LK79 - Mongols - 5CC Deity.

I got a chance to look at the game and notice that we are still at war with the English. They will shortly have rifles, and Keshiks are pretty much useless against rifles. I see no alliances against them. What isn't clear is what are goal is.

I think we should start self-researching Metallurgy. We can drop the luxury tax to 0%, switch Kazan to cathedral, and research it in 17 turns @50%. The research rate could easily drop with building some universities. If nothing else partial research will lower the buying price from the AI.

We should end some of these phony wars. I hate having 2 tradable wines not being uses, not to mention spare horses that would help.

I looked at the trading question of microbe. The Aztecs with no techs of value want iron, and the English want our spare horses. I can find NO visible sources of Spanish iron, so I think that is what the Spanish / Viking trade is about.

Unfortunately I am not able to play before heading out of town for the holidays. I will be without web access an will not be available before next Tuesday.

Not that unexpected. Thanksgiving and Christmas are rough on all gaming. I know my Thanksgiving weekend will be busy.

preturn: my goodness, I thought we were playing an AW game for a while.

I don't understand why we are building Heroic Epic. We are 5 CC, so we'll basically only have one army. I switch it to University.

England and Persia have a lot of gold. I sign peace with Persia and get 20g. I sign peace with England and pay 220g.

I'm not quite sure about our worker actions. Ta-tu has hit size 12 and we are still irrigating while leaving hills unimproved!

I sell Wines to Persia for 19gpt. Wines to England for incense+1gpt+6g. This allowes us to drop lux to 0.

I keep research at 0 but will start full when our first university comes online in 4 turns. This would make better use of our money and get the tech at the same time.

Now I start purely infra.

IBT I cancel RoP with Spain. Vikings start Newton's.

(1)660AD: IBT Hitties and Persia MA against Vikings.

IBT Spain kicks us out.

(2)670AD: hire a scientist in Tabriz and start Colosseum.

IBT our curragh defeats Korean caraval and promotes! Korea declares on England. Nice! Vikings and England MA against Korea.

(3)680AD: IBT not good, Vikings and Spain MA against us! We lose the silks and capital riots. But we only get two attacks and win both.

(4)690AD: Keshik 1/4 kills musket and promotes. Keshik 2/3 kills musket. Keshik 4/2 loses to musket.

IBT Hitties and England MA vs Korea. England captures a small town from Spain. Persia and Hitties MA vs Korea. We lose a keshik fortified outside of our city to Conquistator - this damn "taking everything as road" thing is too annoying.

(5)700AD: We retreat two keshiks, but with army we kill two muskets and raze Zaragoza. We get 5 slaves.

I raise sci to 80 and Metallurgy in 8 turns with -93gpt.

Upgrade a horse.

IBT Aztecs demand Banking. I tell it to go away and it declares on us. It won't have any threat. Spain captures its town back.

(6)710AD: fire specialists. Lose a keshik but kill some units and capture a treb.

Vikings have an extra saltpeter, so I sign peace with Vikings by 280g. I trade wines for saltpeter+123g. I then upgrade 5 pikes to 5 musketmen by 450g.

IBT Conquistator captures our workers but we'll get them back next turn.

(7)720AD: Kill longbow/settler pair.

IBT Our 3 keshiks in Spain-Hitties territory get killed.

(8)730AD: WW rises so buy furs from Persia by WM+11gpt+12g.

We lose one keshik, retreat another but kill two muskets and raze Cordoba.

Spain agrees to talk now but we'll not stop yet.

I shut off research for now as we may get Metallurgy for free?

IBT Spain pillags one of our horses. Our elite horse is killed by longbow.

(9)740AD: We lose 2 keshiks but kill 3 muskets and raze Seville. We got 8 slaves. Lose an elite keshik to Conquistator!

Now Spain's territory has been cut in half!

We can now get Metallurgy from Spain for 298g. I make peace as I don't think we can make much more offense, and I don't want to hurt it too much to let England grow big.

Most AI have Military Tradition (but not Spain), and the good thing is Hitties and England do not have horses so no cav on our continent yet.

England really has a lot of gold (more than 10K) but it offers the best price so I buy Military Tradition by WM+85gpt+563g.

I debated with myself whether to give Spain horses, but it's really worth a lot, so I go for it. Military Tradition+horses for Astronomy+341g. Spain has its native horses anyway which it must be selling to someone, and could connect the 2nd horses in no time.

