So I was trying to decide what game should I try post September patch and thought I'd check out what the new map types looked like before making a decision. Then I thought it would be nice if something like this already existed as a reference and while I found some examples on the web, they usually involved a single example. Hardly enough for map types with randomness that can lead to high variability from one playthrough to the next. I also didn't find anything for the new map types that came out with the September update so I decided I'd just make a post showing a few examples of each new type. I don't know if others will find it useful, but even if just for me, it would be nice to have this sitting somewhere I can refer to easily.
I allowed the game to run 3-4 turns to give all AI's a chance to settle before taking these screenshots, that way I also get an idea of the distribution of starting points across the maps. If the image sizes or format isn't clear, I can go back and update these images later while I'm still testing things out. Feedback welcome if you think this is something worthwhile and can be improved. So here are the results:
