I've had this happen not only in this installation, but in a previous installation before. I upgraded to 1.52 just a few weeks ago and it still happens.

It'll happen randomly, but I can expect it to happen when I click on military advisor or almost any of the other screens. What happens is the screen barely loads up, the computer slows down, and it becomes impossible to play. I'm not talking about impossible as in it's slow but playable, but impossible as it's super jerky and half the textures don't show up. The transparent screens flash in and out and it's even hell to get task manager to end the Civilization4.exe process.

I run windowed mode, only because if I ran fullscreen I wouldn't be able to get task manager up to kill the process :)

My system specs are as follows

CPU: (2) AMD Athlon XP 1800+ @ 1.53ghz
RAM: (2) 512mb DDR
VIDEO: GeForce 5900XT
SOUND: Audigy

I meet the requirements and I can play other games relatively fine. If anyone can shed any light on the issue, I'd be very appreciative.

Just a suggestion. How big is your swap file? You should have at least 1024MB set as the minimum size (twice the size of your physical RAM space), and I would not be adverse to 1536MB for this game if you play huge maps, even though larger swap spaces should be avoided as they take longer to search. Defrag your swap drive first, then set both the minimum and maximum to the same size. That way you create a contiguous swap space which enables smoother and faster swaps than letting the system manage it on it's own. You change the swap file settings from the "Properties" of "My Computer" under the "Advanced" tab.

I always had page file disabled.

I guess I'll enable it at 1.5gb and see how it runs, thanks!
