Looking for people to join Monarch Trainer (I need training)

Hey guys.

The good news is that I will have access to the internet to post and download saved games and take my turns (if I read the corrected roster correctly, I'm up next).

The only bad news is that I can't be connected and play at the same time (which only means that I can't read the forum for instructions).

I've no problem with JUrimax joining the group, either.

I will download the save tonight and post sometime either tomorrow or Wednesday.

Also, please don't dare to argue about the Techs we want from the ToE: Atomic Theory and Electronics. Being the 2 most expensive Techs and ignored by the AI, this is the best choice in 99% of all cases - make that 100% if you are America and need an IND Wonder.

A lurker can sometimes learn something.
After checking the research costs I never
go for Refining as a free tech again.
Also Flight is as expensive as Electronics.

Indeed Tatran, but Electroncis brings Hoover (great to have, and in this game a must)along. Hoover = lots of free production.

Greetz Jurimax

As to why they're ignored by the AI?
There are no immediate benefits linked to Atomic Theory and apparently the AI doesn't look what's next in the tech tree. A similar event occurs in the Middle Ages with Printing Press (and several others), allthough PP allows comm trading.

I thought tmarcl was going to take it, but I can take it if you want (perhaps he's got problems with his ineternet connection again). I'll take it tonight when I get back home (around 23:30, now 16:30) if tmarcl still hasn't replied. Is that OK with the team?

Greetz Jurimax

I did get it, Juri. I wasn't able to play, though before today. (I still haven't). I will play today (no work, Federal Holiday and all), and post tomorrow). I appreciate everyone's patience with this.

Guys, I'm sorry (especially after promising to post today), but I'm going to have to completely bow out of this game. There is a lot less time available to me here than I thought there would be, and the internet connection here is nearly as wonky as it is out to sea. I feel real bad about this, since I'm the one who started the thread, and I do apologize.

I will, when I can, continue reading the thread (and the other training ones), to keep learning. Hopefully, when I get to my next command, I'll have more free time available.

As an aside, and, I hope, somewhat funny note, I will leave you with this tiny story:

Today, we wrote down our 'Dream Sheet' (basically, a list of places where we'd love to be posted if we got to choose our assignments). The Dream Sheet is divided into three categories: Sea, Shore, and Overseas. For each category, you get to choose three places.

When I got to Overseas, I swear, for almost two whole minutes, I was comparing overseas assignments like this: "Well, Japan is Military/Religious, but England gets that extra scout at the beginning."

At that point, I knew I was a definite Civfanatic.

but England gets that extra scout at the beginning."

At that point, I knew I was a definite Civfanatic.

 But still, not a hopeless case - England gets no Scout in C3C...

tmarcl, no problem. Since I think this game will last some more time, maybe you can find the time to slot in occasionally; if not, enjoy the read.

Doc

Over to Jurimax.

Learning lurker post.

As someone who is making the Regent to Monarch jump, this has been a good read.
Will have to get around to joining one of these games one day, but I am sadly away from my C3C for another month.

Question: you all seem a bit vague about victory conditions. I've noticed that when it comes up for discussion it never really gets answered. Or is it domination all the way unless something better happens?

:crazyeye:

Ok, the only thing that's completely screwed up in this game is the roster....
I would have seen no problem in tmarcl/Juri swapping this round, but with tmarcl out, I want a fixed roster again (and there's absolutely np with tmarcl maybe jumping in occasionally).

I want two things:
Jurimax goes directly before me, and bigfoot not directly after me. Anything else is open.
So, since geonnyboy did play this round already, it's up to Michelangelo or bigfoot who grabs the game next.

Roster:
geonnyboy - just played
bigfoot or Michelangelo - up!

tmarcl when possible

The current save can be found in post #295.

On victory conditions: IMHO there was nothing to decide so far; we want a Hoover GA, an insane production base, and then go on the rampage. If that ends with Conquest, Domination, UN (if we'd win anyway, and want to save time) or Space, is not something that would have affected the game much so far. Heck, we could even try to hit several VCs at once...

:hmm:

I learn me some more.

