I dont think we get a fantasy civ with elves and dragons, I might be wrong but does fantasy strategy even sell that well?
Top strategy games on Steam seem to be Civilization, Paradox and Total war games with history. Ok Warhammer is a popular game but its setting is decades old.
If they were to be a good , serious , heroes of might and magic , I'd buy that in a heartbeat. I've been missing one since Ubi gave up on the franchise. I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only one, and we are talking of a generation of PC gamers with money .

Agreeing, but I guess we have to anticipate instead what the modding community did/does with part III-V (some examples: III: HoTA, IV: Heroes IV Ultimate, V: Quantomas new AI ). Heroes VI and VII have already left the path of the series for me - and I would prefer to let the series die off instead of seeing a part VIII totally losing it. Only exception: A new publisher (Slitherine comes to my mind) taking over and getting back to the roots.
That's my guess. Or the way game announcements and development goes these days, they'll drop a very vague teaser later this year, go silent for three years, and it comes out 2026.
From my experience, "several" can be a way to disguise "two", as some may be adamant about hiding the number, too. Alternative ways would be also "More new projects" etc.
I expect either Fantasy Spin-off, Beyond Earth 2 or something brand new as one project (BE2 less likely as it wouldn't really be new IP, though maybe third spiritual successor of SMAC and BE could be defined as such) and Civ 7 as another, both merely announced, one with more info closer to release (the spin-off), one with less info further from release (Civ 7).
I sure hope they do a spin-off instead of Civ 7. They need to give the series time to breathe before an eventual sequel. Can you imagine going back to just 20 Civs in a base game that releases next year?
Personally I’d love to see a fantasy spinoff.
And man, they’ve got a tough hill to climb with Civ 7. I am a huge fan of 6 and I think they should really change it up. Otherwise what’s the point?

One of the big reasons that I won't be buying Civ 7 at launch. I'll wait until a few XPs are out and I can have a semi full roster. That, and see the reviews etc so my expectations don't run away with themselves.
TBH Civ6 is filled to the brim with great ideas that are really poorly executed. A Civ7 base game that better integrates Civ6's ideas would be very satisfying IMO.

I find myself wanting to play Civ 5 more than Civ 6 even with my own mods. I agree, good ideas, but executions don't meet expectactions. The systems are great (primarily the Loyalty and Governor system), but the victories feel so bland to me and I think I'm likely to go back to Civ 5 than stick with Civ 6.
At this point I am just waiting for an XCOM3 announcement. Civ VI still needs more maintenance for bug fixes (and I am not a fan of fantasy civ), and Civ VII seems too early as well.
On a side note: I saw a new hex-inspired game called Before We Leave. While it is not turn-based, it uses hex tiles on a spherical world. I wonder if that is a possibility for a future civ game?
Not interested in a fantasy version and much less a sci-fi spin-off. Let's have these blatant bugs crushed and a more challenging AI, before repeating the same mistakes in civ7.
I for myself don't think the NFP continuous release cycle was a good idea, or at least resources they put in were too meager to stand the pace, I would have much preferred an XP thoroughly tested, balanced and stripped of those gimmicky vampires and zombies.
Sorry, but that's only even plausible if we have further content for Civ VI, realistically speaking. Improving the AI in any substantial way is a difficult and time consuming process, which means expensive. They'll only do it with a profit motive, which means doing it as part of an SP or XP. Hopefully, we should get bug fixes regardless, but AI improvements beyond specific case adjustments will only be plausible (and even then, not guaranteed) with paid content.

The only way I’ll get Civ7 at launch is if 1UPT is gone, or the movement rates at least double. Barring that I am gonna need to see a TON of “The AI can actually wage war and build improvements” feedback first.

Well, some of the AI improvements are actually bug fixes and these should not require additional paid content:
- No luxuries improvements in M&C
- Zero contribution to aid emergencies
- Trébuchet sitting idle in my city range so I can shoot it during three turns, before it decides to bombard me but too late now
- Inability to use heroes
- Spamming of fanatics to no avail
I expect some final bug fixes before moving on to the next game, it should be part of standard maintenance, with decent play testing and QA

Ah OK fair enough, I interpreted improvements to AI to mean actually improving the AI as opposed to fixes for specific bugs. I agree it should be done and I think there is a fair chance that it will, albeit it will be months yet. I interpret the devs saying that they're taking a break for a few months to mean that they're basically going to be doing nothing for Civ 6 for a while, but will be doing patches later. I'm somewhat sceptical that they'll fix the cultist and heroes issues, though.
Unfortunately so. There's a chance they'll fix SS, but that they haven't already suggests that either it's not an easy fix and so won't get done, or really isn't a priority for them. Either way...
