Mahatma Gandhi is so two-sided

Man. Who should I just eradicate first? In my current game, as the Japanese (No surprise there. I love their samurai), I met with the Chinese and the Indians. They are confirmed to be on my continent, the Germans might be too (probably are, since I met with one of their warriors), but I haven't seen any of their cities.

Anyway, just to get a reaction from the Mahatma, I demanded 50 gold. He refused, not surprisingly, and with a statement that I should not bully other nations.

So, then, attending to my business of establishing cities (Still early game), after a few turns, the Mahatma pays me a visit. He demands, yes, demands polytheism. But instead of saying "Give it to me or else" he tries to say due to our peace treatywith each other I need to pay my dues, despite I did that by giving him gold, and later a technology in excahnge for some technology of my own.

You know, it's funny. Gandhi claims I'm bullying him by demaniding something, then he turns around and does the same thing.

Now, being someone with a back bone (Or, at least, not one to pass up a chance to turn his own's words against him), I refuse. And he warns me that I may be making a foolish mistake. Hmm... Two-sided Gandhi? You be the judge.

But, it leads me to another thing. The Germans, in my experience, have a history of holding me for extortion. I am annoyed at Gandhi at the moment, and they are near an two iron resources, although I may be able to get to them first by building cities up to it. But my dilemma is do I start an early war with the Mahatma to keep him from the iron so I can build samurai and take out the Germans or take out the Germans before they come a threat and worry about getting petty revenge later?

Kinda hard to decide. I'm thinking wipe India off the face of the earth, or try to (Stupid early game re-spawn rule. At least last time that happened they got wedged in between China and England and as such remained a pitifully small nation for like forever... Um...). Besides, it might help secure an iron resource, which is always good. Then I can breathe down Germany with samurai hordes! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Err...

My continent! Although I can share with the Chinese, they haven't annoyed me yet. Other than taking up land I could otherwise have, but hey.

Gandhi is EVIL! EVIL! EVIL! Definently not like the real Gandhi. Destroy him with your samurai!

Can't you just build one city right next to the iron, and build a road to it? That's what i do. Line of cities across their borders :) fill in backspace later. I hate it how the AI backstabs you for no apparent reason. I had it just before. I'm starting to play the GOTM games, starting from the start, and the babylonians attacked me, breaking ROP in doing so....they were GRACIOUS!!!

So I took their two main cities and made peace. Then they went to war against my mates the zulu. The americans were stupid enough to ally with babylon against the zulu. So the babylonians are down to one city on another island that i can't get to yet (no boats), so it's one continent against another. i think that we'll win :) I am most powerful, easy on regent level.

The best policy is to kill asap the backstabbers, and I think for you this might be india :) Kill them with extreme prejudice!

Thanks. I was thinking this too. It was kinda funny the first time I saw it. I mean, Gandhi is going against his own words he is preaching.

I wonder who's foolish mistake it will be once I come with archers, or some other unit, and take his cities.

Well, it's decided. I'm taking out the Mahatma. He is smaller than China or Germany, and there is a lot of unclaimed land ahead of him to colonize afterwards. I've got two archers and a few warriors ready for the attack, but I need to beef up my defense and offense a bit. Shouldn't take too long. Then, when I get samurai, onto Germany, then maybe China.

Germany's gojng to be a different story altogether. They're bigger.

yes I enjoy when the AI sends in units all right next to my cities and then attacks without warning. I found this to happen when your military is rated as "weak". Then the other civs will pick on you. And usually when you do the same tactic your reputation takes a major hit. However I enjoy having their land at the expense of them being "Furious". :)

Well, it's on! I have taken one city from the Mahatma, then he sued for peace. I told him to put 100 gold on the table, then thought abut it, and decided against it. I still got iron to secure, 100 gold is not as valuable as iron. Maybe, after I make a clear path to the iron I'll reconsider.

I secured some spices, and am building a trade route to the Chinese and Germans. Unfortunately, the Germans already got spices, so I'm considering seeing if I can find another continent, another civilization and trade with them. I need gold for my archers and spearmen.

The war is going long and hard though. as I try to advance further, capturing a second city (I took the advice of someone else and split another's country into small slices to take one-by-one). They expanded a bit further up, so more cities to take.

Unfortunately, my governers seem to think I want horsemen, despite the fact that I NEED archers, because my spearmen couldn't keep up with horses :crazyeye: Silly governers. I'd ;die: them if I could. But I'm now a king, not a warlord. So that's out of the question.

I'm on a continent with two Peninsulas close together on the North continent. The peninsula to the right is uncolonized at the moment (I'm trying to change that), so is the left one, but India has control of that. Unless I get ships, load settlers into them and whip the ships to the tip of the left peninsula, but that'll be awhile.

Made with Gandhi, for now. The Germans are big now. And I seem to have set Gandhi back by a bit, he is still quite small.

Taking Madras, I moved my archers up to another city, taking it, then onto Karachi, where, with their lack of spearmen to guard them, got picked off. A few were remaining, and I managed to get one Karachi spearman down to one HP before he killed off my archers. Then, I sued for peace (I needed to re-group, my campaign had sorta come to a halt. Not that it ever was real fast to begin with), demanded Karachi in exchange for some gold and monarchy. So he took it the offer, and now I have Karachi, nice and already assimiliated into my iron fisted Shogunate (I am a monarch government ATM though).

I hope I can build with these iron resources a good enough team of samurai to take care of the weak Indian army, and I hope I do it before they get war elephants (I don't want this to get ugly). With cities on both peninsulas, I am planning on building a harbor in two coastal cities, and roads from the peninsula to the right to keep the iron shipments to go the the capital (Should the road from the unsecured peninsula be destroyed, conidering the Indians are near that one, and the road goes through their borders if they had any culture).

Then, I may conquer some German land, hope they don't get me as they are pretty big. But I am looking to push the indians off my continent before they become too big of a threat, like the Chinese and the Germans are (Although I may let the Chinese stay for awhile, if they remain good friends and keep demanding world map and 1 gold :crazyeye: )

Taking on the Babylonians and Zulus and Persians (One at a time, of course) is going to be a different story considering they're halfway across the world. Or maybe not, with the peninsulas where they're at.

Gandhi...

looks like Moby!

If Moby was a prune, he would look like Gandhi...

Next to Bismark and Lizzy, I find Gandhi the most annoying bully.
