So I was trying to decide what game should I try post September patch and thought I'd check out what the new map types looked like before making a decision. Then I thought it would be nice if something like this already existed as a reference and while I found some examples on the web, they usually involved a single example. Hardly enough for map types with randomness that can lead to high variability from one playthrough to the next. I also didn't find anything for the new map types that came out with the September update so I decided I'd just make a post showing a few examples of each new type. I don't know if others will find it useful, but even if just for me, it would be nice to have this sitting somewhere I can refer to easily.

I allowed the game to run 3-4 turns to give all AI's a chance to settle before taking these screenshots, that way I also get an idea of the distribution of starting points across the maps. If the image sizes or format isn't clear, I can go back and update these images later while I'm still testing things out. Feedback welcome if you think this is something worthwhile and can be improved. So here are the results:

My own thoughts, I think Splintered Fractal and Tilted Axis are the most interesting just up front. Don't know if I'll change my mind after actually playing. Surprisingly, Splintered Fractals to me is often closer to what I imagined Continents and Islands would look like. Some of the Continents & Islands rolls are too similar to plain continents imo, but bottom left is close to perfection for what I'd be looking for.

Ooh, yeah, I like that Splintered Fractal. Gonna have to try that one...

Oh, and speaking of new maps. Did anyone else notice in the patch video that they listed an official map for East Asia, but it wasn't released with the update? Bummer, I was looking forward to it.
EDIT: it came with Khmer & Indonesia DLC which I don't have at time of this comment, Derp. :hammer2:

I used to play a lot of Earth map back in Civ5, but rarely do I ever play on Earth, true start location, real-life geographical map in Civ6 because the map size is fixed to standard, which I dislike. I enjoy playing on large and huge. Huge fan of the new Splintered and Continents&Islands maps

Some modders made larger sized maps of Earth in case you're interested.

Didn't that one come with Khmer/Indonesia?

Yes, please, I am interested. Would you mind sharing the names of those mods? I will be very grateful.
I haven't tried it myself but saw it in the steam workshop. If you just search for Earth within the Civ Vi workshop you'll see some mods. The one I saw was Cogitator's Earth Huge map. Hope it works for you!
