Vista defrags automagically (no typo)...I have never trusted windows defragging software. I mainly have been using JKDefrag because it is uber nice.

I'm not going to lie, some of the features that mac notebooks have I want, like when the laptop hasn't had any cursor movement or typing the screen dims and saves battery life and the back lighting of the screen is LED not the mercury lit background.

I personally don't like bashing Mac OSX but Mac OS 9...ya sure bring it on  and pretty much anything windows I will make fun of just because I use it and I don't like some "features" that come with it *ahem* DRM *ahem*

- When new hardware is released (e.g. Bluray drives, new CPUs) it is almost always for the PC first. Then the Mac might get it later. Basically, Macs are always behind in the latest technology.
I thought that the first Quadcore 3Ghz Intels where build inside the OctaMac.

LED backlit displays are not unique to Apple...and autoscreen dimming has been a standard feature on laptops for...I don't know, 10+ years?

I voted for the 3rd option since I don't know, I've never used a mac.

All of you should've voted that. I did, fairly, because I have never used a real pc REALLY. I've used Windows XP, but I never owned a pc. I've used them in school, but I still don't count that as using them. I don't think it's fair all this mac bashing, because I KNOW none of you have never REALLY used a mac. That's what I've got to say...I'm dissapointed in you guys... :nono: I was fair with you, and you stabbed me in the back...:(

Why do you assume I've never used a Mac?

At a prior job at IBM one of my main tasks was to support IBM's XL C/C++/Fortran compilers for MacOS X. I extensively used the platform, I was liaising with Apple developer support, and I assisted in optimizing components of OS X back when it was a PPC-only OS. I'm quite familiar with the platform, thank you very much.

It wasn't directed at you, it was a statement in general to stop the fighting and mac bashing. Thank you very much.

from Windows XP installation guide said:
Windows XP has a fresh new look which will make it much easier to navigate through your files.
This isn't argumentative, it was just funny to me. Back then it was, but by now you'd think they'd update it, right? It should say:
If you want a fresh new look as well as windows, get vista or screw em' both and get a mac!
Just adding some spice to the convo... Have fun with it, I'm leaving.

It doesn't matter. It exists, and it's Apple's own software doing it. This is the point.
I'm not here to defend Apple. Yes, iTunes does some objectionable things. You don't have to use it on a Mac, just as you don't have to use it on Windows. If you don't like what iTunes does, don't use it, it's that simple.

ZoneAlarm is free and integrates with Windows. Is there an equivalent for OS X?
The last time I used ZoneAlarm on a Windows PC, it caused the computer to blue-screen on startup. I have not tried it since.

Heh... by Asher's reaction, you'd think I had murdered his mother... people get way too emotional about computers.

This is not the point...the point was MacOS X didn't have such software. It does. MacOS X is not invincible.

This is emotional? I'm merely systematically tearing down terribly constructed arguments while I kill time at work.

Just curious how OS X is a fresh new interface when it's been around longer than XP's?

Asher try not to double post.

The question I have right now I guess can be considered thread jacking but so you think integrating DRM software into an operating system is a good thing or bad thing?

IMO I hate DRM because it adds more hoops for me to have to jump through

Let me say, that although I have tried Macs before, I have never really used one. So I guess I cannot list all the faults they actually have ;) - no, I am joking. Windows XP does have its faults, and so does Vista. Nothing, including OS X is perfect.

I would like to say though, that in defence for Macs (to make up for my earlier mini bashing) that Macs are very stable. It is Unix based, and much more better at isolating problems. And....Boot Camp is much more advanced and quicker than Virtual PC.

Umm...last time I checked the most recent version of Mac OS X is way younger than Windows. And you have to admit it looks MUCH better. I'd say it's safe to say that Vista was a knock off of OS X. Oh, and also thanks Jamesds. :goodjob:

And....Boot Camp is much more advanced and quicker than Virtual PC.
Uh. What? This makes no sense.

Boot Camp is a simple boot loader. Virtual PC is a very complex virtualization environment. They are in no way comparable.

The interface has not significantly changed in OS X revisions. And I don't think Vista is a ripoff of OS X. They both rely on transparency, but that's an obvious direction to head into...particularly for an OS built upon a "Window" metaphor...

Asher, I shouldn't have mentioned Boot Camp. All I meant was that Macs have a much more advanced virtualisation. Boot Camp, as you correctly said, is different.

BTW, may I ask why you seem to have such a hatred of Macs? ;) I wouldn't want one myself, but I respect them - they are in a way our "brother computers" after all. Please don't take offence to that, anyone :).

Let me throw in one thing about Macs. They have such confusing version numbers. You go to buy some software, and it will have "Requires Mac OS X v10.4.7 or later" or "Mac OS X v10.3.9 or v10.4.4 or later; v 10.4.3 recommended" ... with Windows, all it says is simply "Microsoft Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, XP, Vista", or something similar.

As someone said above, I too hate DRM. It just limits my freedom with music, which I use legally anyway. However, that isn't going to change soon, so I'm not going to wait. Online music is cheaper anyway (generally). I use Napster, anyone else?

Lets keep the discussion lively, PC users out number Mac users about 4.5:1 currently, so lets not be too harsh on the Mac users :).

I own a Powerbook most because I like OS X and I got the machine at a great discount. It also has an added personal benefit for me. I no longer waste time gaming since there are few popular titles available to run on the PowerPC platform.
