MadV4- Sumerian OCC 20K

im sorry i cant play till next thursday im spending 8 days at my dads house and he has no civ
auto-skip me till then

Pre-Turn: Everything looks good.
IT: Hittites demand Philosophy and I cave. Japan is building the Pyramids.
Ur builds Mausoleum>Pyramids

975 BC: Descend into anarchy, we draw 4. Unfortunately to keep Ur from revolting we’ll need to shrink 1 fpt. I wonder if it would be wiser to just riot?
Germany: We get 36 gold; we give Alphabet

900 BC
IT: We become a Monarchy. France knows Mathematics.

875 BC: Set slider at 1/8/1 for Lit in 12 turns and a deficit of 5 gpt.

850 BC
IT: Egypt is building ToA

825 BC: France: We get 50 gold; we give Writing
Germany: We get 37 gold; we give Writing
IT: Egypt demands Alphabet. I give it

750 BC: Sorry, just couldn’t pass this up. Plus AI money is starting to disappear so I try and grab what’s left.
Germany: We get two German workers and 4 gold; we give Philosophy
Arabia: We get 35 gold; we give Philosophy

730 BC
IT: Arabia demands Monarchy. We give it.

690 BC: Do a little barb hunting and get 25 gold.
IT: Arabia is building ToA. Ur maxes out at pop 12.

670 BC: Do a little citizen shuffling to get 21 spt while keeping +1 food. Once one more mined hill is finished that will be changed.

650 BC: Whoops, almost missed this. Set slider at 6/3/1
France: We get 92 gold; we give Polytheism
IT: Literature>Code of Laws. We get a SGL!

630 BC: Ur switches to Hanging Gardens, done in 6 turns.
IT: Arabia is building the Pyramids

610 BC: France: We get Mathematics, Map Making, a slave, and 25 gold; we give Monarchy
IT: Japan demands Map Making. We give it.

Notes:
-I switched Ur to Hanging Gardens as it seems to be the next best great wonder to build. At least its benefits will help Ur. Once it is completed use the SGL to rush the Great Library.
-I began researching Code of Laws as at that time the only techs we could research (other than CoL) were ones that the other AI’s knew. Didn’t see a reason why since the GL would grab those.
-Sorry about all the trades for slaves but in my opinion slaves are extremely valuable in an OCC game. Once we get either Shake’s or a hospital we can merge our native workers and use the slaves for improvement’s/changes. My apologies if other’s disagree.
-We might want to set research at 0% for now so that after the GL is rushed we can rush a library. That way we don’t waste turns hand-building improvements.

Here's the save.

After we rush the GL I'd suggest we first rush a library. The additional 3 cpt and the increase in science is definitely worth holding back on the Pyramids a turn (or any other wonder for that matter).

I'm not for sure if we'll get the Pyramids as there are already several AI's building them. We might as well try.

Thats why we can always switch production to ToA. I forgot about that library  so that is better.

Note on worker actions, for future reference: build mine/irrigation first, then road before moving to the next tile.

Our archers need to stay much closer to our city. They are barbarian defense, not explorers.

Hanging Gardens will trigger our Golden Age. Our city will be over 30 spt then, and a library is 40 shields for us. After rushing GL, rush a worker for 80 gold, then switch to the library to complete in 1 turn. This short-rush tactic will save you much gold.

Almost forgot, we need to irrigate two grasslands in order to work all 5 hills. Be sure to irrigate the bonus grasslands, so that we still get the GA bonus shield.

Just about anything we can get during the ancient times is worth it. I think all your trades were good. I assume we're heading for Republic now? I think it would be best to switch as soon as our GA is over. Republic will increase our base commerce, and allow us to research faster, getting to the key middle-age wonders sooner.

I was wondering why we went the way of Monarchy first. I assumed it was just to switch governments quicker but am uncertain. I went CoL only because I didn't want to research a tech an AI already knew. I had no major plan truthfully. I was expecting to get the other Math and MM through the GL rather than through trades.

I agree with going Republic as it is the best tech for an OCC game, IMO.

Monarchy to get out of despotism sooner, and because of HG to trigger GA.

510BC- build the hanging gardens, we're in a GA!
decide to hurry ToA (15 turns) and handbuild GLB (12 turns)
later...

:dubious:

490BC- build Temple of Atemis -> Great Library

450BC- Code of Laws -> Currency

IBT: Bismarck wants Math, decline, war...

430BC- meet Xerxes, down Monarchy and Litature

410BC IBT: Persepolis makes Pyramids

310BC- trade litature (GLB in 3 turns) + 119 gold to Persians for Construction

250BC- make GLB

230BC- enter MAs, peace with Germans + CoL for Peace + 10 gold, kill barb, get Engineering as free tech

210BC- library -> Great Wall

to 150BC- nothing, Great Wall due in 6

No Republic? We should have researched it so we could switch to the better government as soon as GA is over. Anyway, I got it.

I'm surprised you waited so long to build the normal library. Recall Mathias had a great way to short-rush it so it could be built in a single turn.

I also thought we were heading towards Republic and in truth it is a much better government for what we want.

In my experience I never decline a demand as it always means war. I give in no matter what they want. Hopefully our opponents are a long ways off. Edit: Just noticed that MV has already made peace. My bad.

We're doing pretty good on culture though with a 2015 win date. Edit: Interesting that CAII gives a 2031 win date and AlanH's calculator gives a 2015 win date.

150 BC - Science up to 100%, maximizing our economy
IT: Palace expand: second story, left wing, right wing, spires
Arabia completes SoZ
Reported massive barbarian uprising

130 BC - France, Arabia have entered Middle Ages
Archer steps north and finds barb camp (9 horsemen, 2 warriors)
IT: Archer kills a warrior and 4 horsemen before falling
Barbarian warrior at southwest border

110 BC - the jungle is cleared, road that tile and move workers to irrigate so we can reach max production of 25 spt

30 BC - disperse a camp for 25 gold

10 BC - IT: Great Wall is complete

30 AD - our warrior is halfway home before I realize that we don't need him for anything; disband the warrior

50 AD - Gems connected

90 AD - Arabian borders expand and we lose the gems
Persia has Republic

110 AD - IT: Monotheism >> Theology
switch production from colosseum to cathedral via 'big picture'

130 AD - Persia has entered Middle Ages and got Engineering
Engineering + 73 gold buys Republic from Arabia
IT: Arabia demands Monotheism... hmph!
Cathedral >> Colosseum

170 AD - Germany entered Middle Ages, got Feudalism and traded it to France for Engineering (France apparantly bought Eng from Arabia)
Republic + Monotheism buys Feudalism from France
Feudalism sold to Arabia for 206 gold

230 AD - disperse camp for 25 gold

250 AD - Colosseum complete, so we revolt. I leave you with 4 turns of anarchy.

We may want to build another archer or two before begining sistine chapel. If we do, then we can disband one of our warriors to reduce unit costs.
