Gems + Education + 1 gold.
I down lux to 0%.
Trade Education for Printing Press with Venezuela.
Sell Contact with Iro to Greece for 1gpt + 9 gold.
Sell Contact with Argentina to Iro's for 21 gold.
Sell Mongols Chemistry for 12 gold + Mongol WM. This is a gamble in the hope to get some more land exposed in the America's. And we do !! The whole of North and South America is revealed.
Sell the map around. First TM and then WM (about 20 times round) netting us a really big map and about 200 gold and 3gpt.

IBT: Iro's kick our horse out. I don't care; we have the world map.
Egypt starts Bach's  In Pithom. In Scotland !!

[3] 580 AD - a quiet turn; troops are healing or blocking Songhai settlers. workers irrigate. Sell Map around for another 40 gold and more map info.

IBT: Iro's kick us our again. Chinese want to talk: ok. Are we interested in Rop+Alliance Vs Australia. No. Babylonian knight attacks Thebes and looses, but makes 3/3 musket 2/3. good.

[4] 590 AD - We don't capture Thebes; it is well defended. Reinforcements are on the way. But Thebes could get lost to the Babylonians.

IBT: Russia and India MA Vs Australia. Babylonian SoD of 5 knights, 2 longbows and 2 muskets are next to Thebes.
Australia wants us to Rop and MA Vs Songhai. No. Instead I trade our TM for WM.

[5] 600 AD - Alliance with Babylon ends this turn. I cancel it. We get 13 gpt back.
Thebes: I decide to not attack. I only have a 9/14 army and 1 4/4 knight. Sending 6 knights to help the attack next turn.
Found New Zunquin in a whole near Songhai lands (and settler). Locate an Egyptian city in the Pacific...
Intombe gets a taxman to prevent riots. No trades possible. Except TM and (repeated) WM sales; it nets us 67 gold.

IBT: Babylonian - Egypt war reveal 4 Egyptian muskets (2 killed by Babs) and 1 or 2 longbows. We can capture it now !
India starts Newton.

[6] 600 AD - Battle of Thebes. We defeat 2 muskets, 2 spears and 1 crusader and capture Thebes. We keep this city. It is a huge flip risk (5,8%), but the 2 Wonders are just too nice. Egyptian capital moves to El-Amarna, in Western Tunesia; not very close. Thebes is under pressure from Heliopolis, Pi-Ramesses and Babylonian Eridu. If we can stop the resistance we need to rush culture there.
Selling our TM and WM (repeatedly) nets us about 70 gold.

I'm going to stop here. We still have horses + Iron + Ivory on offer and can buy furs from Australia. And we can make peace with Egypt (if desired. I'll leave that up to the next player.

These intensive turns took me 5 1/2 hours. But I think We're back.
2 luxes imported, pretty good finances (632 gold; +67gpt), nearly complete WM, Gunpowder + Chemistry + Education + Printing Press and we've captured Thebes. That's enough for me.

The Save 610 AD

I would say that we need to kill the rest of th Egyptian towns in Africa or at least the ones near Thebes. Next up are the Songhai again and we have a realy long border with them now. Maybe get some muskets in to help on the start of the war.

It would be most good if we could control all of Africa before Cav. That would put the Bullseye directly on Babylon.