Another question if I may.
Are the none core cities beign set up for food tiles, so you can hire mega taxmen and can they also be set up for lots of scientists just as effectively?

Status check at 1295 AD

I had to read the discussion between, about the prebuilds DocT and Geonny a couple of times to get it right (I think). And I have my own conclusions. (OK blame me if I’m wrong ;)
Washington is able to build army in 3 or ToE in 7
NY still needs 370 shields to build hoover. At the current 40 shields this takes 10 turns.
By MM NY it can make 42 shields and finish Hoover in 9 (Cost some food though in the box, but not as much to loose a pop in the 9 turns remaining). This makes it almost perfect to get ToE in Washington, get the free techs and building Hoover in 9 turns

If I first finish the army, it will take 3 turns, and that’s too long to wait for NY.

Looking around further, increasing research by to 70% gives us RP in 4 instead of 5 and still making +199 gpt

Hmm still seeing all those nasty swamps. Have to clean them up when time comes, but I restrain myself now in order to build the railroads. ;)

First unload the settler on the southern island so the great empire of America can start building iglo’s next turn. Also order the galley in Detroit to pick up two musketmen to be transported to the northern island.

Upgrade to two last horsemen to cavalry for 300 gold.

OK, this took about half an hour, but I’m ready to push the shiny button

End of Turn –1, 1771 gold, +199 gpt, Replaceable Parts in 4

IBT
Maya offer 23 gpt for salpeter, hmm, this looks promising, after bargaining I get all their gold (270gold) and 26gpt and their world map for salpeter. Looks like they are now more fair to us, bc of our recent trading. And they really need it to fight the wars of their continent.

Turn 0, 1300 AD
Start focussing workers to upgrade core cities first, to maximize commercial output, most cities are all ready connected anyway. I like the perfect worker stack already available :goodjob: , that can RR a square in 1 turn.
We settle Richmond on tundra island and set it to build a temple, will rush it next turn.

End of Turn 0, 2252 gold, +209 gpt, Replaceable Parts in 3

IBT
Boston builds Cathedral -> Musketman (MM to get zero growth and have a taxman at same Musketman buildspeed and get the city in WLTK)
Miamy builds factory -> Coal Plant (8)
San Diego (on northern island) goes into civil disorder, it probably grew last turn, missed it though. Switch new citizen to taxman.
Our coal near Texcoco was exhausted. Luckily we had two of them. I don’t think we were selling any.

Turn 1, 1305 AD
Workers work

End of Turn 1, 2461gold, +213 gpt, Replaceable Parts in 2

IBT
Tlacopan builds worker -> worker – Malinalco builds factory -> Cathedral

Turn 2, 1310 AD
I don’t think we should build any coal plants as we will have Hydroplants everywhere in 6 turns. And IIRC those replace the coal plants.
The Maya have a lot of gold, which they will trade for gems. So the deal is gems for 410 g + 2 gpt + WM

End of Turn 2, 3084 gold, +132 gpt, Replaceable Parts in 1

Zulu offer WM trade – refuse
Replaceable parts -> Sanitation (4)
Philly builds cathedral -> Coal Plant (prebuild Hospital)
Tlaxcala builds Marketplace -> Aquaduct – LA builds Aquaduct -> Library

Turn 3, 1315 AD
We have 2 rubber sources, 1 connected
Upgrade 8 knights to Cavalry for 240g – Upgrade 24 musketmen to Infantry for 1040g and 4 MDI to Guerilla’s

End of Turn 3, 216 gold, +134 gpt, Sanitation in 4

IBT Boston builds musketman -> Coal Plant(Hospital) Chicago builds Factory -> Coal plant (Hospital)

Turn 4, 1320 AD
Workers stuff
Switch to Atomic theory for free techs, set research to 0
End of Turn 4, 260 gold, +670 gpt, Atomic Theory 50 (Yeah right)

IBT
Iro build 2nd city on island and see another settler pair moving near
We build the long anticipated Theory of Evolution, and get as a gift Atomic Theory and Electronics. Set research back to Sanitation, huh, research done = gone. I thought it would remember. Could have saved up some serious cash then.
Wash builds ToE-> Army (Hospital) – Tenoch builds library -> Bank (not sure what to build) – Seattle builds Cathedral -> Coal plant (Hospital), We lost our spices

