I can't find my Civ III Mac CD, turned the whole house upside down without any luck. Is there a workaround or do I have to buy the game from Fraxis again at full price???

Regards,
James Rasmussen

What version are you playing? If....

1.21g? See the email I sent ya. (advice only)

1.29beta2? A cd isn't needed. The patch acts as a crack, where a cd isn't needed to run the application.

Read my post on page 2 of the Macintosh Tech Support/Game FAQ thread.

Thanks to all, I downloaded the suggested patch and everyting is back in order. If I burn my CIV III files to CD, Incl. this patch, will I be able to reload the software in future if I need it - thinking about back up copies here.

Regards,
JR

What did MacSoft say when you contacted them? Usually game companies will work with you when this happens.

Lost CDs are probably the hardest thing to support, especially if the CD does not have a CD key you have to type into the game. You have to prove you bought the original, and even still who's to say you aren't trying to scam the company out of a free CD for your friend? (I'm not saying you are, but this is how software companies have to think)

Sufficit to say if you still want a new CD, call MacSoft and ask about your options. Broken CDs are easy because you can send the broken CD back as proof, but lost CDs might be a snag. Still, What Brad says is true. If you need a replacement, always call the company and ask for options. Many do work with you to make sure you are back up and running.

And damn those who want to squash "free speech" and all that for the sake of protecting knowledge. We aren't pirates here, so until there is proof that I or JERasmussen are pirates, we shouldn't be treated that way.

While I don't know how MacSoft deals with this, I do have some background on how Aspyr handles it. We have a storeroom full of spindles of CDs that we send out as replacements for occasions like this. I believe we also usually charge a small replacement fee, like $5 or something. This isn't something I'm actively involved with though, so I can't speak definitively on the matter.

Free Speech? Someone is paying for this board to be hosted. It isn't free.

Hellfire, this is out of nowhere. Who has accused you and JERasmussen of piracy?
