Heh I just won science victory without building any military unit throughout the whole game (Babylonia, king, no barbarism and corner spot). Nobody didnt even denounce me. Quite boring experience though.

Can you please post how exactly did you do it? Especially how exactly no one ever denounced you and as I suspect , no one ever declared war on you. That is a rare phenomenon.

I took screenshot after victory notification. Those two pikemens have been upgraded from starting units with ruins (classical era start). Every time someone asked me to form a dof or start a war against someone I said not intrested. Come to think about it Elizabeth might have denounced me once but cant remember for sure. At least there werent any wars.

Difficulty setting? This would be nearly unbelievable on Deity and positively expected on Settler, so that's pretty important information to have.

So I'm playing Civ 5 today post-patch when I order some chinese food.

I proceed to single-handedly invade and destroy each nation on the planet, destroying them one at a time.

Game ends, food comes, I open the fortune cookie, and no joke, it says "You will step on the soil of many countries."

Initial thoughts on the patch - I'm loving the applications in multiplayer. Liberty is absolutely incredible, as you might expect from policies that give free settlers and such. (Even crazier when I played a classical era start - second city turn 3!)

However, the most fun I had was in a few OCC games, where even legendary start can lead to horrifying mis-matches in initial locations. My start had no rivers and no coast, with tundra to most of the north - but luckily, I had myself 5 sheep tiles and 1 horse, which combined with stables allowed me to work my poor, enslaved sheepies to death building wonders and universities.

Anyways, haven't played enough to really explore all the effects this has had on the early-game (especially in deity) but I will say that the turn-times have seen significant, very noticeable improvement. I'm loving it, especially because I had absolutely no faith that would be the case when it was listed on the patch notes. :goodjob:

Why do we still have to watch the first 20 seconds of the intro? Why don't they allow us to skip past this in a new patch? This should be considered a bug.

Unfortunately, they hide the load time beneath that intro video - even if you disable it (which you can do by going through the XML - a forum/google search should tell you how) you're still stuck waiting for the duration staring at a totally black screen.

as if they cant load the game before the engine itself does. like civ4.

For whatever reason, they didn't do it that way. Maybe they could change it without a tremendous effort, maybe not - none of us know. The question we have to ask ourselves is, where would we rather have them devoting their programming resources - AI/diplomacy/other gameplay issues, or changing the way the game loads?

Finished my first game:

Prince
Russia
Diplomatic Victory
Continents / Standard size / All Standard
No Ruins (turn them off personally)

Everything else on as standard

Game went by with zero crashes and no load time longer than approx 7 seconds even with full map open.

Things I personally noted:

A.I behaved better. I only had a War with 1 nation the entire game (Greece). All the others remained on my side and constantly willing to trade. They even actively attacked Alexander when he declared war on me.

I accepted all DoF's and refused any offers of war. I denounced Alexander a few times and got praised for my denouncing of him.

Even when all the land was taken and boarders were clashing; everyone remained friendly (at worst guarded when my troops were moving about).

Will have to play more to see if this was just my settings or a particular game, or whether the changes have been as drastic as they seem at first glance.

Doesn't anyone of you find those new natural wonders a little displaced? I think atolls come from coral reefs that usually exist in the tropics/subtropics. To see them right next to ice covered peaks way up north seems a little odd....oh well..in Civ 5 nothing is unexpected anyway.

Dear all,

The biggest problem with Civ v was the stupid AI managing its troops. And so far i havent heard a thing about it.
It didnt build Tnks,Fighters, battleships, bombers(and if it did very very rear),and instead it builded too many AA guns.

So,from what you ve played so far, what it is the variety of units AI builds, and it did use them wiselly or less stupid than before?

your biggest problem.

mine, for example, was frequent crashes.

others complained about multiplayer

many don't like diplomacy
etc.

I must be very lucky I haven't had one crash, glitch or anything like that pre OR post patch. I have a great machine so maybe that is heading off the crashes before they begin?