I start researching Physics in 19 turns.

IBT Hitties wants to renew peace, sure.

(10)750AD: disband 2 warriors.

Now we are only at war with Korea and Aztecs. We should stay so until we want to lift Korea into Industrial Ages or trade with Aztecs (still wouldn't talk, and I forget which tech it has).

I shut off research this turn as we have another university come online soon, and then resume.

We have horses pillaged, but I am not sure whether we want to connect it, as England/Hitties may demand from us.

Things look very good. AIs are busy fighting each other. We should prepare for a force of cavalry and wipe out AI on our continent. I haven't seen any rifles, but it may appear soon.

I probably missed some MM at last turn.

760 AD
Merge two natural workers and Almarikh is now at optimal size 12.

770AD
(IT) The Vikings complete Newton's.

780 AD
Merge two natural workers and size 10. This is the best it can do until the church is completed.

790 AD
I just realized that we are still short of embassies. I build an embassy with Persia. Persepolis is defending by *7* rifles. It has almost all available buildings completed along with Leo's and Zeus. They have horses and iron, but no saltpeter.

I build an embassy with the Vikings. They have build most of the needed buildings along with Smith's, Newton's and the Pyramids. It is defended by 3 rifles, and 3 muskets. They have saltpeter and iron, but no horses.

It is time to get back on the offensive, so I sign a RoP with Spain costing $7/turn.
(IT) I watch an English Man-o-War win a battle.

810 AD
(IT) Aztecs and Persia ally vs. Spain.

830 AD
The traffic jam is just too bad, and I decide to recall our troops. We can't do much unless we help our Spanish friends fix the road net in the south.

==========================

Summary:
The phony war with the Aztecs continues as they want us to pay.
The phony war with the Koreans continues as I hope they will get Navigation and that we can get a decent world map during peace.

We are stuck unless we either beat up Spain again, or send our workers protected by an army to build a better road net in the south.

I think that is the best option, to build roads in foreign countries, but I have to see what's going on before I decide.

I got it.

Pre-turn - By working river-tiles and oceans we gain another 12gpt, without any effects on builds.

Workers are scattered around like the AI handles them, wake up a few to let them work in stacks.

Wines to Xerxes is on last turn, he won't pay gpt, so I sell it for 196g and his TM.

Rush cathedral in for 132g.

Buy Physics from England for wines, 20gpt and 165g as we won't need their incense anymore.
No research.

870AD - Spain sign peace with Hittites and England.

Various peace-treaties are signed by the other civs now and again.

920AD - Saltpeter deal with Vikings expires, renew it for wines and 19gpt.

930AD - England starts Universal Suffrage!

I renew furs-deal with Persia.

Persia takes a couple of spanish tundra-cities N of us.

Kazan finally got a courthouse, start building cannons, the other cities build cavs.

940AD - Vikings demands and get 50g.

We got 85gpt back from England, what can I do now?

Hittites knows ToG, so I buy Magnetism from England for 85gpt and 665g.
Reneg peace with Hittites and trade Tog for Magnetism and horses.

Peace and ToG to Korea for Navigation, WM and some gold.

And we enter a new age. Persia, England and Vikings all knows the first tier techs. No deals possible.

Not much happened as I couldn't be bothered sending our slaves to build roads for the AI.
We can possibly help Korea to get into IA and lower techprices at least.

There's a horse that can be colonized, dunno if Spain will risk build a city around there.

In Kazan, you have to play around with the working tiles, kinda messy city even if we found a BG under the jungle.

I suppose Spain has to go next, we are strong compared in military. They also have saltpeter, that is rightfully ours :)

930AD - England starts Universal Suffrage!
Now that is depressing news. To make it worse it will be 20 turns to we can even attempt to research fast / purchase steam power. We do have a debate of researching at 30% to at least get a discount of beakers built up.

I notice the Aztecs still refuse straight up peace. The longer that phony war the better chance the Aztecs will drag someone else in.

Preturn- I take peace with the Aztecs, swapping Metallurgy for Economics in the process.

IT- The capitol riots, as we must have lost war happiness from the Aztecs. I scroll ahead and prevent the rest.

T1 960

Raise lux to 10%. Not much else.

IT- Spain fights Persia in the north.

T2 970

English Incense combined with Korean spices allows us to kill the lux tax.

IT- Vikes start Uni Suff

T3 980

Nothing much to do.

