My highest scores are between 50-100K, and I know it's because I play conservatively, even passively, which I'm trying to change. For my own satisfaction, I am trying for every victory condition on Prince before moving up, and that seems to be a challenge that will keep me going a good long time.
After getting a win, my first thought is whether or not I'm going to get the "Augustus" rating. Most of my wins do have that rating.
In my last loss, I was trying for a conquest with Tokugawa: while I was out conquering the world, my ally Pericles (whom I intended to backstab once I finished off the rest), up and got himself a cultural win. Nothing sobers you up like a Dan Quayle rating, and I learned to keep an eye on the Victory Condition screen.
