Map Grid: On or Off?

Do you play with the grid on or off?

  • Always ON. I can't tell where anything is, otherwise.

I think map grid are annoying when playing, its comes in handy when making maps though.

I do the exact opposite. i like the gridlines but take them off for a screenshot.

I almost feel like I'm spamming by totally agreeing with the two previous posters - even though the grid is not actually all that obtrusive.

on edit: whoops, that would be the first two posters now.

I leave it on all of the time. It helps me visualize where I will have city overlap etc... After a while you don't seem to notice it too much anyway.....probably comes from playing lots of board games (with squares) as a kid.. chess, checkers, parchesi and the like...

For me it is essential to plan moves. Helps me be sure I move at the right angle. I have lost too many moves by going one space to high or low.

I turn the grid on when planning future city locations, then just leave it on. I don't mind it and it makes it easier to make correct moves.

Grid is on only when I'm not sure about distances and directions (so very rarely;))

You have to think in discrete squares, whether you show the grid or not.

I turned it on and left it after sending my infantry into the weeds because of the loopy RR one too many times.

Ditto.

Always OFF...it distracts me

Always ON...in fact it bothers me that I have to keep turning it on every time I play because it always goes off.

I keep it mostly off. I like to view the terrain without those little grid lines distracting me. However, I do turn it on for the essential things, such as placing a city properly, especially in those places where terrain looks sorta confusing, such as near certain coastal spots.

Hi everybody...

I mostly leave it off. But sometimes when I'm trying to plan out a city placement or planning important unit movements or whatever I'll pop it on real quick.

When I was first starting it was always on to help me out. But once I started to get the game down some I found it was unnecessary for the most part.

BigD

On most the time.

What is mildly annoying is that this preference isn't stored in the ini file. Every time I load a game I have to turn it on, and with PBEM games thats up to 50 times a day.
