Magic:the gathering

reprint Counterspell and we'll talk about me coming back, WotC

If only... Counters are being made worse and worse. Last year was pretty good, because you could play Delver Tempo with some so-so counters like Mana Leak.

Do you play Legacy?

Mana Leak is a very very powerful counter. UX decks play it over Counterspell for color reasons, but basically functions the same in a fast meta..

I don't know why I wrote that. It is very powerful.

Well in monoU it's obviously subpar. :p But with any sort of splash, I use Mana Leak over Counterspell.

It's funny how much my card evaluation has changed. These days I consider Manaleak to be an awful waste of a card and even Counterspell is meh - after all, what's one extra mana for a Dissipate :p

I don't play anything right now, I haven't played Magic in years. A large part of that is because they've spent so much time over the last decade neutering every kind of deck that I enjoyed. I think the last time I played it with any seriousness was the original Ravnica block. But when I did play, I played Standard or Limited.

You could play legacy...

I think the problem is, you fall in love with a card or a mechanic, and of course eventually it will cycle out. Unless you are involved enough to drop that deck, and start all over again, it is easy to fall out of love of MtG.

That's why you play in a non-rotating format like Legacy or Modern. Modern is much cheaper, but it is riskier because cards get banned more often in Modern than in Legacy.

It's not like I was married to Blue when I played, although it was my favorite. But the game in general has simply moved away from what I used to like, the direction they decided to go in eventually caused me to just give it up.

Yeah, for that same reason I'm trying to move to Modern, which I can't really afford.

Any MTG players still here?

Whoa man, talk about an old thread.
I play standard and modern, Last format it wlas jund, so far this time around its a R/B midrange with grey merchant, Desecration demon, etc. For modern I have a mostly completed GW hatebears deck, except for voices, I am in no way trading for those at 40. Quasli pridemage is almost as good anyway.

FOr standard I play Esper, in Modern I am trying to make budget U-Tron or Scapeshift. I'm trying to brew a viable budget Legacy combo deck.

I play a fair amount of Magic, although it generally is casual. My last standard deck was black/white humans based around Immortal Servitude, although because Champion of the Parish rotated out, I'm currently using a Red/white/blue(not sure whether I want it in or not) enchantment build based around Assemble the Legion/Porphuros/Sphere of Safety.
Never managed to get into modern, perhaps it is because my friends who got into it think seem to think nothing of shelling out $100 for it, and I just don't have that money.

I haven't purchased any M:tG for more than 10 years but I still have my cards... somewhere. Not too long ago me and some friends took some of our old cards and did a draft day. First we had single copies of powerful rares revealed which we then snake drafted, afterwards we had packs that we passed around.

I drafted Thran Golem in a late round of the rare drafting and he was my MVP but my buddy ended up winning with his black deck. I had the blue Licid too but in multiplayer games he was too dangerous to play because everyone would kill me lol.

Still waiting for the price of my old cards to rise enough that I can sell them off and retire. : P

Power 9 cards are crazy expensive. Legacy and Vintage staples that are on the reserve list are also very expensive.

Yeah, I still play Magic, and I have exactly the same attitude as I did last time I posted: EDH 4 Life

Got my Glissa deck up and running and manage to pull off pretty much the perfect start a few games back:

T1: Swamp, Gravecrawler
T2: Land, Golgari Signet
T3: Land, Braids
T4: Sac Gravecrawler to Braids, Glissa, recast Gravecrawler from GY
Rest of table decides they hate my deck

I am trying to build mono-blue Kaho, Minamo Historian EDH deck with an emphasis on instants. Do you have any advice?

Well, I've never tried build a monu-u EDH deck like that, but it strikes me that the biggest issue is going to be wincons. Finding a good amount of counters, bounce and card draw to keep your opponents biggest threats in check (don't try to stop everything they do, just those likely to threaten you) is easy enough, but actually seeing out the game might be less obvious. Maybe an infinite mana combo (there are plenty of artifact based ones) into Blue Suns Zenith or similar? Dropping in Talrand is also a good idea (in fact, he's be a much better general for that kind of deck). Putting in an artifact package for utility is also worth considering given Blue's good tutors for them.