IT- Nothing new

T4 990

I cancel the RoP with Spain.

IT- zzz

T5 1000

Spain has no troops in our territory, so I'll wait another turn and hopefully we'll have enough to make them declare.

IT- Jackpot, Spain leaves one cav in our territory.

T6 1010

We ask Isabella to leave, and she declares.

I kill several of he exposed cavs. In killing one next to the Persian town of Borazjan, I discover much to my disgust that it is defended by Infantry. Not good. Tech pace is even worse than we thought.

The freshly founded town of Almeria is also razed.

IT- We lose a few cav in the Spanish counter attack.

T7 1020

We take out more stray cavs, and raze the city of Valencia.

IT- We lose a couple cavs

T8 1030

We suffer some horrid rng luck and lose a few cavs killling weakened Spanish cavs.

IT- We don't lose anything

T9 1040

We raze a northern Spanish city. Not much else.

IT- zzz

T10 1050

Our cannons hit twice, and our Keshiks finish the job with no losses in razing Barcelona.

Summary

We've founded a Silks colony, and next turn we can found a Saltpeter colony to end our dependence on Scandinavian saltpeter. Spain is looking pretty dead now, we can push them around as we wish. We should probably beat them until we can get Medicine from them. Getting another leader would also be nice so we could upgrade our Keshik army to a cav army.

I discover much to my disgust that it is defended by Infantry. Not good. Tech pace is even worse than we thought.
Unreal this is getting at bad as the last 5CC. What is going on with 5CC games and out of control tech pace?

I got a chance to look at the game. We are at war with Spain and the very mobile conquistadors. Please wake the worker stack near Almarikh and put them by Tabriz which is a far as we can get them from the Spanish border. I don't want the AI to kill that many workers.

I prefer to get rails over Medicine. We need both of them anyway to try for an outside shot at ToE.

We do need to beat Spain up more as they still want ~$75/turn in peace for Steam. It is still a nice discount as England is doubtful at $115/turn.

I got a chance to look at the game. We are at war with Spain and the very mobile conquistadors.

This happened to me and luckily the workers were recaptured.

Those conquistators are really sneaky. They can get to 6 tiles inside your borders from anywhere.

@6thGenTexan - Any update? You had 2 nights to work on it.

It's that busy time of year.

Move workers and protect exposed cav.

Persians demand wines but get war. We lose some lux but get 11GPT back.

1060AD Kazan cannon-->cannnon Almarkih, Tabriz cav-->cav Move troops towards Madrid and Borazjan.

1070AD Karakorum, Ta-Tu muskets for our colonies. Promote a cav on a spanish spear. Kill a rifle leaving Borazjan.

Perssians start ToE.

1080AD Kill two Persian infantry and a cav in Borazjan for a promotion, 493g and one slave. Kill a longbow outside of Madrid.

IBT Aztecs capture Santiago and attack Madrid but they are before the Spanish so the devfenders heal for us.

1090AD Kazan cannon Almarikh musket-->cav Cannons go 2/3 leaving a reg musket. Army kills 3 reg muskets. Elite Keshik loses 2-5. Cavs kill 3 more muskets losing one and retreating from a second. There are at least 3 more defenders to go. Kill a persian rifle that did not arrive in Borazjan in time.

IBT England declares on Persia and starts ToE.

1100AD Karakorum, Ta-Tu musket-->cav Kill the last two defenders in Madrid and destroy the Mousolum, Oracle and Magellens. WE can have Medicine now but will try for a good price on Steam. Kill another Spanis Cav. Promote a cav on an Immortal.

IBT The Spanish kill a cav.

1110AD Tabriz cav Lose and Ecav to a Persian rifle. 2nd wins.

IBT Hittites poach the land between our silks and salt.

1120AD Kazan cannons Kill a pillaging Persian. Lose a vet cav but kill a Spanish Ecav. REnegotioate our deals with Rangar w/o the need for salt. Will not pay GPT for our wines so I buy Medicine for 30GPT, wines and 1990g.

1130AD Almarikh cavs

IBT Defeat two spanish troops.

1140AD Karakorum, Ta-Tu cavs Bombardment of Salamanca fails miserably but we have enough to take the town for seven slaves and a promotion. Destroy Persian landing party by Tabriz.

IBT renew peace with Hittites. English take over the poaching town.

1150 Kazan cannons.

Spain is ready to give us Music and Steam for peace or we can continue to fight. All full troops have not moved.
