MadDjinn Kavithan Protectorate Let's Play

Unsure whether its a bug per se, but the alien skeleton->raptor bug was unable to embark at all: which is slightly problematic on an atlantean map.

His one gets stuck on a 3-tile island >_<

I don't see that as a bug at all, rather it seems quite credible because few animals that are not native aquatic species can undertake epic sea voyages. Sure, Terran polar bears and elephants can swim for some distance, but across oceanic distances?

It may be bad luck or a fluke for the player that the critter was spawned on a 3-hex island, but oh well...stuff happens.

I guess it provides a talking point with your opponents in multiplayer, if nothing else :)

Tanks and soldiers don't undertake epic sea voyages either. However, they can be loaded onto transports, as can lions, tigers, bears, elephants, giraffes, etc.

If player controlled Alien units can embark, one would expect the wild ones would be able to do so as well...do you really want that? And who is operating the Alien transport ships for the wild Aliens? Little Green Boatmen? :crazyeye:

Do barbarians ever embark in civ v? I cant recall ever seeing it happen.

Barbarians, I've never seen embark. However, Rebels embark all the time. In fact, when my happiness is so low that I'm getting rebels, when they embark is about the only time I can actually kill them!

They at least did at one point, but I haven't seen it since BNW or earlier I think.

I've seen it also, but not recently. I recall being very amused about a barbarian on a small island right off my coast until he jumped in the water and took my worker.

What are the seeding options on this one?

I know he took Aristocrats, which is helping with both health and income. He's not as health negative as usual and he's making a decent amount of cash.

Did Firaxis change the Purity 1 bonus? I know he was slow and picking up affinity points but I was curious if part of that was because he couldn't use a single level in Purity to cheese aliens. Not that he needed to when the aliens became his bestest friends.

Wild Aliens can't embark because they don't have the Planetary Survey tech. Just like soldiers can't embark unless the player has the planetary survey tech. (But they Can embark if the player does have the tech.)

Point taken, but I still don't care to see BE's Aliens boating around the planet, and here I'm speaking as an SP player who just doesn't want that in his SP games.

I just finished watching the YouTube vid of part 2... I really think they ought to modify things so that when you choose one of your units and click on a nearby blue alien, it ought to ask you if you want to attack or ask it to move out of the way (which it would then do, if you so choose). The one nice thing of the constantly-moving-for-no-reason city state units in Civ V was that at least they would get out of the way if you waited enough.

I think that's the trade-off of having friendly aliens. It removes much of the danger of exploration and expansion, but brings its own logistical problems. You can kill some aliens without them turning on you, so if you need to get to a blocked tile, you can get there by force.

Just have embarkation tied to a promotion, which is tied to a tech, same as in Civ 5. Grant the alien unit the "embarkation" promotion when they come under the control of a Civilisation. That way wild aliens don't embark, but human-controlled ones can.

They don't have to be alien transport ships, they can just be human barges like usual. If the devs want to spend time making a special "zoo ship" graphic for embarked aliens they can do, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me if the graphic was just the standard transport.

Human-constructed aliens like the Xeno Titan and Xeno Swarm can embark, it's silly that alien units you find in pods can't.

Are you sure the Xeno Titan can embark? That would look pretty silly. Hopefully they've got some special animation for that instead of the standard little transport.

Both the Xeno Swarm and Xeno Cavalry units include humans.

Tamed alien units are just animals that decided to join you. That doesn't mean they learned how to call for and board transports.

I've seen barbarians embark in the most recent version of the game, but there are only very specific circumstances where their pathing will prompt them to do it.

Nope, but I'd be very surprised if they decided to make Harmony's super-unit worthless in certain situations and on certain map types - that'd be a bit of a poor design choice.

The tame alien units take your orders, even if it means certain death. You should be able to tell them to get on a boat.

Do you honestly think it's a good design choice that in this game you can find an alien unit in a resource pod, then it's trapped on the island you found it on forever? I find that difficult to believe.
