Looking for Let's Plays

GAH! Either I am doing something completely wrong or my computer/Camstudio doesn't want to cooperate with me. I guess no videos from me. No biggie though... I will continue to periodically post my picture heavy updates. ^_^

on my channel http://www.youtube.com/user/vranasm?feature=mhum I am running right now Emperor/Quick speed game with Elisabeth if anyone is interested.

Have to say that it's very tough lately for me to concentrate and the quick speed makes it even worse. Don't have clue how it will end, lol :-).

I hope for victory, but the AI's stick like glue on that speed!

I had no luck with Camstudio either - and you have to run Civ4 windowed to use it, which annoyed me even without the unwatchably jerky video I got from it.

I now use XFire to record and VirtualDub to compress it. XFire creates about 400MB of video per minute, but VirtualDub brings that down to about 12MB per minute.

On my system and internet connection, a 12-13 minute video takes about 12 minutes to compress, and about 18 minutes to upload.

Golden Pole,

Thanks for the link :D but really I've just used YouTube to convey what happened during my turnsets in some select Succession Games (more so than a 'Let's Play').

Perhaps one video that may be of passing interest (if you can cope with the Australian accent and the relentless "umms" and "errrs"! {I was really sleep deprived when I did this clip}) to Noble-Prince type players could be the '2 Pop Whip' one, which outlines how you can get close to two Axes/Spears with one whipping session by leveraging overflow to get out most of the second Axe/Spear.

As noted in the video, the '2 pop whip' and regrow tactic can be used with forest chops to accelerate the production of an invasion force.

As not noted in the clip, the calculations do not accommodate for production multipliers such as Forges or the Heroic Epic.

It was designed for woopdeedoo and FiveRings in mind as part of the Sword of Osman SG, but others might get something from it.

Codec and video settings REALLY MATTER when making videos.

I do use a headset and pretty much always have for recording. Cam studio is really hard to use without divx codec and settings.

If you are super adventurous, you can look into FFMPEG (what I currently use under linux, though it is cross-platform). FRAPS costs money but does very well with loss-less recording which creates best quality but huge files you'll probably need to compress (FFMPEG can do lossless also).

I will release a guide to how I do things on linux these days soon.

It took me a long time to understand what a lot of the video recording settings do, and even now I don't understand it all.
