Make post count optional?

I remember the hulabaloo when post count was taken off the visible-in-posts statistics, but at the same time there was a lot of support for taking away this pointless statistoid (points if you guess which side of the debate I was on ;)). Would it be possible to make it optional (like location)?

I would support it being optionally visible.

Post count makes it easier to tell who the expirienced people are. It's also easier to identify spamers. Ex: Join date, January 2003. Post Count 1. Obvious spam.

I could care less about my post count, I'd love to have it be optional. If you're judging someone based on how many posts they have on an internet forum, you're shallow.

A spammer who has only made one post since january 2003 obviously isn't very good at spamming :)

Think he meant it was a bot or something rather than your generic spammer with more than 15ppd?

That is what I meant.

Or perfection, but I'm being redundant. :p

I'm probably going to get in trouble for this. :hide:

Me too. And it automatically gets made permanently invisible when the poster gets their third infraction for spam.

Seriously, that would be a pretty good idea.

Oh God yes, I asked Whomp recently if I could have mine reset to the number where you can have an avatar, apparently only TF can do it. I'm seriously considering it, but if the post count was optional there'd be no need. :)

Or they could have said something, then forgotten all about their account and the forum. It's too difficult to speculate such things based on post count alone.

Huh? I don't judge myself to be awesome simply because of my postcount, and I had a considerable forum reputation long before my ascent to the pinnacle of postcount.

I suggest an additional statistic: the count of post made in the off topic forum.
Any n00b with even a mild interest in politics and religion will quickly have a booming post count from his participation in the OT forum, but this has absolutely no value for the rest of the site. (where we discuss civilization games and such)

Or maybe even better:

A post count per forum!

It works like this:
In the user profile, all statistics are visible.
But when viewing a thread, only 2 are visible, the total post count, just like it is already, plus the posts made in the forum the current thread belongs too.

Yeah, I just love statistics, but only if they are accurate and refined. A single total post count means something, but very little, with more data, we can make more conclusions.

So here is an other idea: A lurk counter!
This records how many times a forum member viewed a certain forum, or a thread in a forum. (yes, also per forum)

And a counter for how many new threads where started by a forum member. (also per forum)