Turn 5, 1325 AD

Let’s see if my calculations where right, change NY to Hoover in 3!! Geonnyboy Philly to slow prebuild for one turn ;) to let the coal plant really be a prebuild.
Deal with Dutch: Spices and 5g + WM for Furs,Gems and Ivory

End of Turn 5, 1023 gold, +99 gpt, Sanitation in 4

IBT:
Texcoco builds worker -> Worker, Gandasetaigon builds Library -> University: Pollution near Houston

Turn 6, 1330 AD
Hurry temple in Richmond

End of Turn 6, 906 gold, +100 gpt, Sanitation in 3

IBT
Teotihuacan builds University -> Factory, Malinalco builds Cathedral -> Coal Plant(Hostpital) – Caughnawaga builds worker-> worker – Cincinatty builds bank -> Factory – Memphis builds Marketplace -> Library – Richmond builds temple -> harbor

Turn 7, 1335 AD
Worker stuff and reduce science to 50%
Found Las Vegas on Northern Island

End of Turn 7, 1006 gold, +279 gpt, Sanitation in 2

IBT
NY builds Hoover dam – [party] We are now in our Golden Age [party] NY starts bank. Philly builds Coal plant L set to palace(hospital). Must have had production boost from Hydro plant, should I sell them? – Same for Miami -> Cathedral(hospital) – St. Regis builds Courthouse -> Harbor

Turn 8, 1340 AD
Reduce tech to 40%
End of Turn 8, 1285 gold, +619 gpt, Sanitation in 1

IBT
Sanitation -> The Corporation (4) I don’t think it’s allowed to enter the city during this, in order to change Seattle coal plant to Hospital. So Seattle builds Coal Plant -> Hospital – Houston builds University -> Hospital, Tzintzuntzen builds worker -> worker, Tyendenage builds worker -> Settler

Turn 9, 1345 AD
Change the prebuilds to Hospital. Let Wash finish army, to big a waste otherwise.
The AI will probably research Steam power around rather sooner than later. After looking around, we can get a lot from it, and they won’t be able to research Industrialization before we build Universal Suffrage. So here it goes

Sell Steam Power to Inca for Nationalism, 35gpt,7g,WM
Sell Steam Power to Maya for 460g + 34 gpt +WM
The dutch have nothing to offer, their loss, and the rest isn’t advanced enough to comprehend something like that.

End of Turn 9, 2357 gold, +531 gpt, The corporation in 4

IBT
Pollution near Washingto, Boston builds Hospital-> Palace(Stock Exchange) – Atlanta builds Universal Suffrage -> Hospital – Chicago builds Hospital -> Cathedral – SF builds Factory -> Hospital – Tlacopan builds worker -> worker – Malinalco builds Hospital -> Coal plant(Battlefield Medicine) – Baltimore builds Marketplace -> Aquaduct

Turn 10, 1350 AD
Worker actions

Recap:
We researched 4 techs – Completed three wonders – Entered our golden age – Made enormous amounts of money – Railed most of our country and build 2 more cities

Note for the next player, please look out for palace prebuild in Maninalco . Next turn our 5th hospital will be build which enables us to build Battelfield medicine in Maminalco.

After building the stock exchanges in the core there is nothing to build anymore for a while. So I think the time has come to focus again on the military and take our continent. The next player could already start the war in the middle of his turnset and make great progress. What do you all think of this. Of course it would not help our golden age, but there’s just nothing to build anymore except military

Well played Michelangelo.
Is it my turn now?
(in that case: Got it)

But no matter what I'll wait to play my turns until I get some more pointers as to what our goals are in the near future.

Sanitation -> The Corporation (4) I don’t think it’s allowed to enter the city during this, in order to change Seattle coal plant to Hospital.
Scrolling ahead is fine for SGs.

Please manually sell our Coal Plants, they only cost upkeep and produce pollution.

Agree there's nothing left to build after the SEs, so pump out units.

bigfoot is up.
