It was definitely popped from a ruin. The worker appeared next to the hex where the ruin was. The ruin message was even something like '...wandering tribe...decide to join your civ as a worker".

Hmm, well my settler appeared next to my capitol and not near a ruin. Maybe settlers just work differently for some reason? But why? ok, "lost my mind" is now the leading theory.

Neat, what difficulty level were you playing, if you don't mind my asking?

ahhh.. interesting....it never occurred to me that it could be difficulty level :D

I think it was either Settler or Chieftan. I usually play King/Emp/Imm/Dei, but with new patch was starting to do some games for HOF (Duel maps).

Maybe its difficulty related ?

Two things I've noticed, and I don't think they were there pre-patch:

1) If you settle your city on a hill, you get an extra hammer in the city hex (I thought pre-patch it didn't matter where you settled, you only ever got one hammer in city hex)

2) I never saw this pre-patch, but a couple times now when I discover a ruin, I am getting a worker

Well the change to Windmills (+2 hammers) helps balance #1.

A hill city gets 2 production... but no bonus with Economics

A flatland city gets 1 production... but a +2 bonus (3) with Economics... and an Engineer slot.

.................. also on the Legalism....

1 Monument city
1 regular city
No Philosophy....
->
2 Monument cities and your "count" is now 3

What if you discover Philosophy before founding new cities?
Do you get a Free Temple in one or both of the cities?... (Taken against your "Count")

Settlers and workers appearing from ruins is related to difficulty. They will not appear in higher difficulty levels.

I got a worker at King level, from the Goody Hut vacinity. It didn't help me much as it was clear around the other side of the world, but interesting nonetheless. I never received a worker or settler in previous patches, and I almost always play King or the one right above that (can't remember the name ATM).

So the Honor branch gets nerfed to pieces and left to rot while the other two early-game branches get maxed out. It isn't fair. :(

the handicapinfo.xml shows that workers and settlers are supposed to pop from settler difficulty only. Must be a bug, post a save in the bug reports forum if you can please.

I'm not sure if I popped it from a ruin or not. All I know is it appeared by my capitol and not as a result of the social policy. I had one city at the time and had just bought a library so I could start on NC. Next turn I have a settler for some reason that I waited to plant until the NC was built, then took the free settler SP for another. When I get home I'll see if I still have an early save and if I can reproduce it.

It is positively baffling as to why they have not fixed the roads yet. It has to be a simple fix, all the forks are pointing the wrong way. I have yet to see ONE intersection that looks good. I simply can not play this game when I have to balance my aesthetic taste with the effectiveness of my empire.

I can live with that...but invisible roads need to be fixed...have to switch to strategy view just see where my roads are.

And i have a really sirus bug at loading game. I play in window and in loading game any inof from GaduGadu or any communicator popup crashing it big LOL

4th in soldiers on immortal with just 2 mohawk warriors?? That's downright impossible unless you're playing with only 3 opponents? Their starting units alone should be beating you out already.

I'd say it's far more likely that there's a bug in the ranking code.

no, remember they are counting promotions and gold now as well. so if he has lots of gold his military power would rank higher.

Invisible roads I can deal with, invisible rivers are intolerable!

lol ... The Total War games do a good job with rivers, they look very similar to civ 5...but they actually are very visible.

Sid should steal/hire some of those guys....they put 1000's of units on the board with no crashes.
