"... looking to the heavens, and seeing the towering volcano of ash and smoke, they knew the world was changing. All the more reason, to fight for the old ways.
First Age: Year 30
War! War on many fronts, war in many places, death and tears and sweat! These are the tidings of a new decade of this Age. War of brothers. The nations of the Kingdom of Argulum and the Argulic Confederacy clashed in the icy seas of the north.
The people of Argulum have raised their fists to the skies, and resolved to become great. At the helm of this golden age of Argulumic expansionism is the High Queen Octeny, who came about with the death of their previous ruler. Whether or not this death was entirely natural has been debated behind closed doors for some time now. Regardless, Queen Octeny and her ministry have proven themselves to be more than competent leaders. Known to her public with affection as the Strong Bear, she has introduced a series of military, political, and domestic reforms. First and foremost being the creation of Organikism, an adaptation of the Orginism that Argulic peoples have practiced for many years. Making the royal family demigods, she has made the government of Argulum a theocracy, and increased the confidence and piety of the people. (+2 Religious Strength, +1 Nationhood/Loyalty)
The creation of the church of Organikism has given rise to a powerful caste of church-nobles who thankfully for the Kingdom, fanatically serve High Queen Octeny. (+1 Religious Strength). Expanding like a disease through the Isles, and through the mainland, Argulum has become a great power, its blood red banners flying from almost every corner of the north. Digging irrigation networks at home, their population grows with the new-found ability to feed all the mouths of the Kingdom! (+1 Population) Expanding north and west, they enslave the native population, putting them to work on building a great fleet (+1 Navy). Queen Octeny and her ministry introduce a draft, but the people are all-too-happy to serve their glorious High Queen, and when the forces of the ministry arrive at towns and villages, the people literally throw themselves at the feet of their mounts to be chosen to serve. (+1 Army)
Building a series of forts along the border of the Kingdom with the sea, the people of Argulum become well-defended against naval attack. At the behest of the High Queen, a great city is built along one of the Kingdom's principal rivers. Called Argula, this city becomes the capital of the Kingdom, wherein the High Queen establishes the centers of her ministry and church. Immigration to the city or its suburbs, as well as a high birthrate, increase their population. (+1 Population) The beginning of a massive project, the Palace of Argula, further increases the confidence and loyalty of the people. (+1 Nationhood/Loyalty).
It is only right that war should come to this overly-prosperous people. In Year 28 of this Age, a Confederate fleet at the command of Sea-Lord Geddon Nenole attempted to assault the eastern forts of the now-called Argulumic Isles. Geddon's forces are met with the defenders, and their fleet is burnt by arrow-fire (-1 Confederate navy), though managing to land on the beach and decimate the greener Argulumic warriors (-1 Argulumic army) they are ultimately driven back to the sea. More battles are fought, although of little consequence compared to the battle that it is said the Confederacy plans. All eyes turn to the relatively-undefended seaport of Hastilgons...
To the east, the Makadic Horde meet battle against the inhabitants of this strange new land for the first time. The people of Salvonic introduce a series of military reforms, giving the King complete power for the duration of the war, and creating a war tax. Though politically unpopular, the people are more than willing to pay for the defense of their Kingdom, and it serves to increase national loyalty. (+1 Nationhood/Loyalty). The government also spreads propaganda to the effect that the Makadic people serve the antagonist deity of Salvonic religion, and alongside a draft, the people gallantly line up to serve Xelo and country. (+2 Army).
The two forces meet in eastern Salvonic. The carnage is terrible. The Great Ravane, at the van of his forces, leads cavalry charge after cavalry charge into the Salvonic levies, decimating the Salvonic army. Despite overwhelming odds, the Salvonicans fight with honor and brutality to match their antagonizers. As these forces divert attention, Salvonic raiders liberate many towns held under the yoke of the Makadi. Sadly, despite the great efforts of the Salvonic army, many of these towns are retaken, and the Salvonic are ultimately pushed back the border.
Warmia suffers a civil war with the death of the lord that had up until now maintained order in the kingdom (Year 26 First Age). Its borders imploding, order is eventually only restored by a republican government. (-2 Army, -1 Navy, -2 Nationhood/Loyalty).
Far south, the people of Jenetia are not strangers to war, either. Convincing more of the Ronentic city-states to pledge loyalty to Jenetia, they cut a bloody swathe through the Ronentic Peninsula (+1 Army, +1 Navy). The remaining Ronentic city-states put up a glorious fight, but are ultimately defeated. So ends Ronentia. (-1 Ronentic Faction)
In the south of Jenetia, continued expansion is backed up by the creation of a network of forts. Their constant presence either increases the confidence of the settlers and the occupied natives, or maintains peace through fear. (+1 Nationhood/Loyalty). Having missionaries bring the glory of Ja'Net to the far corners of the world, many tribes pledge themselves to Jenetia. (+1 Army, +1 Religious Strength).
With the creation of many sea-ports, and a continued road network, as well as food from the large river of eastern Africa, the people become very wealthy, and many. (+1 Economy, +1 Population).
The people of Kivoria introduce a kind of controlled feudalism, asking their people to serve yearly for their country. They are glad to do so, as Kivoria is at peace. (+1 Army, +1 Nationhood/Loyalty). Harvesting the wood of the trees of their coastline, they increase the size of their navy. (+1 Navy).
Changes in their governmental structure, with the introduction of two civil services, and one Church (the Piety, the Military, and the Money) they streamline their government, and their economy thanks to the completion of their project, and their trade networks. (+2 Economy)
Far across the seas, the people of Gvardia continue to expand, increasing their army and their economy with the constant enslavement of natives, though with great suffering to the loyalty of their populace. (+1 Army, +1 Navy, +1 Economy, -1 Nationhood/Loyalty). Seeking to cross the seas, they discover that their seafaring capabilities are not as of yet up to the task.
To the north, the people of Citia begin construction of a great place of learning, the Grand University. They create a large road-system, connecting the heartland of their empire, and reform their government. (+1 Economy, +1 Nationhood/Loyalty). They expand southward, and meet Gvardic scouts, as well as increase their military. (+1 Army, +1 Navy).
To the west, the people of Calli introduce a standard currency (+1 Economy), finish their great project, increase their army (+1 Army), and continue to expand.
In the seas, a people known as the Polish expand along their native island chain. An incident with the natives of the other islands leads to some calling them the North Africans, but the matter is quickly cleared up. Increasing their nationhood through the creation of standardized agricultural practices, and their military, they now control the entirety of their island chain, and turn their eyes to the east. (+1 Nationhood/Loyalty, +1 Army, +1 Navy)
The people of Dymaea see the beginning of the Great Canals, an irrigation network that promises to increase the bounty of their harvests, and the size of their families. (+1 Nationhood/Loyalty). Military expansion leads to some skirmishes with primitive tribes, but mostly all is quiet. Consolidation of power, despite the creation of a landholding class, leads to a larger military, and borders. (+1 Army).
The people of Angkola increase their navy and army through higher pay incentives (+1 Army, +1 Navy) and their economy through localized investment by the government (+1 Economy) though this upsets the commercial hegemony, and leads to some destabilization (-1 Nationhood/Loyalty).
The peoples of Malakhan and Amazonia stagnate, the Amazonians teetering on the edge of destruction.
